Am I the drama?

Am I the drama?
BEN POV

When the nurse finally left the room, I was in sheer shock. Nolan slumped on the floor. I kept replaying her words over and over in my head.

This didn’t make any sense.

I always took the pill when Nolan and I got intimate; how on earth did this happen?

I pulled my hair, hoping that the pain would remind me that this was just a mere dream and nothing more.

Nolan grabbed my hands, stopping me.

Our eyes locked in a frenzy.

He swallowed hard.

“Did you…” he trailed off, trying to find the right words. I stared at him in disbelief.

“Is it mine or my father’s?” he finally asked, his gaze fixed on my face.

“Nolan…” I warned.

He raised his hands in defense.

“Don’t look at me like the bad guy, Ben, because I’m just trying to understand the gravity of this situation. The last time you wanted me to take responsibility for a child I didn’t even father… that child was my sibling. Do you understand how fucked up that would have been?”

I remained silent, trying to calm myself.

“I didn’t sleep with Ambrose if that’s what you’re implying, and for the past eight years I’ve only been with one person, and that’s you, Nolan.”

He nodded quietly.

“So, what are we going to do?” he finally asked after the silence stretched.

For the first time in my life, I felt clueless. I felt like I had hit a brick wall and had no escape.

Tears filled my eyes, and I broke down crying, releasing all the pain I’d been holding since I came back from Italy, and Nolan held me through it all.

I sniffled softly.

I was still struggling to take care of Alessia, and now there was a baby in the mix; how on earth was I going to survive? My divorce with Nolan was getting finalized next week.

My job was in shambles, and I couldn’t bring myself to live off Clay and Marcelo, no matter how generous they were.

I felt guilty.

“Do you want to keep it?” he finally whispered when my sobs became less intense.

I didn’t know what to do, but would it be selfish if I didn’t want to?

Was it because Nolan was the father?

I wiped my tears away.

“I need a few days to think about it before I make any life-altering decisions… After all, this baby is innocent.”

He nodded quietly.

“Just keep me updated… what really happened at the office?”

I sighed deeply, leaning against the headboard and touching the bandage wrapped around my forehead.

I winced in pain.

“I guess you haven’t met Asher then… well, the lost son of the Rebels who hates my entire existence because my biological father kept him away since the day he was born. Now that he’s back in the picture, he feels like I robbed him of his childhood, so he’s bent on taking away everything that was given to me, including my identity.”

Nolan remained silent.

“I had to resign from my position as CEO because he wanted it, and besides that, everyone from the family has no objections. Now I’ve been demoted to a mere personal assistant, where I am constantly tormented for something I had no control over.”

Tears rolled down my cheeks.

I just had to endure the silence and lower my head.

“No, that’s so unfair, Ben. You have shares in that company, so Asher can’t treat you that way. You may not be the CEO of New Way Group anymore, but you have a say because my father trusted you when he left those shares in your name. So stand up for yourself and don’t let anyone walk over the strong woman you are.”

He grasped my hand.

“Look at me… I know that things are different and you have changed because this isn’t just about you anymore. I’ve got a daughter to worry about. But at the company, I want you to be the Benedykta Rebel they all feared.”

I nodded quietly.

“I thought you never wanted anything to do with me, so why are you helping me?” I asked curiously.

He shrugged carelessly.

“You’re right; I made up my mind when you called me a week ago, but despite all that, a part of me will always care about you, and I always want to be a part of Alessia’s life.”

I gave him a small smile.

“Thank you…”

He gave my shoulder a gentle squeeze.

“Everything will be alright. Do you need me to call anyone? Maybe your mother?” he pressed.

I shook my head negatively.

“No, I don’t want to bother anyone, and I feel fine. I’ll just go back to the office and get my things and call it a day.”

He looked concerned.

“I can drop you off home, Ben; it’s not a big deal.”

I declined politely.

The last thing I wanted to do was give him false hope. When he finally left, I changed back into my clothes and got myself discharged without a fuss.

I had forgotten who I was.

Benedykta Rebel. I was feared and envied for a reason, and I was going to give Asher a taste of his own medicine.

An hour later, I made it to New Way Group, feeling more determined than ever, and I wasn’t going to let anyone dim my light.

I walked in, and silence ensued.

The only sound in the room was the clicking of my heels that echoed like guns from a war.

I strolled in like I owned the damn place, went to my desk, and began packing my things.

I could hear hushed whispers.

“You’re really an attention seeker, huh?”

I spun around and found Asher watching me with a glare in his eyes.

He crossed his arms over his chest.

I smirked.

“After that little stunt you pulled in the conference room, I’ve decided to take action against you, and I’m suing your ass,” I muttered quietly.

His eyes widened in shock.

“You can’t sue me!” he yelled angrily.

“My lawyers will pay you a visit shortly, and by the way, I am not your personal slave nor assistant; I quit.”

He burst out laughing.

“I own you, Benedykta; you can’t leave until I say so,” he warned.

I walked towards him, standing an inch taller than him thanks to my stilettos.

“I own 50% of the shares in this company. I might not be the CEO, but I’ll work as a partner here, and I will have my own fucking office, and there’s nothing you can do about it.”

I carried my things and walked past him, heading outside.

A smile curved my lips.

Benedykta Rebel was back in the building, thanks to a wake-up call from Nolan.
