Side Story 1-13
Paul
So many thoughts started racing through my head during the first couple of weeks that I couldn't get in touch with Roxanne. Did she tire of me? Was she ready to end things, but just didn't want to tell me? Was she hurt? What if she's been in the hospital this whole time?
All of my calls and texts remained unanswered. I even went to her house and rang the doorbell, but I got no answer, even though I knew she was home because her car was parked in front of her house. Which definitely didn't help the anxiety I felt from her absence.
It wasn't until she was no longer available that I realized just how big a part of my life she had become. She was the first and last thing on my mind every day. I couldn't go an hour without the thought of her crossing my mind.
This went on for another couple of weeks. I was going out of my mind. I had already caved and searched up Liam's information. I had called his phone only to find out that the number was disconnected. That was really disappointing.
Short of showing up at her job, I didn't know what else to do. My days dragged on. Day in and day out, the same thing, over and over again. It's like my life lost all meaning when I lost touch with Roxanne.
I'm not going to say she left me. That would mean I did something she didn't like, and I don't think I could've done something so horrible that she would just stop talking to me. Everything was fine between us, then the last thing I heard from her was that she had to head out of town, and she would call me when she got back.
I never heard from her. I gave her a week, sending her texts here and there before I started calling. Another week of that before I started showing up at her house. I felt like a full-blown stalker, but I wasn't ready to give up. If she was going to be done with me, I needed her to tell me that to my face. I'm not accepting silence.
Now here we are, two and a half months since the last time I spoke with her, and I'm headed to her house. I step out of the Uber and make my way to her front door. I see that it's dark inside, but I also notice that her car isn't in front of her house.
I can wait for her. If that's the only way I'll be able to see her, then I'll wait forever. I feel like a sucker. I think as I take a seat on her steps and drop my face into my hands.
Any other person would've given up. Any sane person, but I've been crazy for Roxanne since the moment I met her. So I know I don't qualify for sane. That has to be why, even after all this time, I'm still trying to reach out to her.
I pull my thick jacket a little tighter around me. It's late October, and the weather has gotten a bit colder. I wait. I sit there and wait. I feel the wind blowing briskly around me, and I would stand up and jog in place for a moment before sitting back down to keep warm.
I waited for two and a half hours before Roxanne's car pulled up in front of her house. I watched her as she got out of the car and walked around it before walking toward me (or more like toward her front steps).
She didn't notice me until she was almost upon me. I stand up from the steps, smiling cautiously at her, "Hi."
She sighs before asking me, "Would you like to come inside? I suppose it is time we talked."
I look down at my feet for a moment before I look back at her, and then I nod, "Sure, I would like to talk to you."
She walks up the steps, and I follow behind her. She unlocks the door and opens it, stepping aside so I can enter. She comes in behind me and shuts the door. "C'mon, let's go to the living room," she says as she walks off in that direction.
I follow her and take a seat on the couch when we get to the living room. She sits on an adjacent couch; she's not too close, but she's not too far.
I look at her and smile sadly. "Talk to me, Roxanne. Is it something I did? Are you not happy with me anymore?"
She quickly shakes her head and says, "No, Paul. I know it sounds cliché when I say it's not you, it's me. But that's the truth!"
"Then what, Roxanne? You can't ghost me for over two months with no explanation! I was worried about you! I thought something had happened!" I exclaim, feeling the tears begin to well in my eyes.
She sighs and says, "I'm sorry. I was not in a good place mentally and emotionally. I know that sounds like an excuse, but that's what happened."
"Li-Liam was raped two and a half months ago. Then he left. We don't know where he is, nor do we have any way to get in touch with him."
"I've been struggling to deal with the emotions related to that. I'm so sorry for shutting you out.
Her voice is earnest. I can tell she feels bad about the way she behaved. I also understand what she must have been feeling, so I'm not totally mad at her.
I just look at her, the tears starting to fall from my eyes as I take in everything she just said. "I'm so, so sorry, Roxanne. That Liam had to go through that, that you all have to go through the trauma of that happening to him. I don't know any other way to get you to see that you are not alone, though, Roxanne!"
"I'm here! Here to listen to your pains, your sorrows, your worries, your dreams, your goals, your fantasies. I'm here for it all, Roxy. Not just the good. It doesn't make me feel good about my position in your life when you pull away from me like this."
"I need you to talk to me. I want that to be the first thought that goes through your head, not just when you get good news, but when you get bad news as well."
After that, she says something about how she's been struggling with communicating with someone she loves. All I hear is 'someone I love'.
I can only look at her with wide eyes, "You love me?"
She nods, saying, "I do. It might seem fast, but you know the saying, when you know, you know."
I squeal and jump up from my seat straight into her lap. "I love you too! I wanted to tell you sooner, but I didn't know if you'd return my feelings or not."
I pull her face to me, kissing her softly. "I love you so much, Roxy. I just need you to know that."
She smiles at me and says, "How could I not come to love you?" Then she describes all the things about me she loves before whispering in my ear about how my hole fits her like it was made just for her.
I flush and swat her shoulder. "Cut it out!" I say laughing.
She looks at me with so much affection in her eyes, my heart skips a beat. She leans forward and presses a soft kiss to my lips and says, "Thank you, Paul. For simply being who you are."
I smile and say, "You know you're stuck with me now, right? You're my alpha, and I'm your omega. No more pushing me away. Hold me close, and never let go."
She smiles so radiantly at me that I'm momentarily blinded by the brilliance of her smile. I stare at her in awe. I really can't believe she's all mine!
I can't wait to find out what's next in the cards for us.
