Chapter 177 Back Again

Chapter 177 Back Again

Kristen's POV
My whole body quivers immediately when Calhoun comes out of the car.
To think he's the first person I see upon my return home. I didn't know I missed him this much until I finally clasp my eyes on him.
I never thought I would see him out here, looking hale and hearty, as if he wasn't hurt by Theodore two days ago.
I feel lightheaded and weak because I haven't slept, eaten, or had water in 24 hours. I have been driving and only stopping to get some gas at the gas station. While Theodore's dear body was covered in the back seat of the car, like a person who was asleep.
"Kristen..." Calhoun calls out to me in utter disbelief, giving out that he wasn't expecting to see me here.
And immediately, I feel all the stress from two days crashing upon me.
My knees wobble and they're starting to give out underneath me because my vision blurs for a few seconds.
But Calhoun is already at my side, his hands securing my waist to protect me from falling. Just like the first night we met ourselves at the club and I was drunk when I approached him.
It feels so good to be in his arms again. To know that he's alive and he didn't die just the way Theodore told
me.
Theodore, who wished for Calhoun's death, is the one who is dead now.
"He's gone, Calhoun.." I tell Calhoun as I grab his arms, to feel he's real enough.
"Who's gone?" My husband has confusion, relief, and pain in his eyes, and it's worth questioning how someone can show all these emotions at once.
"Theodore, I killed him," I confess to Calhoun.
And he is silenced by shock.
A minute passes but Calhoun doesn't even utter a word. Although he's still holding me protectively in his arms so I don't slip and fall, he's quiet.
"After holding me hostage for two days, he tried to take me far away through a boat..." I continue as if I am not talking about the man whom I killed. As if I am talking about something else, something normal.
"Let's get you inside, Kristen..." This is the first thing Calhoun says since I broke the news of my second mate's death to him.
"I tricked him, killed him. Pulled his heart out of his chest," I add while searching through the eyes of my husband.
"No.." Calhoun is shaking his head, trying to wave this off because he thinks I am not telling the truth. He probably sees me as a lie now.
"I did kill Theodore. I wanted to come back to you and our son as fast as possible. I was dying inside," I don't give up, instead I am trying to convince him.
Calhoun steadies me on my feet and cups my face in his large warm paws.
"Listen to me Kristen, you aren't in your right state of mind," All the confusion and hurt are not evident on his face anymore. It's now fear.
"I'm telling the truth, Calhoun. I killed him," I wonder why he thinks I'm not mentally stable. Why is it so hard for him to believe Theodore Fitzgerald is dead? When the man's lifeless body is in the back seat of the car.
"Kristen..." Calhoun starts to speak but I abruptly cut him short.
"Check the back seat of the car if you don't believe me, "I tell him with all seriousness.
But Calhoun doesn't even believe me, nor does he want to let go of me. He just buries his head in the
crook of my neck. And trembles a little.
Frustrated, I push him away from me.
"Now! Calhoun! Do it!" I yell, persuading him.
My husband stares at me for some time, until he figures out how serious I am. And then he obliges reluctantly.
I notice how his body tenses when he sees Theodore's body. Something which is the last thing he was expecting to see because Theodore almost killed him, and his men couldn't even stand Theodore.
"I drove a full day with the dead body of this man," I speak with ease upon knowing Calhoun believes me now. The dead body is enough proof to cover
everything up.
But Calhoun is still in a shocked state.
"I had to do it either way, I couldn't let Theodore take
me away from you and our son, because of his stupid obsession for me," I make this known to Calhoun.
And his Adam's apple bobs up, giving out that he's swallowing hard.
He never expected his fragile Kristen to kill a man
who almost murdered him.
"Let's go home, Calhoun. You can't stay here and stare at Theodore's body forever.
One hour later.
The news of Theodore's death spread through the
whole pack like wildfire.
It's surprising how I am not blamed for his death, rather people are rejoicing that I killed the man who almost wreaked havoc in the Alpha's family.
Calhoun is still having a hard time believing that I
actually killed Theodore Fitzgerald, he doesn't look at me the same anymore.
We're yet to talk about the whole second mate thing,
but he's giving me enough time to get myself back because Theodore's death is enough evidence that I never had anything to do with my second mate.
Tears brim to my eyes when Aiden's nanny brings him to me.
To think of the tears he must have shed while he was
in need of my attention. I am lucky Cynthia was here the whole time to look after him because Aiden is selective with the people he lets scoop him. Theodore Fitzgerald told me I would never get to see my son again.
But now, it's all over with him gone.
If only he had agreed to accept my rejection at the
council hall, he would still be alive today.
I have his blood in my hands, it's something that can
never go away.
But I don't regret killing him either, or else I would have lost Calhoun and our son.
