Chapter 219: Matters of the Past
Chapter 219: Matters of the Past
In the second-floor lounge of the banquet hall, Rhiannon held Adeline's hand, unable to take her eyes off her. "Adeline, I have to thank you for secretly sending me desserts all this time." she said, patting Adeline's hand, her eyes full of affection. "Good child. If Ronald bullies you again, you tell me, and I'll stand up for you." She then glared at Ronald. Even Elysia didn't dare to say a word.
"He didn't bully me." Adeline said, her face flushed, her head lowered in embarrassment.
Ronald remained calm. "Grandma, don't worry. I will definitely not bully her."
"I think you will." Rhiannon said, glancing at him with dissatisfaction. "I've said it before, the Murphy family is no good." Seeing Elysia's expression turn sour, she sighed. "Forget it. Since the truth is out, I won't say any more. Ronald handled it well this time. As for my doctor." she paused, "Avalonia has many excellent doctors. Don't cooperate with the Murphy family anymore."
"Grandma, I understand." Ronald said, nodding seriously. "Mom and I will go socialize first. Adeline, please take care of Grandma."
"Okay, you go. I'm here," Adeline said, nodding, her eyes full of smiles.
After they left, Rhiannon looked tired. Adeline quickly poured her a glass of water. "You should rest for a while. Do you need to take your medicine now?"
Rhiannon shook her head. After a while, she said, "Adeline, actually, your grandmother and I were good friends. Nancy was also a person who never gave up. It wasn't easy for her to raise your mother and your aunt by herself."
"You knew my grandmother?" Adeline's gaze fell on her earrings.
Rhiannon took off the earrings and placed them in her hand. "You're a jewelry designer. You should be able to tell that our earrings are made from the same emerald, right? This was a birthday gift from your grandmother. We each have a pair."
Speaking of the past, Rhiannon's voice was a little hoarse. "She was a good person, my best friend. But..." She didn't continue, but Adeline could imagine it was a sad story. Sandra rarely mentioned Nancy, only saying that she was a very gentle and determined person who also loved jewelry design. That was why Sandra had also become a jewelry designer and married Ryder, another jewelry designer.
Looking at Adeline, Rhiannon felt as if she were seeing her old friend again. They talked for a long time. When they talked about Ronald's childhood, Rhiannon's face flushed with color. "Do you remember? Your family used to live next door to me. My health wasn't good back then. I was sick all the time. By the time I came back, you and Ronald had become good friends. You played with him every day."
"Lived next door to you?" Adeline was stunned. She suddenly thought of something, her eyes widening in disbelief. "Is it the villa with the basement and the large storeroom?" Childhood memories came flooding back. Adeline subconsciously touched her wrist. She seemed to remember Ryder giving her a pink crystal bracelet for her birthday one year. But the bracelet disappeared after she grew up. Ryder gave her many other gifts later, but she didn't remember.
Could the bracelet Ronald had been keeping all this time be hers? So, Ronald was the little boy she had been dreaming about?
"Yes, you forgot? You hid when you were about to move. If Ronald hadn't found you, your parents would have been worried sick." Rhiannon smiled, but her expression turned sad again. "If you hadn't seen me, maybe you wouldn't have had to move."
Adeline was too shocked to hear the last part of her sentence. Ronald was the little boy she had been thinking about all this time. The bracelet he treasured wasn't someone else's, but hers?
Until the end of the banquet, when Ronald drove her home, Adeline was still in a daze. "Adeline, what's wrong?" Ronald led her into the apartment and pressed her against the wall. "You've been distracted all evening. What did Grandma say to you?" He kissed her lips. "Was it about our wedding? Are you overjoyed?"
"Ronald, the pink crystal bracelet..." Adeline looked up, her eyes flustered. "Whose pink crystal bracelet is in your lounge?"
"Yours." Ronald said, his smile widening as he kissed her fiercely. He didn't let go until she was breathless. "Adeline, that bracelet is yours. I just found out too." He held her tightly, inhaling her familiar scent, his mood soaring.
Only Ronald's friends knew that he had always had a little girl in his heart. It was strange, but he had always remembered such a small thing. The little girl who followed him around every day and said she wanted to be his bride when she grew up. But she had left.
The day the Smith family moved, everyone was looking for Adeline. He was looking too. He had even thought that it would be better if he couldn't find her, so she could stay at his house forever. But he had found the crying little girl and led her away.
He had dreamed of that scene countless times. The little girl curled up in a corner, her eyes finally lighting up when she saw him. That was why he had been attracted to Adeline at first sight, why he had followed her without hesitation, why he had decided to date and marry her. Everything had started in childhood.
Ronald held Adeline tightly. "So, Adeline, our meeting was inevitable, not accidental. You were always meant to be mine."
Something exploded in Adeline's mind. She looked at Ronald, and he looked at her. It was unclear who kissed first. The kiss grew more passionate. There were no more restraints, no more worries. They could finally belong to each other completely.
The next day, Adeline woke up with a sore back. Ronald had already made breakfast. "Morning. You worked hard yesterday." he said, a suggestive love bite on his neck, but he was in high spirits.
Adeline took a sip of milk and rubbed her lower back. "No more of this on workdays!" she grumbled, feeling like her body was about to fall apart. She had meetings all day. It would be embarrassing if she couldn't even walk straight.
Ronald came over to massage her back and asked with a smile, "So, it's okay on vacation?"
Adeline glared at him. Just as she was about to say something, her phone rang urgently.
As soon as she answered, she heard Elisa's sharp voice. "Adeline, check the trending news! Did the Williams family get rich by killing your grandmother? Do you know what's going on?"
