Shattered Promises

Orion’s point of view:

My fragment of light flickering faintly hardly lit the anarchy all around me. I was unable to stop though. Not at this time. Not when I knew she was sliding farther away.

"Orion... " Her voice arrived, weak and quivering like a thread barely holding her to this planet. "I'm here...,"Though it was temporary, relief came flooding through me. "Don't stop talking!” I cried, staggered forward as the darkness surged. I am here to meet you. Just hold on!She said, her words starting with tiredness: "I'm trying.

"Still, it's quite chilly. How much more can I fight? I'm not sure.

"You don't have to fight alone!," I snapped, my hold on the shard tightening. Elena, we have always been more powerful together. Hold onto it. Not now.Suddenly showing up between us were the strangers, their hollow eyes shining.

Their speech teemed with hate, their smile more precise than that of a knife. Still grasping hope, Orion, they scoffed. You're squandering your vitality. She is already mine.

"Get out of my way!" I cried and pushed the shard ahead. Its light blazed, briefly driving the shadows back, but the stranger did not withdraw. Rather, they chuckled, the sound frigid and contemptuous. She's fading, they whispered, their voices a bitter whisper. You can see it, cannot you? Orion, her light is losing strength.

And yours will shortly as well."Elena, pay no attention to them!" Ignoring the freezing tendrils snatching at my legs, I yelled. You do not belong to them. You are my. Hear me.Her soft voice emerged amid the emptiness's scream.

"I hear you... but, Orion... it's pulling so hard.."Then grab onto me! I yelled, charging ahead against the gloom. Her glow was faint but still visible to me right now. "Elena, I refuse to let this place define you. I promise it.

The ground under us split fiercely, sending stone fragments down into the valley. Shadows attacked with terrible speed. I stammered; my shard almost dropped from my hand. She yelled, grasping for me as the abyss tore between us. "Don't allow yourself to let go!""I won't," I yelled and grabbed her hand just as the ground collapsed under her.

My hold tightened, yet the void's inexorable might drove her farther into the night. The stranger remarked, their smile broadening as they approached: "You cannot save her."

"You really can hardly save yourself. I'll save her," I said, my voice shaking with rage. "no matter what it takes. Elena, hold on!," I cried, my arm stinging from clinging to her. "We have not yet finished. Hear me, then? She answered, her voice shaking with emotion: "I hear you.

"But Orion, should you be unable, "Don't end that sentence!" With my heart thumping, I grabbed it. "I am not allowing you to leave. You never have to give up.The emptiness screamed louder, its shadows lashing forth once again.

This time the effect knocked us both back, and her hand slid from mine. I yelled, my heart breaking as she sank farther down the slope.

"Elena!!" I yelled, sprinting after her, my shard blazing as I drove ahead. I continued even though the darkness attacked me and their icy hold threatened to drag me beneath. Unable.

Her voice rang weakly in the suffocating silence, trembling but loaded with love: "Orion... don't stop." I will return to you. Her words stayed with me, the only hope flickering through the emptiness closing in. The nothingness jumped fiercely, the shadows falling like unrelenting waves.

The tension caused my fingertips to burn as they hung to the final shard of light. My body hurts. Every stride I made toward Elena seemed like a fight I was meant to lose, yet I kept going."Elena!." My voice rough with desperation, I yelled into the never-ending gloom.

"Where are you"? Respond to me!Her voice came, weak and shaking, like a thin thread linking her to me here. "Orion, I'm sliding...""No!!" I cried, my chest constricting with anxiety.

Once more, the ground fractured underfoot, bits falling into the chasm below. You're not sliding! I'm here, Elena. merely hang on.Suddenly between us, the intruder materialized in a dark and twisted form. Their lifeless eyes shining with wicked glee, they slanted their heads. Still trying, Orion snarled, their voice icy and mocking.

"How pathetic." She is already mine."She's not yours!," I cried, shard in hand, lunging forward. Its light blazed, pushing them back, but their twisted laughter rang about me.Their smiles were harsh and evil, they said, "You cannot stop this." The vacuum always grabs what it wants.

And it seeks her as well." Get out of my way!" I hissed and passed by them. My gaze fixed on Elena's form, dim and flickering far away. "Elena!" I almost got there. Hold on!She said, "I'm trying," her voice breaking with passion.

Still, Orion, it's dragging rather heavily. I'm not sure whether I can. You are able!" I interrupted, my voice quivering but firm. You have more strength than this. more powerful than they are. Simply say I trust you.Tears flashing in her eyes, she whispered, "I trust you."

But... should you find yourself unable, "don't!" With my heart thumping, I snapped. "Don't even consider thinking like that. I refuse to let you go. Hear me, please? The nothingness screamed louder, its shadows wild intensity. The power crashed into us, and I staggered as her light flicked perilously.

She shouted, grasping for me as the ground under her broke totally. I moved forward to seize her hand just as she started to fall. Her fingers slid from mine, though, as the shadows rose once again.

Her voice floated weakly across the choking emptiness: "Orion... I'll track you. Before the darkness enveloped her totally, it was the last thing I heard; it left me alone with the unrelenting roar of the abyss.

"Elena," Orion's voice raw and quivering, broke through the stifling emptiness. Thick and stifling, the shadows pushed in all around me, their frigid tendrils tightening with every second. My hand held a little flutter of light, a flimsy protection from the unrelenting gloom.
