Chapter 60 Calls!

Chapter 60 Calls!
Alessia's POV
The plane slowly descends, the wheels released. I take calming breaths, still trying to calm my mind, body and soul after the devastating kiss I shared with Alex earlier. It’s like he is teasing me with what is to come, and if a kiss only can get me all aflame like that, then what will happen when he takes me? Shuddering, I take another deep breath, trying to take my mind off him and my dirty thoughts. Lifting my rosary, I clutch it tight, kissing it. Oh Dios Mio, protect me from my thoughts.

Slowly the wheels land with a soft thud and race slowly down the tarmac before it comes to a stop, and the exit sign flares up. Luca is already unbuckling his seat belt.

“Luca, where is the fire?” I ask, laughing.

He groans. “I cannot wait to get out and stretch my legs,” he pauses, stretching his hands and getting a whiff of fresh air.

“Neither can I, Luca.” I reach for my seat belt as Alex brushes my hands away gently.

“Let me, cara mia.” I watch him as he unbuckles my seat belt, a rush of warmth filling my chest. For a mafia kingpin, he is such a softie.

He unbuckles his own and gets up, stretching his arms as he gives me a hand. “Come on.”

I accept, getting up and heading to the exit. I turn around and see Angelica following up slowly, as if she is hoping if she moves slow we will forget her on the plane and walk off.

I face the front as we step onto the exit gate and gently descend the steps. The fresh warm air hits my face and the smell of the fuel being refilled. Workers are moving around the plane, shouting instructions to each other in organised chaos.

I lift my head up, never happier to see the sun.

Alex turns his phone on, and a barrage of notifications come in, making him flinch.

I turn around to check on Angelica as she stays way behind us, eyes on the ground, keeping to our shadows, wearing a shawl.

As we walk towards the convenience store, I notice two men in black suits standing near the gate. I hear Angelica’s slight catch of breath. I whip my head quickly to catch a flash of fear in her face before she ducks down again.

Interesting.

I can’t wait to speak to Alex about this. Glancing at him, he is distracted as a phone call comes in, and he answers as we step into the convenience shop.

Luca gets a basket and starts filling it in as I carry some water and place it in Luca’s basket. Angelica picks up some crackers and cheese, placing it in the basket, her fingers trembling slightly. Luca turns the next aisle, and we follow close behind as we run into a man in white on a mobile, whispering something in Italian. Angelica turns pale for a moment and tightens her hold on her bag as if it holds a weapon. I turn to Alex again, hoping he had at least noticed that, but unfortunately he seems to be on a call with his mama.

I hear her muffled voice complaining,

“Why did you travel without coming to the house? Isabella wouldn’t stop worrying and neither will I!”

I scoff. Of course it’s about Isabella.

Alex rubs his temple.

“Mama, calm down. I can’t talk about this right now.”

She continues, her voice loud enough for me to hear.

“It’s not fair that you just do things without considering us, your family. You act like you have no one!”

“Let’s talk later, Mama.” Alex ends the call, and before he can take a deep breath, another call comes in.

He curses. “Merde!”

“Sylvia, talk to me.”

I hear him say something about shipment. It’s harder to hear him as he is not as loud as Alex’s mum, so I turn around to Luca and Angelica to find them on the queue, baskets filled up. I approach them slowly.

“Are you done?” I ask Luca spying the huge mountain of snacks.

“Yes, this should be enough for now,” he nods.

Angelica stands quietly by his side, tucking her hair into her shawl, trying to be invisible.

I watch Luca as he nudges Angelica.

“ Are you good? You look very pale as a ghost”.

Angelica nervously tucks her hair into her shawl once more and forces a smile. “ It's nothing, I have low blood sugar…”

Luca unwraps a candy bar and hands it to her “Here eat this” She pauses before accepting it “Grazie Luca” and taking small bites .

Alex walks over to join us as he says,

“Who are they looking for?” I turn to him, eyebrows furrowed. This sounds important.

I don’t hear what is said on the other end.

“Handle it, Anto. Beef up security,” and Alex hangs up. As he pockets the phone, taking deep breaths through his teeth.

I ask Alex softly, “were you expecting a shipment?.”

Alex sighs “ I always have shipments coming in to keep business flowing, but Sylvia should be up to the task”

He mutters under his breath “ I take one trip and all hell breaks loose.” I say nothing to this as Luca pays, and we step out of the convenience store with the bags of goodies as his phone starts ringing once more.

Oh Dios, here we go again. It's like it never stops ringing . Someone always needs to speak to him for one reason or the other.

He reluctantly fishes the phone out of his pocket as we reach the tarmac. Ferrini Mansion flashes on the screen, and he quickly answers, putting it on speaker.

“Mama, I told you…”

“Signor Ferrini” Andres worried voice wafts through the phone, he pauses “ I just wanted to let you know that Thomas Sirrano is here… talking with Margerita and Isabella…”

We all suck in a deep shocked breath.
