Chapter 104 I am not powerless
Alessias POV
The pain in my chest has started to ease bit by bit . The comedy playing on thre television helps as their laughter fills up the room banishing the gloomy thoughts . I shift leaning back on the sofa as I hear a gentle knock on the door . Mara must have sent someone with my food . I get up slowly heading for the door as the knock comes again .I pull the knob and open the door gently coming face to face with Mara and two servants . One of them holds my covered food on a tray while the other holds another tray of dessert,water and tea.
They bow in unison “Princess your meal as requested." I nod my head giving her a small smile and I shift giving them space to enter the room.I watch them as the arrange the trays on the center table then turn to face me . I gesture to the bed "Please pack Signore Alex's clothes carefully into his suitcase and deliver it to luca's room"
They curtesy “ Yes princess." Crossing over to the sofa , I settle in as Mara monitores their work . Within no time they efficiently pack Alex's belongings and zip up his suitcase.
I feel a pang of pain as something twists in my chest as I watch them , wouldnt it be nice if my heart could be packed up and sealed so easily too ?
"Princess" Mara says softly “Enjoy your meal we will deliver the suitcase”
I nod my head "Thank you Mara" I reply smoothly
The girls bow and walk out immediately .I watch them quietly until they cross the doorway and Mara turns around once more
"Will that be all princess ?" She asks gently .I turn towards her giving her small smile "Yes Mara , Good night."
She shuts the door behind her firmly as I turn away focusing on the food they bought in lifting the lid with trembling hands .It all looks delicious but I have no appetite .I might as well try and eat something to give me strength for the next days magic lesson with Enya and Orzo .I take a few bites of my jambalaya rice and pause . I wonder if Alex is still in the Dining hall or if Dinner is over and he watches the servants deliver his suitcase to Lucas room with a stoic face .He probably doesn't even give a damn and I need to not care to .After all Men like him don't have a heart! My chest tightens painfully as I use my hand to gently rub the sore spot .
“Alessia eat and preserve your strength tomorrow is another day." With that thought I pick up my spoon and continue eating the food forcing it down my throat and pausing between bites to drink some water .Just as I am finishing my dessert the door opens and my heart sinks in my chest as I start to panic dont tell me its -
Looking up, I sigh in relief as Angelica steps into the room with her bag her expression full of concern.
I return my gaze to my dessert a bit upset by her abrupt arrival why didnt she knock ?
"You could have knocked you know ?"I grumble
She lets of a deep breath "I am sorry Alessia I wasnt thinking, how was your first lesson ?"
I let out an annoyed huff leaning back on the sofa
"It went well but I walked in on something I shouldn't have seen when I came back" I add icily as the image of Alex and the witches fills my mind for an instant . I squeeze the chair tight as my power stirs in my belly. Angelica moves closer sitting on the sofa
"Alessia , My cousin a seer confirmed Alex was drugged"
I freeze as her words register in my mind.
"Dont you think that is a bit too convenient ?" I ask finally pitting my desert spoon down.
Angelica leans in "Alessia I believe him ,It was a plan .He was giving a spiked Third drink .We just need to find out by whom"
I laugh drily as bitterness fills my words "I only know what I saw Angelica, one witch was gyrating in front of him while the other was pressing her bosom on his chest !"
"Alessia he was drugged" she presses on "He can't remember who gave him the third drink he confronted Enya at dinner she was taken back"
That catches my attention ."Really ? How so?"
Angelica pauses for a moment “Her eyes were way too jittery and knowing she didn't act surprised at all"
They wouldn't be that spiteful would they?
My fire stirs in my belly again.
Could it be true?
Was Alex actually framed?
"And the seer ?Where was she during dinner ?" I ask
"She sat facing Alex studying ,feeling signature magic" Angelica's voive drops to a low whisper "She thinks they wanted to destablize you and make learning difficult, Alex was collatertal damage."
I hitch a breath remembering how Enya snapped when I made my first flame.
There could be some truth to this.
I dont wnat to hold an innocent man guilty for a crime he did not commit.
I rise from the sofa pacing around the room. My mind in utter turmoil as doubt and hope wage a silent war.
"Angelica they have been good hosts,I wont think of them as guilty until I see proof of their misdeeds. If Alex is- " My voice breaks as tears threaten to fall “Let her prove it."
I blink back my eyes closing them for a moment as I feel Angelica also rise and come to stand near me "You love him." It wasn't a question but a statement
I sigh muttering shakily "To death and beyond Angelica"
Silence fills the room for some moments...
"I need some space from him" I say quielty
Angelica nods compassion filling her voice "Then take what you need but don't shut the door yet."
She moves towards the bathroom and pauses by the door "Let us see what Lucy finds out tomorrow alot can change in a day"
She steps into the bathroom and shuts the door as I walk towards the sofa sinking into it .My stomach twisting painfully in knots
Was Alex drugged?
Is Enya responsible?
Is it a power play?
My fire stirs in my tummy again churning , ever ready ,standby I take a few deep breaths to calm it down again.
If I find out Alex was drugged...
I will show them just what I can really do...
I am not weak anymore...
Neither am I powerless...
