Chapter 87
The ride to the hospital is almost unbearable. I am not sure how to feel. I want to believe that everything is ok. I'm just not sure if it is okay. I don't want to get my hopes up when I'm going to be left with disappointment. All that keeps playing in my head is code blue, and I just stare out of the window with a blank stare.
My father puts his hand on my shoulder and says, “It will be okay Amelia. I know what you heard, but Derek is a fighter.”
“Thanks, dad, I'm just so tired. I just wish everything would go back the way that it was. I miss him so much, and I just want him to come home.”
“I know sweetheart, but we don't always get what we want right away. Sometimes we just need to be patient my love.”
As we are pulling into the hospital, I ask my dad, “Can you please drop me off at the doors?”
"I sure can bear, just remember that no matter what, you have Faithlyn and me. No matter what you find at the hospital today you have us."
I give him a kiss on the cheek, “Thanks daddy. I love you too.”
I run into the hospital, but I can't get to Derek's room fast enough. When I do get to his room, he is not there. The bed is empty. I go to the nursing station freaking out wondering where the hell he is. He can't be dead, he just can't be. I need him. There is no nurse. Damn this fucking place! No one is ever the fuck around! I wait for a little bit, but I just want answers. I can't take it any longer, so I go to another nursing station to ask where he is.
“Hello, I'm looking for Derek Stone. He was in room 343, but he is not there. Can you please tell me where he is?”
“I can go check. He might have gone to the recovery room. Let me go find out.”
Though I am so sick and tired of this hospital, the fucking nurses are the worst! They don't know a damn fucking thing, and it's such bullshit! You would really think that they are new and don't know how to do their job. I know I should be so grateful for everything they have done for Derek, I just want to know if he is ok! This waiting game is killing me.
“Mrs. Stone? Hi, I'm sorry. Yeah, that floor got evacuated because of technical difficulties. For some reason, the rooms started reading code blue, so the patients got redirected. Derek got moved to room 113 on the 2nd floor.”
“Oh my god! So he's alive then?”
I am so happy to hear those words and to hear that Derek is alive. I can't believe that I even doubted his will to fight. I should have known better. All this time I was so scared that he wasn't going to wake up, and he is finally coming back to me. I run as fast as I can excited to see him. Tears start filling my eyes because I am so happy that he is ok. I know that it's going to be a long road to recovery from everything that has happened, but I am not worried since I know that I'm going to be by his side through it all.
When I get to his room, I take a deep breath. I'm so nervous that it's ridiculous. I open the door, and I see him sitting up in bed. He looks at me and smiles. Tears started running down my cheeks because I am so happy to see him.
“Oh my God! Derek, I thought that you died! I was so scared! I love you so much! I am so happy your ok.”
“I am so sorry Amelia. I tried to get them to give me the phone, but they wouldn't. I even tried to bribe them with money, but things went a little crazy here. I was trying to get them to let me call you, but I had not luck.”
“Derek, I am just so relieved that you are ok. I have never been so scared in my life of anything. Losing you was terrifying.”
He looks at me and smiles, “Now you know how I felt when I thought I lost you. My world stopped. You could never get rid of me that easy Amelia. You're stuck with me forever.”
I look at him, smile, and kiss his lips that send shivers throughout my body. God, his touch is amazing. I say to him, ”You promise it'll be forever?”
“Amelia, you can never get rid of me. I love you so much. I promise you forever and ever and ever. Amelia, I hate to bring this up right now, but Jill wrote me a letter. Where is she? It almost sounded like she was telling me goodbye.”
“Derek, I don't know where Jill is. She disappeared the night you got shot. Everything was crazy when I got back to the hotel, and she wasn't there. She left a girl named Summer in her place.”
“What do you mean she just left? That is not something that she would do. I know she would never just leave me.”
“Derek, I don't know where she is, and I haven't seen her since before that night. I could ask Summer if she knows where she is.”
“Why would she write me a letter telling me goodbye? She should come and tell me goodbye in person!”
“I'm sorry. Maybe she had to leave in a hurry? She had to handle personal things.”
I can see the hurt in his eyes finding out that Jill has left. I am really not sure what his letter said, but then I remember I also have a letter from her. I don't say anything to Derek about the letter because I have no idea what it is going to say. I don't want to upset Derek more than what he already is. I didn't realize that Derek's letter was at the hospital, and I'm wondering how it got there. I can tell that he is upset after reading it. The relationship they had was so special, and she was one of the people that stayed his life always like a mother would.
“Derek, I'm sorry that you're upset. I know how much she meant to you.”
“I'm sorry Amelia. It should be a happy time, but I needed to know about Jill. I should have waited to talk to you about it, but I prayed that I was wrong and that she really wasn't gone.”
“Derek, it's ok. This is a happy day. We can start our lives together. Jill helped us get where we are right now, even if she's not here physically she is here.”
“She will be back. At the end of the letter it says, 'I will come back to you as soon as I can. Just be patient my child. I love you. From Jill.'”
