Chapter 178 The Truth

Chapter 178 The Truth

Calhoun's POV
"You couldn't stand him, nor could we. Wow, just wow! Who could have ever thought that it would be Kristen?" Bruce is still having a hard time believing Kristen murdered Theodore. I am too. Everyone else is.
"It's something I am still trying to wrap my head around. She came back, drove for a day with Theodore's dead body in the backseat of the car. It's something I cannot do," I pour myself some vodka, and instead of drinking it, I toy with the glass instead.
"She's so brave. I know a lot of women who would freak out upon seeing a dead body," my beta nears my side and pours himself a glass of vodka too.
"That's why she's Luna. No one can uphold that status as much as she," my voice contains so much admiration for Kristen. She keeps me astonished all the time.
"Calhoun," The said person's voice ring out, and I fasten my eyes to the door. There, I see her standing alone.
"We need to talk," she adds quietly.
Bruce takes the hint and makes his way out of the room, leaving just me and my wife.
"I know you thought I cheated on you," Kristen observes my face as she says this.
"Yes," I am honest. There's no point denying anything.
"I did not, it never crossed my mind to do it even for a second," and she holds my gaze, not bothering to break eye contact or even blink.
"But you sneaked out to meet him," it's upsetting to even remember this.
"Yes, I was begging him to accept my rejection. I wanted to do it without your knowledge because I didn't want to hurt your feelings," Kristen explains to me, not even showing any signs of guilt. I have to admit that she's changed since she drove back to our pack with Theodore's dead body in the back seat of the car.
"You could have told me everything," I let this out at last.
"I thought I could handle it all by myself," there's so much honesty in her eyes, and I have no choice but to believe her.
"Did he hurt you?" I know there's nothing I can do if I find out Theodore hurt her because he's dead. But I just want to know.
"No, only left me in chains so I wouldn't escape," Kristen says.
I don't respond to this, I just tighten my fists instead. I wish I could hit the bastard even though he's dead.
"Did he touch you?" I force these words out of my mouth because thoughts of it already tormented my mind earlier.
I am expecting her to reply quickly, but she doesn't instead she looks away from me.
And it's like putting me on the edge.
"Tell me, Kristen," I persuade her.
"He married me before putting me on that boat to sail far away," Kristen looks away from me after letting this out.
"Just tell me he didn't touch you, Kristen," my voice is rough, showing how frustrated I am to hear her
reply.
"No, he did not touch me," she replied at last.
"Then why did it take so long for you to respond?" I
am still skeptical.
"Because I let him kiss me, so I could kill him. Dug my
claws in his chest and ripped his heart out."
I hold my breath and stay still as I try to imagine this.
Theodore married Kristen.
He put his lips on my wife's lips.
Kissed her mouth.
I can hold onto this and choose to get mad, but it will
be rather childish, because the person in question is gone. What matters is that Kristen is here. She came back before I could go to her.
Closing the distance between our two, I embrace my wife.
My wife killed her second mate so she could come back to me and our son.
I bury my head in the crook of her neck and let her scent fill my nostrils like I used to.
My body relaxes when she wraps her hands around
my back.
I am glad it's all over, even though things ended in the weirdest, most unpredictable way as possible. Silence hangs around as we keep hugging ourselves tightly, as if trying to make up for all the days we were separated from each other.
After a few minutes run by, we break off from the hug to stare at ourselves.
"I thought you would leave me for him," my voice is
a bit rough when I say this because I am remembering the hurt I felt these past few days.
"Then it was stupid of you to think that. We've been together for almost a year. And we have a son together," Kristen shoots me an incredulous look.
Although I don't blame her, I wasn't in my right state
of mind, but I think someone else in my shoes would have had the same thoughts as me. All because of that
book. "I confirmed from the elders that a person can actually have two mates. And I thought I was no good
for you, so the moon goddess brought Theodore so you could be with me instead of him."
"And I ended up killing him, something which might
have cursed me or not," Kristen gives me a smile that doesn't even reach her eyes.
"I don't think so," I close the distance between us
just to tuck her hair behind her ear.
It's been three hours since Kristen came back and
she's all washed up, but the weight of everything is still on her face. She's been through a lot, with Theodore and then his dead body.
"How do you feel after murdering someone?" I ask
because it's her first time. Not like she had any choice.
"Guilty, a bit scared. I feel bad for Darcy, but Theodore's gone. She has to live with it because her brother is a monster," Kristen tells me.
And it's surprising to hear her talk this way. She's
always been compassionate and thoughtful but this time she is different. It's not even faked.
Kristen puts her hand on my cheek and gives me a
small smile.
"I prioritize you the same way I prioritize our son.
And I won't let anything, not even a second mate to come in between us. We're in this together for life,
Calhoun."
