Chapter 64 Making Them Uneasy
Vaughn spat up blood again!
This time, it was black.
Vaughn was in his seventies. It's normal for older folks to have health issues, but even the healthiest person couldn't handle this kind of blood vomiting.
As soon as Vaughn spat out the blood, he passed out on the spot.
Lying on the bed with his eyes closed, sweat beading on his forehead, his body convulsed like he was in immense pain.
His face and lips were completely pale, making him look like he was at death's door, one foot already in the grave.
After learning that Amelia was Royce's final and most important disciple, everyone had high hopes for her medical skills and the Return Elixir. They thought Vaughn would wake up as soon as he took the medicine.
No one expected things to turn out like this.
Niamh was furious, shaking with rage. "What the hell is going on?! Why is my father vomiting blood again, and why does it look worse than before?"
Niamh pushed Amelia aside and helped Vaughn up, crying uncontrollably, "Dad! Dad, wake up! It's me, Niamh! Can you hear me?"
Anna's face turned cold when she saw Vaughn's condition. She glared at Amelia with hatred. "Did you give my grandfather medicine or poison?"
Pointing at Amelia, Anna yelled, "I'm telling you, if anything happens to my grandfather today, don't think you'll leave the Williams Mansion alive!"
How could Amelia know anything about medicine? And Royce's final and most important disciple? Royce must have been blind!
Before Amelia could explain, a voice called out from behind the crowd.
"Grandpa!"
It was Quentin.
He must have just arrived after hearing the news and saw Vaughn's dire condition.
Quentin had already heard on the way that Vaughn vomited blood after taking Amelia's medicine. He couldn't believe a high schooler like Amelia would dare prescribe anything to Vaughn, let alone that it would make him so much worse.
Just a few days ago, Vaughn was fine, but now he looked like he was on the brink of death.
Quentin, who had been doted on by Vaughn since childhood, was furious. He glared at Amelia in disbelief. "Amelia, do you have any conscience? My grandfather treated you so well, and you want to kill him?"
Before anyone could react, Quentin rushed at Amelia and shoved her hard.
Being much taller and stronger, Quentin's force sent the frail Amelia stumbling backward.
Caught off guard, Amelia crashed into a three-foot-tall standing vase.
The vase toppled and shattered on the floor, shards scattering everywhere.
Unable to stop herself, Amelia fell to the ground, her right hand landing on the sharp fragments, instantly staining the floor with blood.
"Amelia!"
"Amelia!"
"Sis!"
Michael and the Martinez family gasped.
Michael was the first to react, stepping forward to help Amelia up.
But when he lifted Amelia's hand, he saw several pieces of the vase embedded in her palm.
Her hand was drenched in blood, the crimson liquid dripping to the floor. The sight made Michael's heart nearly stop.
Leroy had rushed over too but stopped when he saw Michael already holding Amelia.
Michael must have been the one waiting for Amelia in that black car after her exam at Prestige High School.
Leroy's eyes darkened, and he stopped in his tracks.
"Quentin, are you out of your mind?"
Tobias, seeing Amelia injured, turned red with rage.
He lunged at Quentin, swinging a fist that landed squarely on Quentin's face.
Tobias didn't hold back, and Quentin nearly fell to his knees, blood streaming from his nose.
Seeing Quentin get hit by the Martinez family, Kismet went ballistic. "Tobias! How dare you hit Quentin?"
"He hurt Amelia, so I hit him. What's wrong with that?" Tobias, like an angry pit bull, shouted at Kismet, "If you touch my sister, I'll hit you too!"
Kevin knew Tobias's temper. Tobias was used to getting his way and didn't care about consequences like adults did.
When Tobias said he'd hit Kismet if she touched Amelia, he wasn't kidding.
Kevin hurried over to restrain Tobias. "Tobias, calm down! Chris, help me hold him!"
All this happened in seconds.
The once calm room descended into chaos.
"Amelia."
Michael took a deep breath, holding Amelia close, his hands trembling as he touched hers. "Forget about everything else. I'm taking you to the hospital."
"I'm fine," Amelia quickly said, raising her left hand to touch Michael's furrowed brow.
Michael, usually so composed, now looked pained and guilty, emotions spilling over.
Amelia knew he would rather be hurt himself than see her like this.
Just then, a weak voice came from the bed.
"What are you all doing?"
It was Vaughn's voice!
Everyone was startled and turned to see Vaughn awake, looking their way.
"Dad!"
"Grandpa!"
"Grandpa!"
Seeing Vaughn awake, Niamh, Kismet, and Anna, along with Quentin, who was still bleeding from his nose, rushed to the bedside.
To their shock, Vaughn was not only fully awake but also looked completely different from before!
His previously pale face now had a healthy glow, and his once-cloudy eyes were clear, as if he had fully recovered.
He even looked better than before he got sick.
What was going on?
Niamh, Anna, and Quentin were dumbfounded.
"Mr. Williams."
Amelia walked over.
The crowd instinctively made way for her as she knelt by Vaughn's bed.
The shards were still embedded in her palm, blood still flowing, but Amelia didn't even flinch. She asked, "Mr. Williams, how do you feel now?"
"Amelia!" Vaughn was shocked, his eyes wide. "Your hand, what happened to your hand?"
"It's nothing, Mr. Williams," Amelia said, hiding her right hand behind her back, her expression focused. "Don't worry about me. Tell me how you feel. Is there any discomfort?"
"I..." Vaughn paused to assess his body. "I don't feel any discomfort. In fact, I feel light and completely at ease."
"That's good," Amelia said softly. "You've been poisoned these past few days. The medicine I gave you was an antidote."
"The black blood you spat out earlier expelled all the toxins from your body. You'll be fine once you recover."
Amelia’s words left Niamh, Anna, and Quentin stunned.
The black blood wasn't a sign of worsening condition but the expulsion of poison?
All those symptoms that made Vaughn look like he was dying were just the Return Elixir working?
So, Amelia hadn't harmed Vaughn; she had saved him from the brink of death?
What had they done?
They had all cursed Amelia, ready to tear her apart.
Quentin, not knowing the full story, had attacked Amelia, injuring her hand, which was still bleeding.
The healthier Vaughn looked, the more ashamed the Williams family felt.
Amelia hadn't defended herself earlier and still focused only on Vaughn, not even glancing at them.
Her silence and composure made them feel even more guilty.
They couldn't help but take deep breaths, feeling a new level of discomfort and shame.
