Chapter 30

(Trigger warning).

KLAUS.

The Silver Moon Pack. Alpha Lorenzo's home. My brother's precious abode.

My eyes roamed the decor of the guest room I had chosen, the odd colors making my head spin. Trust Enzo with his impeccable taste.

It felt just like yesterday I was last here. The memories of the past, caused a wave of different emotions to surge through me.

Yeah, I reckon It was highly likely for old wounds to be reopened, but I knew what I was signing up for, the moment I decided to set foot on his Pack again. Well, technically, My Pack.

Feeling up to a drink, I made my way out of the room. I heard a female voice in the living room, my curiosity piqued. But as I got there, I caught sight of a tall blonde beautiful lady, on her cell. She seemed to be in a restless state as she paced around the room.

"I'll be there in a jiffy," I heard her say, and then she sauntered out through the door.

That must be the bride-to-be, I thought, a smile forming on my lips. Enzo does have a good taste of women.

My feet moved forward, suddenly curious, but then I felt my phone vibrate in my pants.

"Klaus speaking."

"Hey, man. How's it going?" It was Logan, my best pal.

"Oh, hey Logan. What's up?"

Logan was the Beta of the Blood Moon Pack where I grew up. He was my best pal. Just like every other person in the Blood Moon Pack and Silver Moon Pack, we all shared an animosity that had been on the ground ever since our parent's reign.

Worse was when Lorenzo decided to take matters into his own hands, causing a feud, which led to the death of the previous Beta.

Logan chuckled, "I am pretty sure it was one hell of a reunion. Goddess, I wish I was there, to see the look on his face."

"Well...I must say. It was a sight to behold. You know..."

A loud cling sound caught my attention, and my eyes immediately went to the door, which opened slowly.

I could hear Logan speaking into the phone, but my attention was far from it.

From where I stood, directly in the hall facing the living room, I caught sight of a dark-haired girl in a hospital gown, walking into the house in a dazed state.

What caught my attention, however, was the fact that she was in a hospital gown and...her eyes which swept across the living room for a moment. Her eyes...

"Klaus...are you there?"

"Uhm...just a sec Logan. I'll call you back."

I watched her quietly, as she made her way to the right, like she knew where she was headed.

A frown formed its way on my face. It couldn't be, right? No. I shook my head, disregarding all thoughts that might lead to 'her'.

But as much as I wanted to ignore it, I couldn't. And before I knew it, my feet were moving towards the direction she had taken.

Great. Another endless hall. She was nowhere to be found. There were doors at every end, and I wondered which one she'd gone in. It didn't help that the whole house was as quiet as a fucking graveyard.

Aren't there supposed to be maids and butlers around?

Not until my eyes caught a glimpse of a door, left slightly ajar at the far end of the hall, and I quickly made my way towards it.

The kitchen, I could tell. Judging from the aroma of freshly cooked meal. But who might be doing the cooking, when no one was in plain sight?

I rested a hand on the doorknob, slightly pushing the door open. And there, I saw her.

The girl in the hospital gown.

Only this time, her back was to me, and...in her hands was a glittering object.

It took me a while to fathom what was happening. She had a knife in her hands, up in the air, about to...

"No!" The word was out of my mouth before I could realize it, and with a speed, I knew I possessed, I ran toward her, pulling her back with one arm and grabbing a hold of her hand with the other.

I was a little late though, as she had already stabbed...only that the sharp edge of the knife pierced through my wrist.

"What the... Are you trying to kill yourself?" I demanded as I pulled away slowly, to take a look at her.

Thankfully, she wasn't hurt in any way. Her eyes were wide as they stared up at me. And I froze at the spot.

"Amber?"

She blinked, the look on her face confused for a moment, and then she was furious, pulling herself away from my hold angrily.

My arms slacked on her. I was momentarily stunned. Her eyes, as captivating as they were, looked so much like Amber's. My mate's. Only that she was regrettably dead, a long time ago.

I would have mistaken this strange lady for her if it wasn't for her other features which distinguished them from each other.

Amber's eyes were my favorite feature of hers. We didn't spend much time together, but I could recognize them anywhere.

I shook my head, willing the memories of her, out of my head, as I'd done for over five years now. The ordeals, pain, hurt, and terror associated with her death were something I didn't wanna reveal.

I could be ruthless and unforgivable, but I would never go as far as inflicting on anyone what was inflicted on her. She doesn't deserve any of it.

My eyes glazed over as the memories of the painful day came flooding back...

***

"Please, Amber. Just for today. I promise it won't be long." We were sitting on a rock, at the far end of the woods in the Silver Moon Pack.

Amber, my mate sat before me, her eyes distant, and fidgety. It was the day I had planned on introducing her to my parents, the Alpha and Luna of the Blood Moon Pack.

It was the day of my stepbrother, Dominic's coronation, and I had planned on introducing Amber to them, that very day......
