Chapter 217
Chapter 217
At first, Delilah didn't think much of it and had no idea what Emily meant by that.
That is, until wave after wave of people showed up downstairs, blocking the police station entrance completely!
"We're here to report a crime. I've been scammed, defrauded of over a million dollars!"
"Me too. My whole family is counting on me for support, damn it. That church forced me to sign a voluntary donation agreement and made me give away all my assets."
"Please, I'm begging you, help me."
People were crying and wailing, their faces filled with despair.
Emily stood upstairs, looking down at all these people below.
Her heart ached as if being cut by a knife, but she was at a complete loss, with no idea what to do.
William said he couldn't track down Everett or the priest at all.
"I think there's definitely something fishy here. Just a while ago Everett was going to donate all his property, and now suddenly he's run off with the money. It happened too fast."
She bit her lip, standing before everyone, pointing at the blackboard behind her and speaking calmly.
William turned around to glance at the photos on her screen, with a picture of a little boy in the corner.
Could it be that the Light Feather Church incident was connected to the Bronte case?
"I found it. Everett recently threw all his assets into the stock market and got wiped out by short sellers."
Daniel rushed through the door, holding an iPad with evidence he'd collected online.
It was all about Everett's failed investments and his recent appearances at casinos in Avalonia, which only strengthened Emily's suspicions.
Was it possible that from the very beginning, this Light Feather Church was just a scam? That there were no real philanthropists, just these rich guys who lost money and wanted to scam it back from poor people?
Like how he donated money before, making a big show on the streets about doing good deeds and being charitable, handing out all that money to people.
Basically, it was all just for show.
Emily clenched her fists in anger, "That Everett, I'm going to catch him and bring him to justice!"
"Never mind that now, an old lady downstairs just passed out!"
A man's voice came from nearby.
Joshua rushed in hurriedly, his face anxious, frowning as he spoke, "The old lady got too worked up and fainted!"
"What?"
Hearing this, Emily immediately rushed out the door and went downstairs.
The crowd had gathered around an elderly woman with white hair.
"Someone help! Look at this, the damn Light Feather Church is killing people! If it wasn't for Light Feather Church, our families wouldn't be destroyed."
"Officer, you have to help us, help us get our money back."
The crowd was chaotic, everyone talking at once.
In their anxious expressions, there was more worry about their stolen money than genuine concern for the old woman.
"Everyone step back, clear the area, make sure the patient can breathe properly right now."
Emily dispersed the crowd, pushing away the people surrounding the old lady, then slowly bent down.
Fortunately, the police station had heart rate monitors and such equipment that she carried with her, though she rarely used them.
After all, they usually dealt with major criminal cases, so there were few opportunities to use this equipment.
After a quick examination, Emily quickly called for a car, "We can't wait for an ambulance now. Take the old lady to the hospital and give her this medicine."
Oscar came anxiously to Emily's side, looking her up and down carefully, "How are you, Emily? Are you okay?"
Emily immediately pushed Oscar away, "Of course I'm fine."
"Good. I just found Everett's IP address online. He's still in Avalonia, he never left."
Oscar opened his phone and showed Emily a string of numbers and symbols.
Emily couldn't understand these special codes at all. She frowned, "Are you sure?"
"I'm certain. I've locked onto his IP. He's been in Avalonia for the past ten days or so. Also, I suspect this woman has a close relationship with Everett too."
Oscar pointed to a heavily made-up woman on social media, dressed sexy and alluring, twisting her snake-like slender waist.
This type of woman was clearly Everett's type.
"I'll report this to Jonathan and Captain Brown."
Emily turned and walked quickly toward William.
As soon as she made her suggestion, everyone objected.
Daniel looked at Emily seriously, "This could be big or small. If we rashly go to Avalonia, we might cause unnecessary trouble."
"But Oscar said his IP address hasn't changed for over ten days, so he must be in Avalonia."
Emily's tone was certain.
Delilah looked around worriedly, "But we need special authorization. Even if we go to Avalonia, we won't be able to arrest him."
Oscar suddenly stood up, looking at everyone in shock, "I've got it! Everett's mistress gave birth to his son a couple days ago. I've already found out!"
"His mistress?"
Emily looked at the information in front of her, confused, not understanding the logic behind Oscar's words.
If Everett really had a mistress, why didn't they know about it?
There was no record of any woman being closely involved with Everett, and they had no idea when he had a son.
"Here's the thing. This woman's IP appeared at the villa where Everett lived for a full six months. Two months after she left, she went to the hospital for prenatal checkups. I saw on her social media that she often shows off her wealth. In her latest video, she says her husband bought her this limited edition crocodile leather bag from abroad."
Oscar pushed up his gold-rimmed glasses, took a deep breath, and continued, "If I'm right, this bag was a gift from Everett. This bag was just released yesterday, so for her to get it, it must have been before the official release. The only possibility is that it's a special edition given to VIPs by the casino!"
