Chapter – 4

Third Person’s POV

The door of OT opened and the doctor came out. Vedika, Jay and Aditya approached her.

The doctor took off her surgical mask and looked at them with a serious expression which made their heart tremble in fear. They were not ready for any bad news.

“Sorry, Mr Chatham. We couldn’t save your child.”- The doctor said very professionally.

The word child shocked everyone except Aditya and Granny. They were shocked to find out that Jeevika was pregnant.

Though Aditya had no idea about it but he guessed it when he saw so much blood on the lower part of Jeevika's body.

Hearing the news he was sad. He lost his unborn child about whom he had no idea. But seeing the amount of blood he had already presumed this result. So he was not as shocked as others. But he was feeling pain.

ADITYA : What about my wife, doctor? How is she?

“ I am sorry…We tried our best, Mr. Chauhan. But due to loss of a huge amount of blood, she has slipped into a coma.”

Aditya stumbled upon hearing this news from the doctor. He didn’t expect this. He was not ready for this. No one was ready to handle the news present there.

Vedika started crying very loudly holding her husband, Jay. Tears were rolling from his eyes also.

NANDITA : When will she wake up, doctor?

“I can not say about it accurately. It can be 1 hour or 1 year. Even it can be more than one year.”

“She will be shifted to the ward shortly. I will meet you guys there.”

Saying all this in a very professional tone the doctor left leaving the heartbroken family behind.

Aditya's POV

Coma! Why? God, why? Did you not listen to my prayer because I am an atheist? But Jeevika, she believes you. Every day she goes to the temple. Then why? God, why?

She lost a huge amount of blood…I wish I picked up her call. If I had picked up the call, we could have brought her the hospital fast. She certainly wouldn’t lose this much blood. Maybe…maybe my unborn child would have been saved. It was all my fault. She called me for help, but I ignored her calls. When my wife needed me the most I was not there.

My trance broke hearing my son's cry. He must have been woken up by Vedika aunty's cry. Seeing him Vedika aunty started crying more. She also must be feeling very guilty for not letting Jay uncle pick up Jeevika's call.

No god, you can punish me. You can not hear my prayers but what about my little son? You can not be so cruel to him. He needs his mother. How can you let her slip into a coma? No…no…no…Jeevika has to wake up.

Hearing Ayu's cry I am feeling so vulnerable. Why did something like this happen to my peaceful life? Why? My life was so perfect. I have a beautiful, kind wife…a cute little son. Then why god?

Suddenly Ayu starts screaming while calling his Mumma. His every call for Mumma is breaking my heart. I moved toward Ms. Priya who is holding Ayu and trying to calm him. I forward my hand to take him in my arms but to my surprise, my Granny stops me.

GRANNY (Asha Chauhan) : Don't you dare to touch him!

I am shocked by Granny's words. What does she mean? I opened my mouth to speak something but her one look stopped me.

She is looking at me angrily. But besides anger, I can see disappointment. But why?

Is she disappointed with me because I didn’t pick up Jeevika's call? That is not possible how will she know? Is she blaming me for Jeevika's condition? But it was an accident – actually I don’t know, how it happened. I didn’t get that much time to check. Ayu has been crying also, so I didn’t find the chance to ask him anything. Maybe Jeevika had fallen from some high place. The injury on her forehead indicates that. I will only know about everything clearly after going home. But now that is not important. Now the important thing is when will she wake up?

------------------

We all are in the ward where Jeevika is lying unconscious on the bed with so many machines attached to her body. Her head is covered with a bandage. Only beeping sounds of the machine can be heard in the room. Vedika aunty has stopped crying. She is just quietly looking at Jeevika and silent tears are falling.

Ms. Priya has taken Ayu to the washroom, he hasn’t seen Jeevika yet. I can’t even assume how he will react, seeing his mother like this.

Doctor is now checking Jeevika. It’s been some hours but there is no sign of her waking up.

Third Person’s POV

After checking Jeevika one more time, the doctor looked at all the family members.

“ I don’t think she will wake up soon. There is no sign of her waking up. But miracle happens. So let’s just hope for the miracle.”

The little hope they had all vanished hearing doctors words. Vedika again started crying. No one has ever seen this vulnerable Vedika.

GRANNY : is there anything we can do, doctor?

“Yes, of course. She can hear you all. So try to talk with her as much as possible. Don’t keep her alone. Make her understand how much you all need her.”

Saying this the doctor explained them about all the machine. How they can understand the rate of her heartbeat. Which rate indicate what and many other things.

Just the doctor finished her explanation, Ms Priya enter the room with Ayu. Seeing his mother Ayush became excited and wanted to go near her.

Granny took Ayush near Jeevika's bed.

GRANNY : Ayu, my darling, tell your mumma how much you need her… tell her who will teach you everything if she sleeps here?

Ayush didn’t understand anything but he understand his mother is sleeping and not giving any respond to him.

AYUSH : Mumma…mumma…

Aayush said in her childish voice with sobbing tone. Seeing Ayush everyone felt sad.

GRANNY : No, my darling… don’t cry. You mumma will wake up very soon… right Jivi? You will wake up… right? You have to wake up, dear. If you don’t wake up who will fight for your son? Who will teach him everything? This world is cruel, honey…you have to make our Ayu strong. You have to teach her everything. Otherwise, he will be left behind. No one will understand his condition.

ADITYA: Condition? What condition?
