Chapter 157 Shocking Attitude
Calhoun's POV
Kristen would never lie to me.
I can swear I heard a man's voice earlier, but then she assured me no one else was in except her. But the look on her face said otherwise. I could tell she wasn't settled. Was it the pain, or she just wanted some time alone?
And then the scent which clearly wasn't hers.
A deep, rich herbaceous smell.
Purely male.
Or can it be one of the doctors who took his leave right before my arrival?
But it was so strong as if the person was present in the room, except I couldn't find anyone. Aside from that, Kristen hasn't lied to me before, so it might be just my doubts getting into my head.
I walk until I am in front of where I have my stacks of wine because I can use a drink now.
Upon pouring myself a glass full, I dawn it within seconds and proceed to pour myself a second glass, when the throne room's large doors give off a screeching noise. Something which indicates that the guards are opening it and letting someone in.
"What took you so long?" I ask, upon knowing it's my Beta.
"They looked for him but couldn't find him. He's nowhere near this premises, "Bruce passes this information to me as he stands at my back.
Toying with my glass of wine, I turn to face my beta.
"He ran away?" A frown hits my face.
"No," Bruce shakes his head and
continues, "Darcy is still here. And
Theodore doesn't seem like someone
who will leave this pack."
"When he's found, lock him up and
torture him if possible, I need answers about the accident," I give this order to my beta.
"But he saved our Luna, you can't just hurt him." Bruce persists, hinting that he's against this command.
Slurping the rest of my wine, I slam the glass on the table beside me, to the extent it cracks.
And my beta has his eyes lowered in their sockets, showing me the signs of how he's recognized how upset I am.
"Something isn't right somewhere, he's not telling the complete truth. Kristen was unconscious and he was covered in bruises when he brought
her home. And they were both soaked by the rain." My voice is hard, hinting at my Beta that I can transfer my frustration to him.
"You think they fought or something?
"Bruce moves back, upon sensing it's no time to be goofy.
"No," it's my turn to shake my head at
him.
"Kristen would have told you if something happened when she woke
up," Bruce implies as he puts his hands right behind him.
"What if she's just trying to cover up
for him because she doesn't want me to hurt him?" I wave my hand for
emphasis.
"You think he tried to rape her in her
car?" Bruce raises his brow at me with
an amused expression on his face.
"Question is, how did he know she lives here?" I ask with a huge confused frown.
"Obviously, the two must have talked.
"Bruce points out.
"Meaning they met before the accident?" I question my beta after releasing a low sigh.
"You should be questioning your wife and not me, Alpha Calhoun." Bruce says and it's his turn to frown at me.
Frustrated, I turn away from my beta.
It's been barely two days since I let someone into my pack and now he's already being a concern to me.
"Kristen didn't tell you anything about the accident?" Bruce inquires.
"I told her not to worry, that she could
talk when she wanted to," a sigh rolls from my nostrils after I let this out.
"I don't get why you seem so worked up, Calhoun. Theodore saved Kristen, you should be glad she's alive," Bruce
walks until he's standing in front of
me.
"Kristen hasn't gotten into an accident
before because she isn't a careless
driver," I point out uselessly, just because I am looking for who to shift the blame on and Theodore seems like
the perfect fit.
"Upon knowing you would be this perplexed, you should have asked her a
few questions." Bruce's voice sounds muffled because he's facepalming. "Alpha Calhoun, I heard you were
looking for me," the guards barely finish opening the door before the said person makes his presence known. "Where did you go?" I leave my side
and take long strides until I am standing in front of him.
"I was around the premises," Theodore tells me. If he's intimidated by me, he doesn't even show it.
"I had my man look everywhere for
you, yet they couldn't find you. Now tell me, where exactly did you go?" Watching him warily, I throw my arms across my chest.
And Theodore is yet to respond. Instead, he holds his head up high and looks me right in the eye.
"Somewhere you shouldn't know," he replies at last.
Something which has me questioning his guts. "What does that mean?" My voice is
calm, although I am starting to dislike his attitude.
"It's confusing to see you questioning
me as if I am a child, sir," Theodore doesn't even look away from me when he says this. And my beta and I exchanged a puzzled look, because two nights ago, Theodore was desperately pleading that I let him in, and now he's acting
strange as if we're in some sort of competition?
And why in the seven hells does he
have the exact smell that I perceived in Kristen's room earlier? Deciding I will do away with this
attitude because I need answers, I continue with my questions. "I need to know how the accident happened."
"I already told you before, Alpha Calhoun. My mate..." Theodore stops to correct himself while still holding my gaze. And this sparks an indescribable emotion in me. "Kristen.." he adds, and I can feel my
body trembling in rage.
"Wait, did you just say your mate?" Bruce speaks up before I can. "How dare you call her by her name
when you know she's Luna of this pack and also my wife?" I roar as I let my
hands fall to their sides, so I can fist my finger.
"My apologies Alpha Calhoun, it was a
slip of the tongue..." Theodore begins to apologize although his expression
says otherwise.
"And hold on," Bruce nears our side, holding up a hand, "I heard you clearly
when you said 'my mate," he directs this to the man in front of me.
Instead of replying, Theodore just
holds my gaze and hardens his jaw. "Are you being serious right now? Glaring at Calhoun? He's your Alpha
for fucks sake. How dare you act this way?" Bruce hisses at Theodore, who in turn remains silent as he continues
the stare exchange with me.
"He wants to see the other side of me,
||
a bitter chuckle leaves my mouth as I put my fisted hand against it, and stare at the man in front of me, someone who I am even towering with two inches.
"Guards!" I yell.
And in a rush, they make their way in.
"Calhoun, wait..." Bruce is out to talk me out of it but I don't let him.
"Take him away and lock him up," I direct this order to my guards.
I am expecting him to say he's sorry or something, but he doesn't. Instead, he just keeps glaring at me without
uttering a word.
My men are quick to hold him captive.
And he doesn't even struggle with them.
"What the heck is wrong with you, Theodore? Apologize this instant!"
This yell is from Bruce who already feels great pity towards him.
"Last time I recall, I didn't do anything wrong." Theodore defends
himself from where he's being held by the guards. Something which is just ridiculous and prideful to me. His response startles everyone, mostly
my beta who was present from the
beginning.
And this leaves me wondering if I let
an undercover enemy into my pack.
"Alpha Calhoun, please don't do this," it's Darcy, rushing into the scene with
her aid stick.
"Don't lock him up, I beg of you. He's the only person who looks after me,"
the blind girl pleads and bursts into
sobs.
My heart clenches at the sight. I might go overboard with my temper
at times, but I am not truly evil. It's my
first time having a blind person
begging me.
"Your brother is trying to challenge me, his helper," despite my anger, my voice is a bit calm when I address the fifteen-year-old.
"Please just listen to me, he's not like this," Darcy continues defending her brother, "you took us in, and you've
been nothing but kind to us. Don't get the wrong impression about Theodore.
"Then why the sudden change?" I
question her further.
And when Darcy attempts to speak, Theodore beats her to it.
"Because you have what's mine, Alpha
Calhoun," He yells at the top of his lungs.
