Chapter 84

I try to fight to find out how Derek is doing, but nobody is answering me. All I want to know if he made it here alive, but nobody will tell me. Then Derek's phone rings, and I see that it is Jill.

I answer it, “Hey, Jill, it is me, Amelia. I'm sorry. Many things happened and they were unexpected. Derek is in the hospital, but I don't know how he is. I don't even know if he will survive.”

“Hello Mrs. Amelia. This is not Jill. My name is Summer. Jill hired me to look after your little Faithlyn, and she told me to make sure I called you at nine pm.”

“What do you mean? Where is Jill? Why are you watching my baby?”

“She left around maybe six pm. She told me to call you at nine pm to tell you she left you a letter, and she said you will know what to do.”

“What do you mean she left! Oh God, is there any possible way you can stay longer? There has been an accident, and I need to stay with Derek longer, at least until I find out if he is ok.”

“Of course I can stay with her for a little longer. That is fine. I hope that your husband is ok Mrs Stone.”

I hold onto the phone worried that Faithlyn is with somebody I don't know, but if Jill trusts her there's no reason I shouldn't. She would not leave Faithlyn with just anybody that she did not know or trust. I'm not really sure where the hell she would have gone, but she must have had something really important that she had to attend to. My father stays with me, and I am so relieved that I am not here alone. I know that I should call Derek's parents, but I've never even met his parents. Anyways, I don't even have their phone numbers to call them.

My father grabs a hold of my hand and says, "It's going to be ok honey. Don't worry, he's a fighter. He will fight this, especially to be with you and Faithlyn.”

“I know he's fighting dad. It's just, I just want to know if he's ok, that's all. Why can't they tell me?”

My dad put his arms around me, and I put my head on his chest. He hugs me and says, “I know sweetheart, just be patient. They will come and tell you that he is ok.”

I sob while my face is against his chest. I wet his t-shirt with my tears. I should have knew better, and I should not have made a plan without including him. This would have never happened if I would have just told him dammit! How could I have been so dumb? All I wanted was for us to live happily together! That's all I ever wanted. I didn't just jeopardize my future, I jeopardized Faithlyn's future too. How could I have been so bold? I just wanted her to be free to live her own life the way that she chose to and marry whoever the hell she wanted to. I just wanted her to be happy, that's all that matters to me. Now that I might lose Derek, I'm not so sure that what I did was the right thing to do.

I wait for what seems to be hours with no answers. Then all of a sudden, I see Tanner's parents walking over to me. I get out from under my father's grip and stand up. I'm not sure what they're about to say to me, but I thought it was nice that they were stopping by.

“Hello, I was just wondering, I mean I just thought we would stop to see how Derek was doing.”

“I haven't got any word on how his condition is yet. I've been waiting to find out, but nobody's giving me any answers.”

“I don't think we officially ever introduced ourselves. My name is Trevor, and this is my wife Emily. I wanted so much to get out of this contract for my son, so I am relieved that my father is dead. I know what happened is terrible, but I didn't want my son to be forced into a life he didn't choose, especially by a father who never even wanted me in the first place. I really hope that Derek survives this. We are getting ready to head home, but I'm going to act like this night never happened.”

“Did the detective tell you anything about who did all of this?”

“Their story sounded crazy to me. All I really know is that Brittany and our parents are dead, that's all. They were murdered.”

“Oh my god! Brittany is dead too?”

“Yes, I guess they found her body earlier that day, and then they got called out to see what happened at our dinner party. I guess whoever they pissed off this time killed them all.”

“I am just happy we survived. Who knew pretending to be dead would be the new survival technique.”

“Yes, who knew, especially in that kind of situation. Why would they want to hurt all of us when we've done nothing wrong? The ones that survived deserved to live, but the ones that didn't, I guess they deserved what was coming. I really hope he pulls through. Let us know how Derek is when you find out, but for now, we are going home to our son.”

I am in shock of what I just found out. Oh my God! Brittany is dead. What the hell happened? It wasn't supposed to go down like this. Are the gunman going to come after me because of what I had planned with Brittany. Oh my God! Faithlyn! I need to get to her to make sure she is ok. I need to protect her! What if they're coming after her next because of what I did?

“Dad I need you to take me back to the hotel. I need to check on Faithlyn to make sure she is ok.”

“Don't you want to wait to make sure that Derek pulls through.”

“Yes, but I can't. I need to check on my daughter. Derek knows the most important person in our lives is her.”

I walk up to the nursing station to tell them that I am leaving, and that I will be back. I leave my number so that they can call me when they get any news on Derek's condition. We walk out of the hospital and begin the car ride to the hotel. I'm starting to regret what I had planned with Brittany knowing that she is dead because of me. I'm wondering if I'm going to be next and if I've just endangered my daughters life. All I really wanted to do was give her the life that she deserved. I wanted to give her a life that she would be able to do whatever she wanted to do and be allowed to plan her own future.

As we pull up to the hotel, I'm nervous as I open up the car door. I run out without even saying goodbye to my father. I can't help it, I just want to see if my daughter is ok.I just want to make sure that she is safe. I am running through the hotel like a maniac to get to my room. Then I realize, I don't have my hotel key. I knock on the door hoping that they answer. When the door openings, I see a young woman who resembles Jill holding my baby girl. I'm wondering if she is Jill's daughter. I am so overjoyed to see that they're both ok.

I put Faithlyn in my hands, and I hug her. I'm shocked that she is awake, but I'm so glad to see her. Knowing that she is safe fills my heart with comfort. I cradle her in my arms before setting her in her crib. I'm so overwhelmed with joy that I let out sobs of happiness.

“You must be Amelia. Hi, my name is Summer I am Jill's understudy. She has been training me to take over her job.”

“Wait, what do you mean to take over her job? Where is she?”

“I am not sure where she has gone, but she gave me a letter for you. She also gave me a letter for Derek. She said after you read them to burn them, and don't keep them.”

“Wait, you mean she's gone? Like, she's never coming back, ever?”

“She said that she explained everything in her letter and that you need to read it to find your answers. Why don't you let me take Faithlyn for now, Miss, so you can get changed out of your clothes. They are quite bloody.”

I look at her in confusion not sure what to do. I know that if Jill trusted her that I can trust her too. Jill loved Faithlyn and Derek more than anything in the world. She would never jeopardize their lives for anything, so I hand her Faithlyn. I take the note out of her hands and walk to my bedroom. I look at myself in the mirror terrified by the way I look. I just stand there in shock not really sure what to do. I take my dress off and let it fall to the ground. Then I start the shower water and let it warm before I get in to take a shower. I wish the water could cleanse me everything that has happened today. That is too far fetched, and I know it is not going to happen, I can't change what is already done. I clean my body and cry in the shower wondering what have I done.

I hear my phone ring, and I go as fast as I can go get out of the shower before they hang up. I answer, “Hello,” I trip on the floor. As the phone falls, I hurry up and grab it and put it to my ear hoping it didn't hang up.

"Hello. This is Dr. Harrison. Is this Amelia stone?"

I love hearing people use my new last name Stone even though we are not officially married yet. If he will ever be able to survive this I will be his wife. That's if he survives, then we will be able to finally get married I think to myself as I respond, “Yes, this is Amelia stone.”
