Chapter 130 Council Chambers
Alessia’s POV
The Private council chambers feels smaller than I remembered but that might be because on the first night I didn't pay much attention to the room I was too caught up in the snippets of information Enya was sharing with me. The doors slide shut behind us and Enya remains at the entrance for a few minutes, casting a spell to make the room sound proof I presume. All of a sudden a hear a pop as if the room is immersed in water.
I watch her as she settles at the head of the white oak table her hands folded on top. Orzo doesn't join us yet he remains by the window staring out into the dark night. Melissa, Indie and Frederic are seated quietly watching me like I am a specimen in a lab. I am flanked by Angelica and Alex while Luca is on the far right. He does not touch me but I feel his presence accutely.
“You wanted to ask me some more questions about your mother?” Enya dives right into it and I appreciate that.
No dilly Dallying tonight
Letting out a deep breath I nod
“Yes Enya.” Straightening I cut to the chase too
“I know My mother was a witch and part of this coven. I am also aware of the fact that she left here with me willingly.” Pausing I lean back in my chair for a moment “But I do not know who my father is.I can barely remember fragments of him.” I recall a tall shadow of a Man that was only home occasionally always buying me and Mom gifts but for the life of me I can't remember his face. The room falls silent for a while. Enya looks at me as if she is trying to figure out how to answer me without me loosing my cool.
“Your father was not a wizard” I gasp “He was a human.”
\-So the apple does not fall to far from the tree.
\-Is that why she thought Frederic will be a good idea for me?
\-Big Mistake Mom, huge
“My mother used to say he was a sea Man and one day he went to see and never returned” I say quietly remembering with fondness the sea tales she used to tell me at night about my absentee father.
“She never told you his name?”Orzo asks as he approaches the table finally sitting next to his wife.
“No she never did” I said “but the truth is I dont think I asked. I just listened to the tales that made him seem larger than life.”
“His name was Gabreal” Enya says at last.
\-The name isn't one I am familiar with
“Gabreal.”
“Your father was not a wizard” Melissa adds “But he was a strong, fearless, Mafia man. He knew what he was walking into.”
“Love will always conquer all” I whisper
Thinking about my own situation with Alex and how we met. It's ironic how life works out.
“Yes.” Enya says “It will… always.”
My chest feels tight all of a sudden as I reach a hand to rub circles around it distractedly..
“So if they were happy here why did they run?” I ask
It's not adding up
I was a child wouldn't the coven have been the safest place for me?
Unless they were running from something or someone?
My heart sinks in my chest could she have known something was coming? Something dangerous perhaps?
“They did not run” Orzo cuts in defensively “they decided to move to human territory.”
\-I guess it's different than what I thought but still I have this burning curiosity to find out why.
“Your mother was in love with a Human and grew tired of Coven life and politics” Enya continues “there was a lot of talks about the prophesies, about what your birth could mean.”
\-I sit up in my chair
\-My stomach twists in knots
\-So I wasn't far from the truth
“So she decided it will be better for me to live a normal human life?”
“Margo -Your Mother and Gabreal agreed, they wanted you to have a normal life. Away from all of this” she waves around with her hands gesturing around the hall.
“And you didn't try and stop her?” Enyas eyes sharpen on me for a moment “Who am I to try and stop your mother?she wasn't mother someone that can be stopped from doing anything she set out to do. She told us and left.”
\-Heh that does sound like her
\-Unwavering when she has decided on something
“Did she ever visit the coven?” I murmur
\-I know she couldn't have working full-time at the Sirranos but I have to ask.
Enya shakes her head sadly looking into the distance “No she never did.”
“Why do you think?” I ask curious to hear her thoughts on it. A flicker of annoyance passes on Enyas expression before she hides it but not before I caught sight off it.
I must have touched a nerve
Oh well, sorry not sorry.
She doesn't like the questions I am asking today from the looks of it but do I care?
No
“She probably felt if she came back we will try and intervene to make her stay. Plus she didn't want certain families taking an interest in you.”
\-I doubt if you would have been able to sway her
“Me? Why would they be interested in me?”I ask incredulously. I mean Mother has bound my powers so to all intent and purposes I would have been a magic less baby.
Silence settles in the room, I hold in to Angelica tightly trying to ground myself before I loose my mind.
“Do you think she has planned to eventually tell me about all this?” I ask
That's what is circling my head right now. “If she had lived when had she planned to tell me?”
“I am sure she planned to” Melissa adds gently “But she most probably felt the timing was not right.”
Timing
Hmm she kept waiting for the right time until her time run out!
“Do you have a photo of my mum and dad together?” I ask suddenly wanting to see what he looked like.
Enya pauses then turns to Melissa “Check on the bookshelf third book from left.”
Shocked, My heart starts to pound as I watch Melissa reach for the bookshelf. I turn to Angelica then Alex exchanging wary looks. So if I had never asked, they would not have a shown me?
What's it with these coven members and hoarding relevant information?
