Chapter – 3

Aditya’s POV

In the silent corridor of the hospital, only my son’s ear-piercing cries can be heard. Some nurses have already requested us to calm him, as it is a hospital; his high-pitched cry is creating a disturbance. But no one can pacify him. He has been crying continuously. I tried to pacify him but he was not even staying in my arms. Now my father-in-law is trying to cradle him but it is not working. Everyone has been trying to soothe him but all in vain. Maybe he has gotten very scared. Who wouldn’t? Entering the room the scene we had seen, it has shocked us to the core.

Flashback

The moment the door of our penthouse opened, the sound of Ayu's cries got more loud and clear. I have never heard my son cries like this. Though I have rarely seen him awake but still.

We had just set foot in the living room when we saw Jeevika, my wife laying on the floor in the pool of blood. And my son was seating beside her figure crying holding her hand. There was also traces of blood on his clothes. It was difficult to tell whether he was also hurt or not.

My wife was lying lifeless on the floor, blood was oozing out from her forehead and she was also bleeding from the lower part of her body which shocked me even more. Because so much blood from the lower part of her body was only indicating one thing that may be my wife was pregnant.

My mind wasn't working. I was standing still looking at my wife's unconscious body. My whole body was feeling numb. The scene in front of me had broken my heart into pieces. I came to my senses when my mom nudged me.

Without hearing anything, without waiting for the ambulance, I picked up my wife's unconscious body in bridal style and walked towards the entrance.

My son wasn’t ready to leave her mother's hand. Mr. Jay, Jeevika's father separated Ayush with much effort.

When I reached downstairs the ambulance had already arrived. The paramedics put Jeevika in the ambulance and started their initial treatment. My son was crying very badly to be with his mother, so I took her with me and got in the ambulance.

Flashback END

I have never prayed to God. I have never wanted anything from him. But today I want…I want him to save my wife.

Please God…please save my wife. If not for me at least for my little child. He still hasn't stopped crying. He has been crying for hours. I tried to take him in my arms but he did not come.

I go near Ayu who is on uncle Jay's lap.

ADITYA : Son, come to me…please stop crying.

Ayush doesn’t even look at me. He is crying continuously and clinging to uncle Jay.

I don’t know what to do. I am feeling very helpless at this moment. Ayush’s expression is clearly indicating that he has become tired of crying but he isn’t ready to stop. Maybe he is thinking if he continues crying his mother will come to him. Only God knows what he is thinking.

Vedika aunty aka Jeevika's mother is weeping continuously while sitting on a chair in the corridor. My mom is trying to console her but like my son, her tears are also not stopping.

When we are all feeling helpless seeing Ayu crying like this, we don’t understand what to do, right at this moment my granny arrives sitting in her wheelchair with her butler.

It has been many years since my Granny can not walk. In an accident, she lost her legs and also her husband. But she didn’t break down. She is the strongest woman I have ever seen. I used to spend a lot of time with her in my childhood.

The older I am getting, the shorter I am spending time with her. I hardly recall when was the last time I meet with her. Maybe in some family function years ago.

Ignoring us all Granny goes near Uncle and took Ayu in her lap. To our surprise, within some seconds Ayu calmed down. We had been trying to pacify him for more than an hour but he didn’t quiet down for a single second. But in granny's lap, he calmed down within some seconds. We are all surprised.

My father approaches Granny and asks her how she has found out about Jeevika's situation. But she ignores his questions and indicates to him to keep quiet as she was trying to make Ayu fall asleep.

Ayu looks very drowsy but still, he is not ready to sleep. He has stopped crying but sometimes he is whimpering. Maybe remembering his mother's condition.

I am more shocked or I can say I am a little hurt when I saw Ms. Priya, my Granny’s butler takes Ayu in her arms and made him fall asleep by swaying him for some time in her lap.

I am hurt because he is sleeping comfortably, keeping his head on Ms. Priya's shoulder. Whereas he was so restless in our arms. I assumed maybe because he has become exhausted from crying so much. Yeah, that must be the reason.

I also want to ask Granny who has told her about us being in the hospital but before I can ask anything the door of the OT is opened and the doctor comes out.

Vedika aunty, Jay Uncle, dad, and I approach the doctor. The doctor takes off her surgical mask and looks at us with a very serious expression.

In my mind, I am continuously chanting god's names as much as I know. I don’t even leave any god from any religion. I am not ready to hear any bad news. I am not that strong to handle it.

I am hoping the doctor to say that everything is fine.

But within some seconds my fear became true. Hearing the doctor’s words, I felt like someone was squeezing my heart.

“Sorry Mr. Chauhan, we couldn’t save your………”
