Chapter 412 Special
Chapter 412 Special
Cordelia blinked, clearly shocked. “I… that is such a great honor, being among the people that make such important decisions for the empire. I do not know if I can handle that much responsibility.”
“You already do. You advise me on what to do, you are my friend, it is not much different. Except you will be sitting next to the Oracle and be amongst more experienced women. But you are well versed in court politics and I would not suggest you if I did not believe in you,” Audrey placed her hand on Cordelia’s. “You do not need to give me an answer immediately. You can think about it and let me know. Okay?”
Cordelia nodded, looking unsure but touched. “Okay. Now, tell me all about Tia and Am.”
Audrey’s whole face lit up. “Tia has the most gorgeous golden brown hair, just like Darius, and Am, he barely has a full head of hair yet but it’s black just like mine. They are both perfect.”
“Being a mother suits you, Audrey. Any word on Lord Anthony?”
Audrey’s face dropped. “Nothing yet. From what Astrid said, he was colluding with her, that means he is dangerous and we need to get him soon.”
“What did he stand to gain from partnering with Astrid?” Cordelia frowned.
“Astrid said he was doing it to have me, but it does not make sense. Astrid was his mate.”
Cordelia fell silent. From the look on her face Audrey could tell that she was holding herself back from saying something.
“Cordelia, say it,” Audrey urged.
“You would not have noticed because you were heartbroken at the time. But it was obvious to anyone who could see Lord Anthony. He always had his eyes on you. He always looked at you with so much longing it was unnerving.”
Audrey blinked, gazing away. Was it truly so obvious? “I had no idea.”
“I figured. I did not wish to say anything so as not to make you uncomfortable, seeing as you were working with him on the group home,” Cordelia gazed sympathetically at Audrey.
“No one outside the palace has heard about the hunt for Lord Anthony nor what he has been accused of. I am afraid if the nobles do it will negatively affect the group home and discourage the nobles from supporting it.” A knot had formed in Audrey’s throat.
“We will continue to keep it safe until we can find him,” Cordelia tried to reassure Audrey.
Audrey stared at the window, the sun beaming through. Winter had ended, but beyond the rays Lord Anthony was somewhere, hiding, with powers no one could have ever imagined.
After some more time with Cordelia, Audrey decided it was time to feed her babies and put them to sleep early, so her and Darius would not be disturbed. In all honesty Audrey was a little scared about the outcome of the marking. Her hands shook slightly as she stared down at them. Was it true? Could she have an essence of the goddess?
Her dreams and visions were true, all along Darius’s mother was the one showing her glimpses of his past and the future as a way to help her.
Since her first day at the Silver Moon Pack, Audrey had never felt special. There was nothing extraordinary about her. And now, she finds that she has actually been special all along? Sent to stop the doom that was coming.
It explained why she was the only one there in the Bloodmoon Highlands, surrounded by so many dead bodies, why she never could find Darius. She was the one to stop it. But how? All her questions would be answered tonight.
Audrey took in deep breaths, trying to quiet her thoughts as she made her way to her old chambers. The guard opened the door for her. She walked in, seeing Faye and Ruby rocking her babies in their arms. She smiled at the sight, her heart easing a bit.
“How are my darlings?”
Faye walked up to Audrey, placing Am into her arms. Audrey beamed. “Are you hungry, my heart?”
Audrey made her way to the bed, laid Am down and stood for Faye to help loosen her dress and corset, leaving her in her chemise. She sat down, taking Am into her arms once more.
She loosened the ribbon on her neck and pulled out her breast to begin feeding Am.
“How was it, Audrey?” Faye asked, concerned.
“It was not easy. After offering Constantine a deal, he confessed to everything. We need more members for the council of elders,” Audrey sighed, caressing Am’s forehead with the pad of her thumb. “I think Cordelia would be perfect for the seat. But she is reluctant.”
“The Marchioness would be perfect. You trust her not to be power hungry, she would be fair and just,” Ruby chimed in.
Audrey nodded. “I told her to take her time to decide. It would be really great to have her on the council.”
Audrey picked up Am and gave him to Faye so she could burp him. Ruby walked over and placed Tia in her arms for her own feeding. “Darius has decided to mark me. Tonight.”
Faye and Ruby smiled, knowing what it meant. “I am so happy for you, Audrey,” Ruby gushed.
Audrey tried to smile but failed. She looked down at Tia suckling on her nipple, a satisfied look on her face.
Faye placed her hand on Audrey’s shoulder. “Do not worry Audrey. This will strengthen your bond. It means that the king is ready to trust you with his past.”
“I do not know what to expect, or how I will feel,” Audrey spoke honestly.
“Trust that your husband will keep you safe.”
“We will need privacy. No guards or maids in the wing, just you and Ruby here with our babies,” Audrey said.
Faye nodded, her face serious. “I will make sure of that.”
A bit of relief washed over Audrey. Darius would protect her. Everything would be fine.
