Chapter 136
Anna
Inside the club, the music was loud and sensual. I could barely hear Lily over the music as she spoke.
We were now at the bar catching up on things. She had change over the last few weeks. She'd become thinner and her once lustrous red hair had become dull but her eyes were bright for som reason, almost like she was drunk.
"You're kidding!" Lily said, her eyes bulging out of their sockets in surprise. I had just told her about knowing about her being a she-wolf. To say she was surprised was an understatement.
"I am unfortunately not. It's been a rollercoaster of a month,"
"I'm so sorry, Anna," she squeezed my arm reassuringly.
I sighed. I was faking everything and telling half truths.
"They are trying to get to Duncan through you," she said after taking a swig of her whiskey."They know he loves you," she looked back at me.
"And the best way to hurt him is to obviously through you."
Yeah, that wasn't the reason but I wasn't about to tell her. Duncan had an enemy, an ememy hellbent on destroying him. I just didn't know his motive and who he truly was.
Azeal had claimed to be my mother's friend and he had claimed to know my father and from his story and insinuations, my father was the villain of the story. That scared me, knowing that the man that brother me had somehow hurt my mother scared me. If Selena was my mother's lover then it had have hurt my father.
Was my mother cheating?
All of these thoughts passed through my mind.
"Yeah," I nodded
"Are you okay? You've been through a lot this last few months,"
"I'm doing good, better than I expected. Learning that you kind is real and not just the imagination of fantasy writees... well, it has been stressful yet intruiging.
"i'm sorry you had to find out this wy, Anna. I always wanted to tell you but we were forbidden to."
"I'm glad you didn't, honestly,"
I sighed.
"You are?"
"Of course. I don't think I'd have been able to handle it then."
"Yeah, well, I guess you're Right,"
She smiled as she took another swing of her drink.
"Lily?! What the hell are you doing here?"
Sabrina demanded behind us. Lily and I turned to look at her.
She looked shocked to see Lily.
"Hello Sabrina, miss me?"
"Are you insane? How did you get out of the facility?" She questioned.
"I'm happy to see you too, Sabrina,"
Sabrina grabbed Lily unceremoniously from the stool.
"Lily?" Duncan appeared behind Sabrina, his eyes wide.
"In the flesh,' She said and pulled away from Sabrina, running towards Duncan.
She hugged him tightly. "I missed you so much, boss," she smiled.
"What's going on?" I glanced at Sabrina for answers.
"None of your business, she gritted out, watching as Lily hugged Duncan.
Duncan all of a sudden grabbed Lily's arms and led her into the hallway.
Sabrina followed behind. I followed after, taking my Martini and following them.
"Where the hell do you think you are going to?" Sabrina turned as soon as we entered the hallway.
"Following Duncan,"
"This is wolf-folk matters," she smirked.
"Lily is my friend,"
"Yes but unless you can turn into a wolf, you can't be here, now fo back to the party,"
"Absolutely not. Do you think you're the boss of me or something?"
"If I were, you'd be dead,"
She snarled and I stepped back.
Her eyes had turned a crimson color.
An Alpha.
"So much for being afraid," she chuckled and ran towards Duncan who was already inside the elevator yelling at Lily.
I walked back into the club, the blue neon lights and loud music resumed their assault on my senses.
Anger didn't begin to describe how I felt. I didn't care to be a beast like them and I thought I had gotten over my pain of always feeling left out but unfortunately I had not.
I had felt a stabbing sensation in my gut when Sabrina had told me I wasn't one of them.
It took me back to highschool where I thought I had made amazing friends but it only turned out to be them using me.
They'd laughed in my face and had told me I wasn't one of them. Of course I had paid them back what they deserved but thst feeling of being lost and never fitting in had always haunted me.
I made my way to the bar and asked the bartender for a cold bear.
"Done with your martini already?" He asked with a smile as he slid the bottle of beer to me.
"Yeah," I smiled and took the beer. I opened it with my hands and took a huge gulp of my drink.
I watched as the club buzzed with excitement and dancing. It was beautiful to behold.
A whole hour passed before Duncan found his way to me.
"Hey, why didn't you come with me?" He asked, kissing my cheek and taking a seat beside me.
I took in his scent, loving how close he was to me.
"Uh, I thought I should give you some privacy,
He blinked at me.
"Privacy?" He questioned.
"Yes, privacy. I don't want to infringe on your uh business with your kind."
"What the hell are you talking about, Anna?"
"Nothing. What's going on with Lily?"
He was quiet for a few seconds before he spoke...
"Well, She is a little unstable at the moment."
"Like a rogue?"
"Exactly like a rogue. How do you know that?"
"I've been doing my research plus I think you mentioned it,"
"Uh... I see." Duncan said and then glanced behind him and beckoned on the bartender.
He ordered a simple coke.
"Why are you always ordering Coke, you have a sweet tooth or something?"
He chuckled. "You could say that. I love the taste of processed sugar,"
I rolled my eyes at him. "You are grown man Duncan!"
"God forbid a grown man likes his sugar."
I burst out laughing.
"You're so unserious. What kind of Mafia boss drinks coke?"
"I do. I have loved it since I was a pup."
"Pup?" I frowned.
"It's equivalent to kid but in wolf terms."
"Ouu, tell me more,"
We spent the rest of the night taking and laughing . Duncan told me about his childhood as a kid. And the stories were funny and put me at ease for the rest of the night.
We danced, watched the strippers.
