Chapter 129 Demand for answers
Alessia’s POV
I sneak a look at Alex and his entire focus is on Enya. If looks could kill Enya will be dead by now but she doesn't even notice to busy trying to play cupid for Frederic.
Rubbish
Turning to Enya she tilts her head at me a challenging look in her eyes “So Princess, you still will not sweep it under the rug?”
I curse under my breath…
I really need to be praying for patience to be able to deal with these people.
“No Enya with all due respect” I cut in gently “I will not and I will advise you to stop bringing it up during meal times”
A shocked gasp escapes a few council members as they excahnge looks and i ignire them. I am sure no one even Her dear husband dares to speak to he the way I do.
Frederic shifts in his chair for a moment “Alessia I didn't mean-” I silence him “Frederic nothing you say will make me change my mind so dont bother”
Coward
He is so lucky I need to learn all I can from them if not.
He can burn in hell for all Icare
“Do not get me wrong I am grateful for the photo.” I turn to him briefly “but you tricked me and that is not cool it is also not something I can easily let go of.” Slowly returning my attention to Enya I watch as she exchanges a look with Orzo then turns back to me a fake smile on her face. “Princess In our coven ,you must be-”
“My answer remains the same No” My response comes out sharper than I had planned .This time heat is stirring in my belly
Surging
Spreading
Ready to attack
Angelica squeezes my hand once more, a bit harder .My eyes must be flashing gold
I take a deep breath as my fire settles back in my belly
Blinking slowly
I put a fake smile on my face
“I just want you to understand” I say lightly as I reach for some water taking a few sips “The next time someone tries to test me in this coven they will regret it.”
Enyas gaze remains on me for a full minute then she nods “I have taken note.”
You had better
Let them think over that
I lift my fork to continue eating as the low hum of conversation continues in the hall then I remember something.
“Enya”
I turn to her once more
She looks at me warily probably wondering what it is this time “Yes Princess, is there something else?”
“I will appreciate it if we could have another meeting.” That gets all the council members' attention they exchange looks. Frederic tenses while Orzo’s eyes narrow ,Enya lowers her hand to her side “About what Princess?”
I turn to her “About my mother Princess Margo Molano”
Frederic, Melissa and Indie exchange looks
Angelica’s hands reaches for my thigh under the table, a silent support from an anchor, warmth fills me, grounding me.
“In hindsight” I continue “I don't think my first night was the appropriate time for me to ask questions.” I pause for a moment my mind flashing back to how scared and overwhelmed I felt that day. “There are a few questions I didn't ask that I should have”
Enya eyes study me with curiosity “And you believe you are ready for those answers now?” She asks calmly.
That's how she scared me the first time
Subtle hints
I remember then she said you are not ready for that conversation when I asked her something relating to my father.
Well I am not backing down tonight
I meet her eyes unblinking
“Yes Enya I am ready”
Enya narrowed her eyes at me trying to see through my very soul “Well it depends on the nature of your questions.”
It won't work Enya
This is not my first night here
I am not afraid of the truth anymore
Leaning back in my chair I fold my arms on my stomach. “I can handle the answers to all the questions I plan to ask.”
I pause gulping hard “And I want direct answers.”
Enya finally gives me a nod “I will do my best Princess”
The hall is quiet everyone wants to hear what is being said on the high table
“Tonight is as good a time as any” she says smoothly “As usual the high council members only will stay back. We will answer your questions to the best of our capacity.”
To the best of our capacity
Weird choice of words
The last time only you answered and Frederic interjected.
Now you make it sound like the group will contribute
Well that is left to be seen
I tilt my head at her “Tonight is perfect” Frederic scoffs and tries to disguise it as a small cough ,I act like his seat is empty and ignore him. Slowly the conversation picks up again around the table since that is done. I pick up my fork once more taking a small bite of my food. Angelica leans closer to me
“Alessia I love that! So bold”
“It's time no more waiting” I murmur back
Across from me Alex’s eyes are focused on us intently. He knows this information is needed not only because I am still grieving and I need closure but We can't be in ready if we don’t have all the answers. According to the prophecy war is coming, Perhaps it's time I understood everything.
As dinner winds down, Mara appears guiding the coven members out. I remain seated as the hall empties.
Tonight.
No more half truths.
If the high council still thinks I am not ready
They are about to find out just how ready I am.
I won't be asking questions like a scared daughter unsure of her position.
I will be asking like the last daughter of a true bloodline.
Like the last princess they are preparing for war.
And I will get my answers by hook or by crook!
