Chapter 85: Lilith P.O.V.

Chapter 85: Lilith P.O.V.
He walked back in the room without the normal alpha male arrogance and confidence that I had started to become used too. Her brother didn’t walk into the room like he thought that he owned the place instead he looked almost humble while he grabbed a chair and slid it down by the foot of the bed. Is there something wrong with this guy?

He had light blonde hair and brown eyes with some freckles over his nose and cheeks, he was looking at some screens before me and writing down something on a big screen. I bit my bottom lip and stared at Emily again and she squeezed my hand, “Okay, so Lily. My name is Carter and I am in charge of making the sanctuary run smoothly. I apologize that we got off to such a rough start and I would love to learn more about how you got sent here.” He said boldly while he stared at me.

I wanted to tell him that I didn’t want to be anywhere near him and I would rather be locked in some cabin or house or something and never speak again but I didn’t.I looked at emily, “Emily, do you think you could help me sit up?” I asked, a little nervous. I didn’t want to feel too needy but she didn’t even frown or grumble she got up and put her hand on my back giving the support I need while adjusting the bed.

“Hello.. Carter. The pack where I was hurt. The woman that takes care of people there saw how much trouble I was in and helped me escape.” I played with my finger’s while trying to give him as little amount of detail as I possibly could.

“I see, well can you tell me a bit about your life before you were taken to that pack?” he asked and I felt my whole body tense. How am I supposed to tell this stranger about everything that my life has been?

“I- I think I have a better idea if you are open to it?” I asked, massaging my hands rougher and rougher.

“What do you have in mind?” he asked, putting the clipboard down and examining me from head to toe.

“One of my- one of my gifts is memory sharing.” I tried to sound as confident as I could about the power but I wasn't confident or comfortable with it at all and I really hated the idea of sharing the worst things that have ever happened to me.

He gave me a light smile. It didn’t creep me out or make me want to crawl into a hole and die but I’m broken. Every single part of me that should be able to tell the bad guys from the good guys fi they exist is broken. Getting up from the chair Carter stood at the foot of the bed, “I would be more than happy to see your history so I can help make a plan for your future if you are willing?” he suggested and I nodded again.

Turning my head and looking at Emily, “Can I show both of you?” I asked and she teared up. Are people mean to her as well? I don’t understand how they could be mean to her? Instead of getting to do some medicine on me she chose to sit next to my bed and talk to me.

“I’m sorry did I upset you?” I asked, looking over her features again.

“No, i’m sorry. That is just such a big thing for you to want to share with me. I would love too.” She squeezed my hand.

“I’m sorry carter but I only know how to do it through physical touch. Can I hold your hand so we can get this over with?” I asked, but the words that should have sounded eager to show him what type of help I needed sounded bitter and angry.

He moved silently over to the other side of the bed and took my hand, his finger’s didn’t intertwine with mine. It was a basic friendly hand holding and I focused on my breathing, slowing my heart beat down until i could see my first memory.

The memory looked fuzzy like maybe it wasn’t real while the woman I had called my sister my entire life waltzed into the living room. What I believe was the living room and stomped while I looked at a man that I think is my father, “You always favor her! What does she have that I don't!” she screamed, her voice shrill and annoying but made me feel even more tense.

The memory faded to the night that she killed my parents and little brother her laughter echoed in the walls of my childhood home while was covered in my families blood. Two men grabbed me and dragged me down the road while the pebbles and dirt worked their way into my skin before they threw me down the stairs. My body tumbling until I hit the cement.

Everything became blurry again and memories of them restraining me while they beat me to a pulp flashed through my memories. My parents lifeless bodies sat in the corner of the room with me while I cried to them about how sorry I was.

Flashes of memories came through and brought us back to the present day while I tried to focus on bringing us back into reality. The smell of cleaning supplies filled my nose and the sound of the machine helped me bring us out of my life.

I let go of both their hands and pinched the palm of my hand, “So how can you help me?” I whispered, feeling even more hopeless. The feelings of of benign nothing came back and I wanted to disappear? What if they reject me or turn me away? What am I supposed to do then?

“Lily, I am so sorry for the way you have been neglected.” Emily whimpered but she never reached for my hand again. It felt good not having to tell her that I didn’t want to be touched.
