Chapter 218: Rhiannon's Handle
Chapter 218: Rhiannon's Handle
The rumors were quelled, and Allen was once again taken to the police station for questioning.
Ronald relentlessly suppressed the Jones Group. Edwin swallowed his pride and went to Opulent Treasures several times to beg, but he never even saw Ronald.
Everyone knew that Adeline was Ronald's girlfriend, and they were even more attentive to her. It got to the point where Adeline tried to avoid going anywhere but her office.
She was also very busy these days. Ronald's grandmother, Rhiannon, was being discharged from the hospital, and a banquet was being held to celebrate. Rhiannon loved a good party, and Ronald had specifically asked Adeline to plan it. Adeline had tried to decline several times, but when Elysia even brought her and Ronald's outfits, she couldn't refuse.
The banquet was very grand. Almost everyone in their circle came to show their support. Rhiannon's influence was significant, and since she hadn't appeared in public for many years, many people wanted to connect with her. If they could get in with Opulent Treasures, even better.
To Adeline's surprise, Gemma was also there. It had only been a few days, but Gemma had lost a lot of weight and looked haggard. Her gaze, however, was still as cold as ever when she looked at Adeline.
When Adeline went to the restroom, Gemma hurried after her. "Adeline, stop right there!"
Adeline was annoyed at being stopped, but she still asked politely, "Ms. Murphy, is there something I can help you with?"
There were few people in the hallway, so Gemma didn't have to pretend anymore. She stepped forward, her tone turning sinister. "Adeline, do you think you've won? I'm carrying Ronald's child. When I give birth, he'll have to acknowledge it whether he wants to or not!" She clutched her stomach as if there really were a child inside.
She had seen it clearly. Everyone had accepted Adeline as Ronald's fiancée. They all complimented her, just as they used to compliment Gemma. Gemma had now been marginalized by her family. The new company had nothing to do with her. If this continued, she would have nothing left.
She took a deep breath, a hint of self-satisfaction in her voice. "Adeline, you can't beat me. When the child is born..."
"When the child is born, we'll do a DNA test. " Adeline interrupted. "Ms. Murphy, I trust Ronald. He wouldn't cheat. If you're really sure the child is his, then give birth, and the Williams family will give you an answer."
When Gemma first brought this up, Ronald had already explained it. Adeline didn't believe her. If she really were pregnant with Ronald's child, she would have gone to Ronald's elders, not Adeline. If the child were Ronald's, Elysia would have been the first to confront Adeline. The result was obvious: Gemma was lying.
"Who does the Williams family need to give an answer to?" An old lady walked over with a smile. When Gemma saw her, she instinctively stood up straight. "Grandma, didn't you say you'd be here later?"
"Ms. Murphy, please call me Ms. Stewart. " Rhiannon said with a gentle smile, but her tone was cold. "After all, we're just acquaintances. It's not appropriate for you to call me that." She took Adeline's hand. "Adeline, is everything taken care of? I want to introduce you to some friends. Shall we go?"
"Donut Granny?" Adeline looked at Rhiannon, suddenly feeling embarrassed. So Donut Granny was Ronald's grandmother, Rhiannon. She had said she wanted her grandson to marry Adeline. Didn't that mean her grandson was Ronald? Adeline's face grew redder as she thought about how she had often gone to Donut Granny to talk about her relationship problems.
Rhiannon linked her arm with hers and smiled. "I didn't know you were Ronald's girlfriend. What I said before doesn't count. My grandson is a good person. Don't break up with him, don't break up."
"We didn't break up." Adeline said in a small voice.
When Rhiannon and she appeared at the banquet together, those who had thought Adeline would never marry into the Williams family now understood that Adeline was the one the Williams family had approved of. In the Williams family, no one had a higher status than Rhiannon.
Rhiannon also generously introduced Adeline as Ronald's girlfriend and her good friend. "This brooch was designed by Adeline. Isn't it beautiful? A first-prize winner at Olympia, of course she's different."
"I used to think my grandson was excellent, but comparing him to Adeline, I realize it's better to have a granddaughter."
"Whether they get married depends on Ronald's performance. Ronald is a blockhead when it comes to relationships. Adeline, you have to test him well."
Without realizing it, Adeline had become the focus of the banquet. Many people there had investigated Adeline's background and had hoped to meet Rhiannon and introduce their daughters for a possible marriage alliance. Now, Rhiannon's attitude made it clear: they had no chance.
Gemma tried to interject several times, but Rhiannon ignored her. Even when she went to Elysia, Elysia only exchanged a few polite words, no longer as enthusiastic as before. Everyone could see the Williams family's attitude, which gave Gemma an even greater sense of crisis. She left the banquet in a daze, not wanting to see everyone fawning over Adeline anymore.
Hearing a car horn behind her, she turned around. Allen had stopped his car in front of her. "Ms. Murphy, I've thought about it. The cooperation you mentioned is no problem. Get in and let's talk?"
Gemma clutched her phone, finally nodding through gritted teeth. "Okay!" The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Her best friend now was Allen!
Allen took her to the mall's underground parking lot. "Ms. Murphy, you don't have any useful information. You're not really pregnant. You can't threaten Adeline and Ronald."
Gemma wasn't pregnant. She hadn't even had the chance to get close to Ronald. But when Ronald was abroad, he had been so tired once that he had stayed at her place. She had thought she could get away with it. Unfortunately, Adeline didn't believe her. Where was she supposed to find Ronald's child?
"Then do you have anything on Adeline? If you did, you would have used it by now!" Gemma snorted. "Weren't we supposed to be cooperating? Show me your sincerity."
"I don't have anything on Adeline, but I have something on Rhiannon." Allen said, lighting a cigarette, his voice tinged with pleasure. "Rhiannon and Adeline's grandmother were very good friends. They acquired two pink diamonds abroad, worth tens of millions of dollars at the time. But only Rhiannon started a jewelry company, because both diamonds were in her hands."
"Are you saying Rhiannon stole the diamonds? Adeline's family wasn't that rich. Maybe they sold them to her." Gemma said, shaking her head, not thinking it was much of a leverage.
Allen suddenly laughed. "Buying the diamonds is nothing. But what if Adeline's grandmother's death was suspicious?"
