Chapter 140: A Life in Motion

Chapter 140: A Life in Motion
Sophia’s POV

Healing was a slow process.

Frustrating. Exhausting. Infuriatingly slow.

But I wasn’t doing it alone.

Every time I turned around, Travis was there.

Every time I stumbled, his hands caught me before I could fall.

Every time I got too tired, too frustrated, too goddamn stubborn for my own good—

He reminded me why I had to keep going.

And somehow, in between all of that, life just… kept happening.

Because fuck—

Everyone around me was a goddamn mess.

And apparently, I was the only one who noticed.

"You know," Travis mused, stretching lazily on the couch, "once you’re back on your feet, we’re going to have a wedding to plan."

I paused, the water bottle in my hand halfway to my mouth.

"Excuse me?"

He arched a brow, completely unbothered. "You heard me, sweetheart."

"Are you just assuming I’m still marrying you?"

"Sweetheart," he smirked, reaching for my hand, turning it so the ring caught the light, "I never assume. I just know."

I rolled my eyes but couldn’t stop the way my chest tightened at his words.

It was that simple for him.

He had no doubt.

No hesitation.

Even now, with my body still weak, my steps still unsteady, my mind still trying to convince me that maybe this was all too much—

Travis was already looking forward.

Already counting down to forever.

Maybe I was too.

Meanwhile, the absolute disaster that was Leah and Adam continued to unfold.

I was loving every second of it.

"Do you two ever shut up?" Claire groaned, tossing a pillow at them as they bickered on the other side of the room.

"She started it," Adam muttered, crossing his arms.

"You’re an insufferable piece of—"

"Leah," I interrupted dryly, "are you sure you’re actually dating? Because this sounds exactly like before, except now Adam stares at your ass every time you turn around."

Leah froze, eyes narrowing. "He does what now?"

Adam didn’t even try to deny it. "Not my fault you wear tight pants."

Leah grabbed the nearest object—which happened to be her sling—and smacked him with it.

"You’re impossible."

"And you’re hot when you’re angry."

"Oh my god," Claire groaned. "Just go make out somewhere else."

"Gladly," Adam smirked, grabbing Leah by the waist and hauling her over his shoulder.

Leah shouted profanities the entire way out of the room.

I had never seen her happier.

Then there was Luke and Claire.

Which was an entirely different brand of chaos.

Because Luke?

Luke had gone from broody and distant to completely, unapologetically obsessed with Claire.

And Claire?

Claire had no idea what to do with that.

"You know he watches you every time you walk away, right?" I asked, sipping my tea as we sat on the back porch.

Claire flushed, shifting uncomfortably. "Luke watches everyone."

"No, sweetheart," I smirked, "he watches you. There’s a difference."

"I don’t know what you’re talking about," she muttered, but the blush on her cheeks told a different story.

That just made me even more sure.

Because for someone who had spent years convinced Luke saw her as a kid—

She was starting to realize just how wrong she had been.

Through it all, Travis was there.

Every morning, he woke up before me, making sure I had my coffee the way I liked it.

Every night, he was the last person I saw before sleep pulled me under, his arms warm, solid, keeping me anchored.

Every therapy session, every ache, every moment of frustration—

He was there.

Not pushing me too hard, not pitying me, not treating me like I was fragile.

Just supporting me.

I was starting to believe that maybe, just maybe—

I could actually do this.

The night before I was set to move back home, I sat beside him on the porch, the sky dark, clear, quiet.

He didn’t say anything at first.

Just reached over, intertwining his fingers with mine, his thumb brushing over my knuckles.

"You ready for tomorrow, sweetheart?"

I exhaled slowly.

"I think so."

He studied me, his gaze heavy, steady. "Then I’m ready too."

That was all I needed to hear.
