Chapter 263 Cat and Mouse 19

Chapter 263 Cat and Mouse 19
They left just before six, well some of them did anyway. It had been decided , against my wishes, that there would always be a Reaper around until they knew I was safe. I had argued, they had won.

The only thing that they had agreed on was that none of them would wear their cut here. They were under cover.

The thought made me roll my eyes. Like they could be anything but what they were.

And surprise surprise Psych had been given the first watch. I wasn’t sure how he had managed it but he was sitting in the corner , watching me over his crab as I moved around the room and greeted customers.

Deep down I knew it made sense. He was a newcomer here. If Stella had been watching me, odds were she wouldn’t recognise him

Unless she had really been watching me of course because if she had eyes on me she would know he had been sharing my bed the last few nights

Without thinking, I paused. Remembering the three men and the footsteps they had left in this very room. They hadn’t taken anything, so why had they been here? To scare me? To scope out the place.

It was too big a coincidence that she had turned up in my life the morning afterward.

“Cat?”

I almost jumped out of my skin. Whirling around to find my barmaid watching me. “Yeah.”

“Guy in the corner is the same one who tried it on with me the other day.” She grimaced. “I just thought you should know.”

She sounded nervous, schooling my face into a frown I turned towards where she was pointing even though I knew exactly who she was talking about. Sighing I watched him take a sip of his drink. His throat moving as he swallowed.

God why was he so goddamn hot?

“I’ll deal with it. Make sure he doesn’t bother you.” I promised. And at least this was a promise I could keep.

He wasn’t here to try it on with anyone but me. I hoped anyway.

He lifted his head as I approached. A smile fluttering at the corners of his lips.

“You are making my staff uncomfortable.” I said a little too loudly so the people at the table next door could hear. Yet another fake conversation. By the time this was all over, I was going to be a pro.

“I’m sorry.” He said softly. And I could tell by the look on his face that the apology was aimed at me. “I didn’t mean to make anyone uncomfortable. I’ll be heading out soon, is there-“

He wanted to know where he was meant to sleep tonight. And that was the question wasn’t it.

Only I already knew the answer. Digging into my Jean pocket I pulled out my key and sneakily slipped it across the table. Keeping my hand over it like I was sliding him the bill.

The tips of his fingers brushed against mine. “You ok?”

He whispered. “Are we ok?”

I didn’t have an answer to that one, so I just nodded and stepped away. “Thank you.” I sing songed like he was paying the bill. “Come back soon.”

His chuckle followed me, brushing against my spine like he was rubbing his fingers down it.

It took everything I had not to turn and smile at him. Actually it took everything I had not to turn around, grab him by the back of his neck and kiss him.

By the time I had reached the bar and finally turned he had left his table and was heading outside. A few moments later I heard the roar of his bike as he rode away. I had no clue where he was going to stash his bike but I knew that by the time I finished here tonight, he would be waiting upstairs for me.

It sent a flicker of pleasure through me. Usually I didn’t like going up to bed alone, no matter how exhausted I was. Climbing into a cold lonely bed wasn’t exactly appealing. Now I had-

I bit my lip. I didn’t have anything. I had to stop thinking like this was the start of something magical. It wasn’t even the start of something short term. It was just a now thing.

“That guy likes you.”

My head snapped up. “Who?” I asked the barmaid. My eyebrows arched upwards.

“Guy with the long hair. All night he’s had his eyes on your ass. I mean so has every other guy but he was pretty intense. I think he wanted to give you his number.”

I couldn’t help it I laughed. Psych had already had more than my number. Not that I could tell her or anyone else that.

“He’s not my type.”

She looked at me like I was crazy. “He’s everyone’s type.” She stated matter of factly.

“Then why did you reject him the other night? If you think he’s so hot.”

Too late I realised how angry I sounded.

“I have a man plus.” She wrinkled up her nose. “He’s a biker isn’t he? I don’t want any old biker.”

I snorted a laugh. psych was twenty eight. He wasn’t an old biker.

“Anyway-“ her mouth fell open in an O and without warning she rushed around the bar and almost ran towards the door. Pulling it open for whoever was trying to get through.

“Here let me get this for you?”

Turning slowly, I felt my mouth fell open as a woman in a wheelchair pushed herself inside.

Stella.

The woman from the grocery store froze when she saw me. Her face was a well practised mask of shock.

“You.” She whispered. “It is you isn’t it? From earlier? Do you work here?”

Taking a deep breath I approached. “Yeah it’s me, great to see you again. Do you want a table inside or outside?”

“Outside if it’s not too much trouble?” She eyed the tightly packed tables and her face fell and if I didn’t know who she was then I would have fallen for it.

“That’s fine.”

“Honestly though. I didn’t know you worked here. I don’t want you to think I am stalking you or anything.” She giggled nervously as I made a path for her.

I rolled my lips under my teeth. Stalking me was exactly what she was doing, there was no doubt about that now.

“It’s a small world, isn’t it?” I asked, matching her tone of over the top cheerfulness.

“So have you worked here-“

I pushed open both glass doors to the decking. “I own the place.” I said, stepping back. “My name’s Cat.”

She flicked her eyes up to me. “I’m Stacy.” She beamed.

Fucking liar. It didn’t matter now how much I didn’t want to be involved with The Lost Reapers mess, I was in it.

“Nice to meet you, I’ll be right back with your water and menus.” Turning I hurried away to text the club.
