Chapter 160 Sneaking About
Kristen's POV
One hour later...
"Who is it?" The prison guards hold up their hands to stop me, upon seeing how I neared the large gates.
"Let me through, I need to speak with someone," I try to fake a rough, masculine voice but it's futile.
"The gates cannot be opened unless we receive an order from Alpha Calhoun," the taller guard says.
"I am aware, that's why I'm here," I make this known to them.
"Who really are you?" One of the
guards asks this because I have my
eyes fixed at my feet.
Leaning closer, I take the hat off to reveal my face.
And they gasp upon realizing it's their Luna.
"Why are you here like this?" They ask in unison.
"Because I don't want your Alpha to know," I tell them after letting out a sigh.
The guards exchange a confused glance before returning their attention
to me.
"Are you here for your mother?" The taller guard takes a step back to examine my face. I can tell because his forehead lines are visible.
ן"
"No, I came to see the new prisoner," I say.
"You mean the one who disrespected our Alpha, Theodore Fitzgerald?" He asks with respect.
"Yes," I nod.
In a rush, they open the gates to let me
in.
"Can you do me a favor?"
"Yes, my Luna."
"Do not mention this to your Alpha Calhoun, keep your lips sealed,"
"Yes, our Luna," they give me a curt nod, before moving out of the way so I can come forth.
The dungeon is still the same to me, even though I visited it only once, which was the day I put Aiden to bed. Cold, with this rusty smell that leaves a tingling sensation in my nostrils.
First, I came here to visit my mom and now I'm here to see Theodore. Two people who want to separate me and Calhoun. My mom still wants Calhoun to herself and Theodore is already obsessed with me.
I can recall how I sneaked my way past
the guards back home. It was a tough feat because I am two days away from healing completely.
Thankfully, Theodore's cell isn't close to my mom's, so I don't get to see her face, or any other prisoner around here as I side-step their cells.
And Theodore must have heard my footsteps approaching because he hurries to the gate and puts his hands on the iron bars.
"Kristen?" Theodore's voice is rough as he calls out to me. If he's shocked, he doesn't appear so. Because he seems to recognize me so well.
"What have you done?" I manage to ask the question which has been on my chest the whole time.
"I can't believe you came in a disguise
just to see me. You're not well enough, "Theodore looks at me with so much care, to the extent I feel vomit climbing up to my throat. Because he
has the right to look at me this way. It's all shades of wrong. "Why did you insult my husband?" I
put my hands behind me and wait for his answer.
"He's the mountain standing on our
path," Theodore points out and hardens his jaw.
"You're walking faster than your shadow, Theodore, Calhoun is your Alpha." Shit, why does it hurt so much
to stand? My head is hurting like I just had the accident a few hours ago and not even yesterday.
"You hear me?" I continue because Theodore is quietly observing me, He's your Alpha and he's a good man.'
"And you're my mate," Theodore declares with so much authority. And I
pause to wonder where he had so much courage, upon knowing who Calhoun
is.
"Something isn't right somewhere," I shake my head to myself. "Here we go again," Theodore rolls his
eyes in their sockets because he knows the angle I'm heading at
"It's true, I can't have two mates," again, I shake my head.
"Hold on, you mean to tell me you're
already mated to Calhoun before I
"
came into the picture?" And I have never seen him look so confused before.
"Yes," I nod, hoping he'll let me reject him after finding out the truth. And Theodore stuns me by bubbling
with chuckles as if I just cracked him a
joke.
"Do you find this funny?" I can't help but ask as curiosity battles deep within
me.
"I understand your frustration, Kristen. You strongly care about your devotion to your husband and you want to protect your marriage with
him," Theodore quickly facepalms and sighs, before returning his gaze to me, "But on the other hand, you don't have to tell lies like this."
"What do you mean? I just told you the
truth," it's so upsetting to know he thinks I'm in denial.
"Calhoun isn't your mate, Kristen. You
can't have two mates!" Theodore yells, looking pissed.
"For fucks sake, you're the one who isn't my mate. Dammit! I have only one mate and that's Calhoun!" I am almost out of breath after shouting at the top of my lungs, because I am upset. And being around Calhoun has
made me to start cursing like him when pissed off.
Theodore is yet to speak. And with the way he's observing my face, I can tell he has a lot going through his mind. A lot that has to do with me.
"I need to look for a way to convince
Calhoun to release you, so I can reject you in secret," I say, hoping he'll listen to me and be cooperative. "Run away with me, Kristen," there
goes Theodore. Spouting the most incredulous thing I have heard in such
a long time.
"What?" I lean closer to his gate with my huge eyes.
"You heard me. Let's go far away from
here and start life afresh," he adds, looking so serious and I just want to slap him hard across his cheek. "Are you insane?" I can't help but ask
this because his demand is completely ridiculous and unbelievable.
"I can tell you're afraid of what people
will say, and mostly Calhoun. But I promise you, I will protect you with
my life."
