Chapter 65 It's Not My Fault, Why Should I Admit It
But it wasn't over yet.
As soon as Amelia finished speaking, she pulled a small wooden box from the red brocade bag. Inside the box was a green pill.
Everyone stared at the pill, clueless about its nature, except Francis, whose face showed a mix of shock and disbelief.
"Ms. Martinez, that pill... is that the Spring Encounter Pill?"
Spring Encounter Pill?
Just the name alone sounded extraordinary. Anna quickly asked, "What's the Spring Encounter Pill?"
Francis took a deep breath. "The Spring Encounter Pill is named after the idea of a withered tree encountering spring. It's mentioned in another ancient medical text."
"It's said to regulate blood lipids, blood sugar, and blood pressure, improve memory, vision, and sleep, and protect and repair the liver, spleen, and kidneys. It can even slow down aging."
"In short, it's a medicine that can make a person's body feel decades younger. It's extremely difficult to make."
"If what Ms. Martinez has is indeed the Spring Encounter Pill, then it might be the only one in existence, even more precious than the Return Elixir."
A pill with so many benefits, capable of delaying aging, and there's only one in the entire world?
Even the well-informed Niamh was stunned upon hearing this.
If the Spring Encounter Pill was as miraculous and rare as Francis described, then this tiny pill would be worth a fortune.
It could easily sell for millions of dollars, and the wealthy would still scramble to buy it.
Anna took a deep breath, too.
She only heard the part about delaying aging.
In other words, if this inconspicuous little pill truly had that effect, wouldn't it mean she could stay youthful forever?
Quentin, however, remained puzzled.
He didn't understand why Francis was so respectful towards Amelia, nor did he know what the Spring Encounter Pill or the Return Elixir were.
But seeing Francis's respectful demeanor towards Amelia, could it be that Amelia really knew some kind of witchcraft?
"Yes," Amelia replied calmly, placing the pill near Vaughn's mouth with her left hand, and said softly, "Mr. Williams, take this."
"After taking it, not only will your body recover quickly, but you'll be even healthier than you were before you got sick."
However, Vaughn had heard what Francis said earlier.
He didn't know why Amelia had such a precious pill, but since it was so valuable and the only one in the world, how could he just take it so casually?
"I don't want it, Amelia," Vaughn protested. "My body is already better; there's no need to take this."
"Mr. Williams, although someone tampered with my prescription to harm you, the fact remains that you were poisoned because of me."
Amelia pushed the pill closer, insisting, "So, Mr. Williams, just take this. I can always make another one."
Tampered with the prescription? Deliberately harmed him?
Vaughn had been unconscious and had no idea what was going on. Taking advantage of his surprise, Amelia quickly pushed the Spring Encounter Pill into Vaughn's mouth.
Seeing Vaughn swallow the pill, she turned to face the Williams family.
Her gentle expression towards Vaughn instantly turned cold.
"Someone tampered with your prescription to harm you? And you're still denying it?" Kismet, who had been silent until now, suddenly spoke up, looking agitated.
"At your age, it's common to make mistakes. You wrote the wrong prescription and won't admit it, trying to blame others."
"Even though you caused Mr. Williams's condition, considering you cured the old man and gave Mr. Williams the Spring Encounter Pill, our family won't hold you accountable."
"I think you should take the opportunity to admit your mistake and leave quickly!"
"It's not my fault, so why should I admit it?" Amelia suddenly looked at Kismet, raising her eyes.
"Earlier, Mrs. Williams was eager to make me pay for what happened, and now you're rushing to get rid of me?"
Amelia's gaze and tone were slightly mocking, but her simple question made Kismet uneasy.
What did Amelia mean by this?
Could Amelia have noticed something off about Kismet?
"I'm not just gonna walk away," Amelia's eyes sharpened. "Someone used my name to try and kill Mr. Williams."
"I can tolerate a lot, but if it weren't for my Return Elixir, Mr. Williams would likely be dead by now. So, I need to find out who did this."
With that, Amelia took out the prescription and walked over to Uma, who had been attending to Vaughn.
Uma was a man in his fifties, hunched over, and seemed to have been working for the Williams family for a long time.
"I remember you," Amelia said, looking at Uma. "That day, after I wrote the prescription, Mr. Williams gave it to you to get the medicine the next day."
"Tell me, after you left with the prescription that night, did you give it to anyone else, or did anyone else handle it?"
All eyes turned to Uma, making him feel like he was on pins and needles, cold sweat dripping down his back.
"I..."
Uma instinctively glanced at Kismet, whose eyes shot daggers at him, full of warning and threat.
Uma quickly averted his gaze, stammering, "No, no one else touched it. I just went to get the medicine the next day."
Amelia's gaze grew colder. "So, you're saying that until you went to get the medicine, the prescription was with you the whole time, and no one else handled it?"
Uma replied, "Yes."
Hearing this, Amelia turned back to the bed and approached Vaughn.
"Amelia, what's going on?" Vaughn quickly asked. "What do you mean by the wrong prescription and tampered prescription?"
Amelia didn't show the prescription to Vaughn but asked, "Mr. Williams, when I wrote the prescription that day, I explained the effects of the herbs to you. Do you remember?"
Vaughn nodded immediately. "I remember. I didn't understand those herbs, so I was quite confused."
"Do you remember that when I wrote the last herb, castor bean, I specifically mentioned that both its leaves and roots could be used medicinally, but one part is toxic?"
As Amelia mentioned this, Vaughn recalled the conversation.
"I remember you said the root of the castor bean is toxic, so the dosage must be carefully controlled. But the prescription you wrote was for the leaves, so there was no need to worry."
"So, I wrote castor bean leaves on the prescription, right?" Amelia asked.
"Of course. I watched you write it. You even pointed to the written castor bean leaves while explaining it to me. I couldn't have remembered it wrong."
After Vaughn's words, Amelia looked up at the Williams family, who were now speechless.
"Mr. Williams just woke up. He doesn't understand pharmacology. If he hadn't heard my explanation that day, he wouldn't know the difference between castor bean leaves and roots."
"So, can I prove now that my prescription was correct?"
Amelia raised her eyes. "Since my prescription was correct, and Uma said no one else handled it, there's only one possibility left."
She suddenly pointed at the panicked Uma. "It means he swapped the prescription and tried to kill Mr. Williams."
"Such behavior constitutes attempted murder. According to the law, even if it's not a life sentence, it would be at least ten years in prison."
"Since we've figured it out, let's call the police."
Amelia's words were deliberately aimed at Uma.
Sure enough, as soon as she finished speaking, Uma's face turned pale, and he collapsed to his knees. "No, it wasn't me! I didn't swap the prescription!"
"Not you?" Amelia walked up to him, her cold, sharp gaze, and powerful aura making Uma shiver uncontrollably.
"If it wasn't you, then who was it? Didn't you say no one else touched the prescription?"
"There was! There was!"
Uma was terrified, afraid that the police would arrest him and he would end up in prison for over ten years.
He pointed a trembling finger at Kismet, stammering, "It was Mrs. Williams! Mrs. Williams took the prescription that night and gave it to me the next day to get the medicine!"
