Chapter 94 AN OUTSIDER
Darius' patience was wearing thin. His lips pursed into a taut line and his gaze was icy, glaring at Vladimir.
It was a couple of days since he tried to search for Mystica, but he couldn't find her. He thought she was strolling into the depths of the forest and somehow forgetting her way back, so he went to find her, but he still couldn't find a trace of her.
He tried going back to the place where she was found before, but she wasn't there either. He also went to find her in the river, but she had never been there.
Darius was getting worried. Mystica is human and humans rarely survive in this realm. If she mistakenly crosses the border of the forest, then she'll be in danger. He feared that something might've happened to her, so he hurried back to the portal. There he witnessed such an astonishing sight which somehow led to him finding her.
He found Vladimir and his loyal subjects unconscious nearby. Seeing them made him flare in anger, so he burned everyone, before taking his father back to the castle to get treated. He waited anxiously for several hours to question him but ignored him throughout the entire time. He kept his mouth sealed as if he hadn't heard him speaking to him.
Even if Vladimir refused to admit that he had captured Mystica, he wouldn't believe it. He reckoned that aside from him and Mystica, no one else knew about the portal, so he was certain he must've held her captive somewhere.
"Tell me where she is!" He demanded sharply. "Otherwise..."
"And now you're threatening me?" Vladimir retorted. "You have quite the guts now, I see!"
"Vladimir!" Darius snarled. "What else do you want from me? I have given everything to Arthur, haven't I?"
"Darius!" Antonia chimed in with a hint of warning. "Don't talk to your father like that!"
Darius swirled his head around. His eyes were blazing with fire while looking at Antonia. Taking a sharp breath, he voiced out, "Please stay away from this, Antonia. This has nothing to do with you!"
"You dared to speak to your mother like that?!" Vladimir scowled, trying to lift himself from the bed. "You! You!"
He wasn't able to form another word when he collapsed again. His eyes were unstable looking around. His complexion became paler, and he looked as if life was about to leave him.
"Vladimir!" Antonia shouted out in panic. Then she rushed to his side and began crying buckets. "What's wrong with you? You were fine when you left early this morning. Tell me, who did this to you? Tell me!"
She was genuinely worried about him. They've been living together for who knows how long and this was the first time she saw him this vulnerable. Her lips trembled as Vladimir's unsteady gaze fell on her. It was as if he was trying to tell her something, so she tilted her head, aligning her ear to his mouth. Then she listened to him attentively.
Amara stared at her parents in shock. Then, after a brief moment, she looked at Darius and asked, "Brother, when are you going to stop?! Can't you see that he's in terrible pain right now?!"
Darius glared at her. Hearing her trash-talking about Mystica was enough to make his blood boil. His gaze turned icier. "Shut up!" He bellowed. "You have no right to interfere in my personal affairs! Stay out of it! I warn you!"
However, Amara refused to budge. Without Antonia by her side to remind her, she became aggressive. She faced Darius willfully.
"I have every right to interfere in your affairs!" She ranted with a hint of pride. "I'm Amara Cage, which makes me your sister and the rightful member of this family, if I may remind you. You can't just ignore me! I won't allow you to do that!"
Hearing her outburst, Darius' face immediately darkened. Then he evoked a cold and dangerous smile.
"Did you just say, "sister"?" He asked. His voice was cold, lacing with sarcasm. "You're fooling yourself, don't you think?"
Amara's lips trembled in fear. Her face slowly turned pale. Somehow, she seemed to have sensed what he meant, but still, she remained adamant. "What are you talking about, Darius?"
Darius swiveled his head around, taking a good look at everyone present in the chamber as if he were considering it. Then he asked coldly, "Must you insist on this? Won't you just keep your mouth shut and leave?"
Amara felt a huge lump blocking her throat. She swallowed hard and spoke. "I'm not going to leave. You can say whatever you want, I don't give a damn!"
She refused to yield. Despite feeling a sense of uneasiness, she continued to provoke him even further. "You might be capable of doing anything, but you can't hold onto your mate! Look where she is right now! You can't even sense her traces!"
Amara and Darius' conversation took Antonia by surprise. Sensing the tension between them, she swiftly left Vladimir's side after giving orders to the doctor.
"What are you two talking about?!" She was shaking and sounded alarmed. "Stop this right now!"
Darius stared at Antonia. His face was blank, devoid of emotions as if he was just staring at a stranger.
"This wasn't supposed to be my business, Antonia." He emphasized. "I hate poking my nose into an outsider's business, but..."
Hearing the phrase "outsider", Amara interrupted him almost instantly.
"Who are you referring to as an outsider, Darius?!"
Antonia shook her head, pleading. "Darius, please listen to me!"
However, Darius' bottom line for Amara finally snapped. Ignoring his mother, he faced her squarely and spat.
"Is there anyone else aside from you?"
