Chapter 79 The News
Calhoun's POV
"Killing an Alpha and his men during your fake funeral is uncalled for," Elder Festus has displeasure on his face when he points this out.
"Let's not talk about how he faked his death," this is from another Elder who is seated next to him at the large table in the council hall. They sought my presence a few hours ago, only to throw blame in my face.
"Your behavior is totally unacceptable, Alpha Calhoun," Elder Festus continues and Bruce puts his hand on his mouth to snicker. While I don't find anything funny here. They're starting to become a pain in the ass.
"Alpha Ezra tried to kill me first, the first thing he did after two years of not seeing ourselves, was to invite me over and poison me."
"Still you could've looked for a proper way to handle things," Elder Festus still objects to me.
"What if I had died?" I ask, glaring at each and every one of them.
This question is enough to shut them up.
"None of you would have been here with this topic, you would have made someone else take my position as Alpha of this pack," I state matter-of-factly, that my glare is still intense.
"You don't have to put it like that," another elder says.
"It's true, no one on this table is aware of how I suffered with the black bane poison in my system. And luring Alpha Ezra into my trap through a fake funeral was the best way and it's something I would do over a thousand times. I gave him the taste of his own poison." I say without any form of regret.
"Still there could have been a more proper way to handle things instead of poisoning him and letting him and his men die in front of everyone. People watched them take their last breaths." Elder Festus picked tonight of all the timing in the world to piss me off.
Slamming my fist on the table, I stand up with anger evident on my face.
"I'm out of here," I growl.
"You can't leave in the middle of the meeting..." Bruce is objecting to me when I interrupt him.
"I have the right to leave when I want, and the elders here are under me. I can have people replace them if I want," I grit out, loud enough for everyone to hear. And I can see the bemused expression on their faces.
"Calm down, Alpha Calhoun," Bruce puts his hand on mine to refrain me from going further.
Elder Gail clears his throat, "There's been rumors that you're a deadly Alpha. Luring people into his home to kill."
"At least I did it to protect myself, people will always talk."
"What do you plan to do with Natalie? Things have been complicated since you involved yourself in this love triangle with both mother and daughter."
"I don't think it's anyone's business with my personal life, I do what I want."
The large doors get jerked open and in comes two females, panting like they shifted and ran all the way here.
"Alpha Calhoun!" They yell in unison.
And I am a bit caught off guard when the realization hits me hard that it's Kristen's friends. Sapphire and Maddy?
"How dare you two storm into a meeting held by his Alpha and elders?" Elder Festus barks at them.
While I hold my hand up to silence him because these girls look like they were chased by something dangerous.
I don't even have a good feeling about this.
"Where is Kristen? Did something happen? Natalie attacked her?" These words rush out of my mouth as I leave the table, but they catch up with me before I can reach their side.
"Alpha Calhoun, it's Kristen," they're panicking and talking really fast.
"What's wrong with Kristen?"
"We were on our way out to a bar when someone attacked us, he took Kristen with him."
"What?"
"Kristen has been kidnapped!"
My breath gets caught up in my throat, the world around me narrows, and the only thing I can hear is the sound of my heart thudding in my chest.
"He was about six foot tall and a bit burly," Maddy describes.
"Completely dressed in black," Sapphire adds.
"It's Jack," Bruce speaks up.
"Fuck!" I rake my hands through my hair because the more I keep thinking about Kristen's position, the more I'm close to losing my wits.
"Just calm down, we'll find her," Bruce assures me, yet nothing makes no sense.
"How do you expect me to calm down when the mother of my unborn child has been kidnapped by Jack!?" I thunder at the top of my lungs and Bruce hurriedly takes a step back upon seeing how furious I am.
"He threatened to kill us if Kristen wouldn't go with him and in order to save us, she agreed to be abducted," Sapphire rasps out, pacing back and forth.
"It seems like he's been stalking her for a long time now," Maddy is already in tears.
"What the fuck! What the fuck! What that fuck!?" My bellow is enough to bring the walls down. And everyone out here is frightened to come close to me.
We're back at my estate because I couldn't continue with the meeting.
Kristen is all that matters to me.
To think she's finally been kidnapped by Jack, after his failed first attempt.
Is she cold? In tears? Weeping and calling out to me to come rescue her?
Has he touched...fuck! I can't even let my brain complete the nasty thoughts which are starting to torment the shit out of my senses.
"I should have killed him," I speak to no one in particular as I jam my fingers through my hair for the umpteenth time.
"I never should have let him escape." Balling my fingers into tight hard fists, I ground my teeth until my jaw begins to hurt.
"Jack hardly kills females except they aren't submissive, so Kristen is still alive," my beta informs me.
"I swear to God, if he touches any part of her I'll tear off his limbs from his body." I am already going insane at this point, losing all forms of self-control.
Bruce steps forward with a clenched jaw.
"Let me handle this, Calhoun. By dawn, we'll bring Kristen back to you. And she'll be unharmed."
"Do you think I'll wait here until tomorrow when Kristen is out there with this freak who is obsessed with her!?"
"I want to help you."
"We leave tonight."
