Chapter 57 Chapter 57
Chapter 57 Chapter 57
Kyla's POV
“So sorry, Kyla,” Kendrick rushed as he picked the glass of water and held it to my mouth. I took a few gulps before I pulled back in relief, he patted my back softly.
His hand had touched the part where I was hurt and I flinched away. “Ouch!!”
“Sorry–” He said and pulled away from me.
I heaved a deep breath, looked up to see him leaning against the table by the wall.
Blinking, I asked him, “Why are you standing there?”
He shrugged. “Because I don't want to hurt you again?”
I giggled. “It's fine. I just choke on my food.”
He raised a doubtful eye. “So it wasn't because of my question?”
I bit my bottom lip, swallowing hard. “It kinda did–” I narrowed my eyes. “A bit.”
He placed both his hands in his pocket. “Why?”
“My– eerm.” I cleared my throat, as a lump appeared. “They died.”
His eyes narrowed. “Why?”
I shrugged. I can't tell him anything yet. He is a part of the Rogues after all.
“Since they died, I became a slave, after all I was an orphaned Omega.”
He shook his head as he sucked air through his teeth. “You're more than that.”
I stared at him for a while, wondering why he was being this way with me.
He suddenly looked down, his fist balled up and then he turned suddenly and punched the wall.
“Who gave them the right to treat people like that?” He growled, punching the wall again, so hard dust rose in the air.
“Stop it Kendrick. You don't have to hurt yourself,” I said, my voice laced with worry. His fist froze halfway as he listened to me.
“I just hate them–” He paused. His eyes fixed on mine. I could tell that there was more.
“Hate? Is a strong word,” I said, leaning forward to hear what more he had to say.
He turned to me, his eyes glazing with rage. “That's how I feel, Kyla. I hate the Blood Moon Pack.”
“You do?” I asked.
“The Leaders of Blood Moon Pack–” He paused and bit his bottom lip as he stared at me. “You're a part of them. Why should I trust you to tell you?”
I nodded softly.
It wasn't a shock that he didn't trust me just like I trust him.
“So do you hate me too? Do you plan to use me for revenge?” I asked, then I looked down at my empty plate. “Oh my? Did you?”
He raised a brow, and I pointed at the plate as I rubbed my through, swallowing.
“You didn't put something in my food right?”
He smirked and looked away. “That'll be a waste of time, Kyla. I could just snap your little neck if I want to kill you, won't I?”
I rubbed my throat harder, pouting at him. “My neck isn't little.”
He shrugged. “If you say so.”
I finished the juice. “Thanks, but in case you are thinking of using the Blood Moon Pack against me, just know I'm not a part of them anymore.”
“I hear you.”
He seemed to be telling the truth, but if he had some serious grudge against Blood Moon, why didn't it extend to me?
Kendrick pushed forth from the wall. “I'll ask Pamela to check on you later,” he said and walked towards the door. “I'll leave the door open, but don't think about escaping, I've doubled the security.”
I nodded at him and he walked off. As he left, the room felt lighter and I heaved a sigh, while getting up.
I packed the plate to the side table, arranging them neatly. Maybe I wasn't allowed to go out and keep them. I didn't even know where the kitchen was.
I closed my eyes as I retraced my steps going back a few days ago. I never thought I'd even get it past the woods, alive.
Just as I opened my eyes, I flinched as I saw someone besides me.
“You?” I asked.
Daciana narrowed her eyes at me and crossed her arms. “Of course. Me.”
I sighed, remembering she wasn't nice the last time she came to me.
“What do you want?” I asked softly.
She snickered. “What could I possibly want from a tramp like you?”
I gulped as she sized me.
“What's so special about you that got a whole Kendrick to run after you like that?”
Did Kendrick run that fast when he heard I left?
“Tell me are you a witch? Did you cast some spell on him?” She closed the space between us and leaned close to me, looking eye to eye with me.
“I'm not a–”
She scoffed. “Obviously, that would be expecting too much from a slave Omega.”
Then why did you ask? I thought in my head as I rolled my eyes slightly.
She threw her head away from me as she was about to storm out the door. “You don't even deserve this room. I wonder why you returned, you should have been mauled by some wide animals out there.”
A chill ran down my spine by her words. “Why do you hate me for no reason, Joey? You used to be a sweet girl,” I said remembering her picture on grandma Lily's wall.
As she paused, I bit my tongue regretting what I just said.
“What did you just call me?” She asked, turning to me sharply.
“I– I said nothing,” I replied as I tried to walk away, but she caught my shoulder and bashed me against the wall.
I felt my food running up my throat and I retched, my eyes rolling back. She pressed her hand tightly against my throat and I gulped instantly.
“What did you call me?” She growled, the veins on the side of her neck popping out.
Then I noticed a mark on her neck. A quarter moon shape. It was familiar because– I had one too.
It was the marks given to Omega at birth, to distinguish them from the rest.
Hers was barely visible, it seemed she covered it with make up powder.
“You are– you are an Omega.”
