Chapter 141 Game Of Alphas (VI)
Calhoun's POV
I have never seen anyone so scared for my sake. Had I known Kristen had the intent of coming here today, I would have tied her and
locked her up if possible. The fear in her eyes is enough to make me weak but on the contrary, it strengthens me to do more.
I passed the stage of swimming with sharks and managed to pass two more stages. Some Alphas who weren't brave enough to continue deliberately failed so they would get disqualified, upon figuring the game was getting horrible. Being the Alpha of Alphas required a lot.
Climbing through nets that have hard sharp hooks underneath.
Falling off led to death, because the hooks were soaked with black bane poison.
The fifth round was more of a puzzle, jumping and sliding to avoid barbells.
A few Alphas got their bones broken, and lost their front teeth. So far, five Alphas have died. It's a great loss to their packs and families but these Alphas already knew what they were getting into from the beginning.
Ben Gregory, the annoying shit escaped from the pool of sharks earlier, while everyone was swimming to win, he ran for his dear life. This was a bit amusing to me because he made me bleed so I would get eaten by sharks, only for him to run away when we were halfway through with the third level.
Currently, we're at the sixth stage and we're just seven Alphas remaining. These six Alpha's with me are as well powerful and not willing to back out of the Game Of Alphas since each of them would like to enjoy all the benefits of being Alpha of Alphas all over the East.
The sixth Round ended with just four Alphas remaining.
And the audience burst into cheers, celebrating us even though we've had dead and injured people.
"Calhoun! Calhoun! Calhoun!" Men and women from my pack and chanting my name. They even customized banners for me.
This is enough to strengthen me but I can't find Kristen anywhere. She's not at the spot where I saw her earlier. Even Bruce is out of sight.
Did something go wrong?
Kristen left because she couldn't watch me risking my life anymore. I am perplexed right now.
My worry for Kristen is cut short when we're instructed to shift.
The running is about to begin at this point.
I puff out a big breath before letting my wolf take over.
Kristen's POV
Am I even fit to be a mother? Aiden got hurt and passed out, yet I couldn't go to him, all because his father was having a near-death experience.
Bruce has texted me that my son is awake and he's currently getting tended to by one of our pack doctors. When I texted him back, asking if Aiden was crying, he didn't respond. And then I needed no one to inform me about my son bawling.
The Game of Alphas is already at the finals, with Calhoun and another Alpha standing in the fighting Arena. I am still not relieved because he's as powerful as Calhoun.
What's more upsetting is the fact that females are screaming at Calhoun's naked upper body. They find his big build attractive. He's the only shirtless person between him and the other Alpha. Calhoun still has his torn shirt tied around his bleeding arm.
I find a spot to sit, wondering if Aiden's condition is worse than I think and at the same time, so afraid for Calhoun's sake.
If he emerges as the winner again, I'll talk him out of participating in this game next year. To think it's a yearly ritual for him to risk his life, all in the name of maintaining his position as Alpha of Alphas. To hell with it.
The cheering for Calhoun dies down when someone beats a drum to gain silence.
It's obvious my mate will fight this powerful-looking Alpha with him. They're handing them tools to fight. Calhoun is given chains while the other Alpha is given a sledgehammer.
My knees are getting wobbly and weak, and it's hard to remain still. Calhoun is strong but this man seems fully prepared for this fight, with the way he's swinging his sledgehammer and glaring at
Calhoun.
Calhoun wraps the chains around his hand, if he's afraid he doesn't show it. The expression on his face is neutral.
Right at the moment they're instructed to fight, I put my hand on my face to shield my eyes from it, because I am too chicken to watch another man lunging at Calhoun with a sledgehammer.
And my heart keeps racing in my chest. Had I known, I would have listened to Janette when she warned me to stay back. Both Maddy and Sapphire laughed when I told them I would contest in the Game of Alphas. The West's Game Of Alphas is a lot different from this one. This is way too brutal, something most people couldn't stomach when the sharks were eating the Alphas in the pool.
When I flick my eyes open, I find Calhoun already on the floor, bleeding and crawling aback with his elbows. While the other Alpha is approaching him with the sledgehammer.
It's such a painful sight to withhold.
At this point, getting all worked up won't solve anything, rather
praying to the moon goddess to help him is the only solution.
I clasp my hands together, ignoring all the moving voices in my head
that keep telling me Calhoun won't make it.
Calhoun's opponent swings his sledgehammer at Calhoun once
more, and Calhoun quickly swerves.
This continues for a few more seconds until Calhoun's hand reaches
for his chains once more, and he's able to slam it against his
opponent.
When the man loses his balance and drops to the floor, Calhoun starts strangling him with the chain.
The man tries to free his neck from the chain, but Calhoun's grip on
it is super tight. His veins are bulging along his neck as he uses all of
his might to strangle his opponent.
The man struggles until he starts coughing out blood.
And when Calhoun releases his neck from the chain, he passes out.
Upon seeing this, the crowd bursts into cheers, chanting Calhoun's
name and screaming at the top of their lungs.
Oh my god, he won.
Rather than being victorious, I am relieved.
Upon leaving my seat, I tear through that crowd and dash towards
him.
"Calhoun!" A dull pain spreads through my chest when he reverts his head to capture my eyes.
The look on his face shows that he wants to come to me, but because
he's badly injured, he cannot.
The guards in front pave the way for me, fully aware that I am
Calhoun's mate.
At last, I get to his side and pull him into a bone-crushing embrace.
The tears which I had been holding earlier on, come out in a rush as sobs tear right out of my throat.
Calhoun's large body trembles as I cradle his back while hugging him.
"Kristen..."
"Don't ever do this again, Calhoun... I can't afford to lose you." I implore amidst my sobs.
And Calhoun pulls away from the hug just to examine my face. He's
bleeding so much right now, half of his face is already battered from the sledgehammer, and I know he'll heal within a day, still, it's so
heartbreaking.
"Promise me, Calhoun."
And he tucks my hair behind my hair, before thinning his lips and staring at me with all the love in his eyes.
Enveloped by my wavering emotions, I hug him tighter.
