Chapter 56 About Calhoun
Kristen's POV
"Why did you hide the truth from us?" Sapphire jabs her shoulder in mine, as we walk out of the lecture hall together.
And I cast her an incredulous look because she doesn't even want to go there when a secret is never safe with her or Maddy. "Do you know how hard it was for me to deal with guilt all the time? Besides you two talk a lot, you could let things slip off easily from your lips."
"But we're still your friends and you ought to share deep secrets with us," Maddy pouts at me. She's the shortest out of all three of us while Sapphire is the tallest.
"Woah, I can't believe you were mated to Alpha Calhoun this entire time, "Sapphire has her eyes raised in their sockets, because never in her life did she expect such a thing to happen.
"Mated to her mother's husband, you mean," Maddy scoffs as she hugs her book to herself.
"Whoa, that's just so strange. Something like this hasn't happened before." Sapphire blinks and then looks at me, her face still in disbelief and shock.
"And I wonder what the moon goddess was thinking when she did that?" I rasp out, putting just one strap of my backpack on my shoulder.
"How's your mom handling this?" Maddy inquires as she nears my side.
"And she must be upset to know you slept with her husband," Sapphire adds with a little frown taking over her face after she says this.
I sigh upon thinking about everything which happened last weekSunday.
"Two words, she hates me," I tell them, there's no need to hide anymore.
When it's already made known everywhere that Calhoun and I were mates long before he even married my Mom.
"I can understand how she feels, it's truly upsetting to fall in love with a man and then find out he cheated on you with your daughter, and as if that isn't enough, he's mated to your daughter," Maddy shakes her head as if she feels pitiful towards mom. "It's fucked up," this comes from Sapphire.
"Your life's a mess, Kristen," Maddy shifts that pitiful gaze to me, even though I don't need it.
"But you have someone like Alpha Calhoun in your life, do you know what that means?" Sapphire pulls me into a one-arm hug and breaks into a huge grin.
"You're going to be his Luna!" My two friends chorus, before bursting into giggles.
"Oh, don't get ahead of yourself, you guys. Do you even hear yourselves? You think I will claim my mom's position as his wife and Luna?" I can't even believe they're excited right now.
"But it's not your fault that you're mated to him," Sapphire says, her voice more audible than before.
And Maddy paused to stare at me for some time.
"What?" It's making me uncomfortable.
"From the onlook of things, he'll marry you." She says at last.
"And my mom?" I ask after rolling my eyes.
"She should actualize the fact that Calhoun truly isn't hers." Sapphire gives out a slight shoulder shrug as if it's not a biggie. "How can you even say that?" I can't help but frown at this.
"Maybe you should stop thinking about your mom and focus on yourself, she has her life to live and you have yours." She carefully states.
Rolling my eyes in their sockets, I just shake my head at their display of selfishness.
"I can't believe you guys right now." I facepalm and puff out a breath.
"You just care too much, Kristen," this is from Maddy.
"We heard you fought Ben's ex-girlfriend at his mother's funeral and ruined things." Sapphire stops me with this talk.
can't believe lies have been going around me
"That's not entirely true, she attacked me first," I defend myself.
"There's been whispers going around that you're more powerful than you look, that you could've killed Ciara." Maddy looks at me with worry.
"That's not true, my wolf dodged before hers could bite, I only defended myself." Why are people telling lies like that? "And Ben?" Sapphire nudges my shoulder.
"He's a jerk, to think he thinks low of me after what happened." I don't even feel bad when I make this known to them. "Who cares about him anyway? You already have Calhoun," Maddy giggles and Sapphire joins in.
"Not again." I'm rolling my eyes for the umpteenth time now.
And they burst into fits of giggles.
They just act so childishly at the mention of Calhoun. And it's still them who keep bringing him up.
A limousine stops right in front of the gate and a man in a suit steps right out of it.
"I'm here for Kristen," he says, looking at the girls until his eyes land on me.
"Me?" I point at myself.
And he nods.
My friends and I exchange a confused glance before returning our attention to him.
"What for?" I'm completely confused right now.
"I was sent by Alpha Calhoun to pick you up," The man explains himself.
"Why?"
"Just following instructions." He says.
"What are you waiting for? Get in already!" My friends urge me.
But I'm a bit skeptical about this.
"Can you put Calhoun on the phone so I can speak with him?" I want to be sure it's him.
"Sure," the man agrees.
A few minutes later, Calhoun's face pops on the screen. He's at the office.
'Hey,' he says from the other end of the phone with a small smile on his face.
And my friends literally swoon at this.
They're so attracted to him that they can't even hide it or control themselves.
"Why did you arrange a chauffeur to pick me up? Is there anything special occasion?"
"Yes, I have something set up for you," Calhoun tells me.
Confused, I blink.
"You can come with your friends if you want to," he adds, upon seeing the way Maddy and Sapphire are staring at him from each of my sides.
"Really?" My eyes rise in their sockets.
"Yes." He nods.
At this, Maddy and Sapphire burst into peals of excitement before high-fiving each other.
