Allison gave herself credit for having the nerve. If she’d been thinking clearly, she would never have done something like that.
Even the entire Sterling family walked on eggshells around Richard. Everyone was terrified of him.
First, Richard was completely distant and cold as ice. He kept his distance from everyone, even his own family. He only showed up for Christmas dinner and left the next morning.
Second, he was ruthless and cold–blooded. His terrifying reputation had spread from New York all the way to Los Angeles. He even had his own network of influence here. Yeah,
pretty scary.
This was a man who didn’t inherit the Sterling family business and built his own empire instead. Within just five years, he’d reached the top of his industry. No one could challenge him.
Even the Sterling family couldn’t match his power.
Allison’s phone rang, snapping her out of the fear in her head.

She hesitated before answering.

“Allic, I was trying to help you. Look, Jasper rushed back when he heard you weren’t feeling well.” Chloe dropped the act completely.
“But he couldn’t find you and got so mad. He told me to take your room. Said from now on, you’re staying in the Sterling Manor.”
Allison’s face went pale with rage, her chest tight with anger.
Such a fake bitch. Just like last life!
Except this time, Allison didn’t come to accuse her. Chloe couldn’t help flaunting her little victory and provoking her.
“Oh–oops. I accidentally knocked the photo on your nightstand into the trash. You’re not mad, right?”
Yeah. Accidental, her ass.
The photo was from when Allison was 18. Jasper was still in college then, but he was already helping out with the family business and spent most of his time at the office.
They were standing in his office–she’d been in her school uniform; he’d been in a sharp suit.
It was just a photo, but to her it had meant everything. She put it on the nightstand and used to look at it every night before bed. with affection.

Chloe caught every bit of mockery in her tone. Her face twisted with anger–but before she could fire back, the call cut off.
Just keep acting tough, Allison. Let’s see how long you can keep this up.
A few days later, at Dylan’s birthday celebration.
Allison stood at the entrance to the reception hall. This was her first time seeing Jasper since her rebirth. His sharp, handsome features and commanding presence made him stand out in the
crowd.
Her eyes stung as if someone had dropped acid in them. She felt like somebody was pulling her heart strings one by one. The pain was so intense that her body began to tremble.
He was chatting and laughing with other wealthy heirs, though his gaze kept drifting to Chloe–she hung on his arm like a shadow, all warm smiles and fluttering eyelashes.
Jasper had stretched his left arm across the back of her chair, casual but protective. Possessive.
