Chapter 139: Setting the Stage for Chaos
Chapter 139: Setting the Stage for Chaos
Sophia’s POV
Luke and Claire were handled.
That was the easy part.
Because really—
Even a blind man could have seen the tension between them.
But Leah and Adam?
That was an entirely different battlefield.
Because those two?
They were so far in denial that they’d rather drown in it than admit what was obvious to everyone else.
They lived off fighting.
Thrived on it.
And the only way to get them to finally stop pretending they weren’t in love?
They needed one final explosion.
A fight so big, so intense, that neither of them could ignore what was staring them in the face anymore.
I was more than happy to light the match.
The opportunity presented itself later that afternoon, when everyone was lazing around in the living room, the air casual, easy.
Except—
Leah and Adam hadn’t bickered in hours.
That was unnatural.
They were both tense, sitting across from each other, exchanging quick glances that neither of them seemed to realize they were doing.
Like they were waiting for something.
Like they were itching to start something but didn’t know how.
So then—
I’d start it for them.
"Hey, Leah," I called casually, leaning back in my seat. "Do you remember that one guy from the firm who asked you out a while back? What was his name?"
Leah blinked, frowning. "Why?"
"Just curious," I shrugged. "You never gave him a chance. I always wondered why."
"Because he was an idiot," she scoffed. "And I don’t date idiots."
"That’s rich," Adam muttered.
Leah whipped her head toward him, narrowing her eyes. "What the hell is that supposed to mean?"
Adam grinned, stretching his arms lazily behind his head. "Just saying—your standards are questionable at best."
Oh, fuck yes.
We were in business.
"Excuse me?" Leah’s voice dropped dangerously low, and I had to bite my lip to keep from smirking.
"I just mean—" Adam smirked, "you’re the same woman who thought pineapple on pizza was a good idea, so clearly, you make terrible choices."
"First of all," Leah snapped, sitting up straighter, "pineapple on pizza is superior."
"Only to people who hate themselves."
"Oh, fuck you, Adam!"
"Make me, Leah!"
Oh, fuck—
That was the wrong thing to say.
Because Leah’s entire body tensed, her fists clenching like she was about to launch herself across the room.
And Jesus—
Adam looked like he wanted her to.
"You are the most arrogant, insufferable, egotistical asshole I have ever met!" Leah snapped.
"And you are the most stubborn, reckless, frustrating woman I have ever known!" Adam shot back.
They were in each other’s faces now, voices rising, everyone else in the room dead silent, watching.
"You make me crazy!" Leah yelled, shoving at his chest.
"Good!" Adam roared. "Because you drive me fucking insane, Leah!"
That was it.
That was the moment.
Because in the blink of an eye—
Adam grabbed her, yanking her against him, crashing his mouth to hers in a way that was completely and utterly inevitable.
And holy fuck—
It was glorious.
Leah froze for half a second.
Then?
She kissed him back just as hard, her hands fisting into his shirt, her entire body melting against his.
And damn—
I think Adam actually groaned.
Travis let out a low whistle from beside me, shaking his head. "That took way too long."
"No kidding," Luke muttered, looking entirely unsurprised.
Claire?
She just smirked, raising her cup. "I fucking knew it."
After a solid thirty seconds of them making out like the world was ending, Leah finally shoved him away, her breathing ragged.
"I hate you," she panted.
"Good," Adam smirked. "Because I fucking love you, Leah."
Silence.
Pure, unfiltered shock on her face.
Even Adam looked like he couldn’t believe he’d just said it.
But there it was.
The truth.
Out in the open.
Leah swallowed hard, her chest rising and falling too fast.
Then—
"You’re a fucking idiot."
And just like that—
She yanked him back in for another kiss.
I sat back, completely and utterly satisfied with myself.
That had gone exactly as planned.
Travis leaned closer, murmuring against my ear. "Remind me to never piss you off, sweetheart."
I smirked, eyes still locked on the disaster I had just orchestrated.
"Oh, baby," I murmured. "You should’ve already known that."
When I wanted something to happen?
I made it happen.
And now?
Now my two biggest projects were finally fucking complete.
