Chapter 123 The Awakening of the Four Great Families

"The White family has fallen?!"

"It's not the White family that has fallen; it's Lennox's direct line!"

At gatherings of various small and medium-sized families in Freton City, whispers like these could be heard from every corner.

Many people had only half-understood the truth of the matter, but they were still enthusiastically discussing it.

This was one of the four great families of Freton City, after all!

"I heard it was the daughter of the head of the Commercial Bureau, Joshua, that Alessia, you know her? She got involved with Paul Russo, and they worked together to overthrow Lennox."

"No wonder," someone realized. "I was wondering why Paul isn't targeting the White family anymore, and that Alessia, she even became the chairman."

"That Alessia must be great in bed; otherwise, why would Paul..." Before the person could finish, they hastily shut their mouth, taking a sip of their drink to cover their embarrassment.

Not far away, a woman in a black evening gown with skin as white as snow and stunning beauty was approaching.

"If I hear any more nonsense from you, prepare for your families to go bankrupt," she warned in a cold voice, having overheard their conversation.

Cold sweat broke out on the men as they bent over in fear, repeatedly bowing and apologizing.

"We're sorry, Alessia. We were foolish!"

As they spoke, they began to slap their own mouths, making a loud smacking sound.

Others at the party who heard the commotion looked over and quickly turned their heads away when they saw the woman in the black gown.

They had seen this woman before, but no one had paid her any mind, and some even flirted with her.

But now, things were different.

Lennox, Anthony, Dominic, Benjamin... Each member of the White family's direct line had mysteriously disappeared, their bodies nowhere to be found, and all were linked to this woman.

The new head of the White family and the new chairman of the White Group, Alessia White!

Alessia gave them a cold look for a moment, lost interest, and then left.

After the last incident, she had matured a lot. Her already remarkable abilities, under the arrangements of Henry and Nicholas, had helped her reorganize the power of the White family within two days. Now, in the White family, she was supreme, her status far surpassing even Lennox's.

After all, she had risen to power stepping over Lennox's corpse.

But now that she had these unimaginable powers, Alessia felt a bit weary. She remembered how, after the crisis had passed, she had sought comfort in Henry's arms, only to be pushed away.

"I already have a girlfriend, Alessia. This is making me uncomfortable."

Henry had been smiling then, but Alessia felt a chill in her heart.

She realized then that Henry's sudden appearances during times of danger had made her deeply attached to this man.

"Henry's girlfriend..."

Alessia murmured to herself, her expression melancholic. She then looked into the distance.

There was an even more dazzling woman standing there, looking as if a goddess was overlooking the mortal world.

"Sophia, why do I always feel like the female head of the White family is watching me?" Laura was somewhat uneasy. She always felt that the new head of the White family held some hostility towards her in her gaze.

After thinking carefully for a long time, she didn't feel she had done anything to offend this woman.

Sophia had noticed this a long time ago and joked, "Maybe because you're too beautiful. There can't be two captains on one ship. Of course, there can't be two unparalleled beauties at one party."

"You're one to talk!" Laura glared at her best friend. "If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't want to attend."

Sophia was helpless, "I have no choice either. You're the only princess of the Costa family; you’re pampered and indulged. No one would force you to do anything. But our family head insists I attend these messy family gatherings. My objections are useless."

"You don't need to envy me..." Laura thought for a moment but decided not to tell her best friend about Giulio's fake kidnapping plot. In fact, she hadn't even told Henry. Revealing this would only make her two closest people worry more about her.

"Laura, where have you been these past few days? I was really worried about you!"

Just as Laura was thinking about her father, Giulio appeared.

He was unaware that his fake kidnapping plot had been exposed, and he looked at his daughter with a loving face, "Laura, don't be afraid; let's go home. I'll arrange for someone to protect you. No bad guys will be able to hurt you again."

Seeing his pretentious face made Laura want to get angry, but considering they were at a party, she suppressed her anger and said coldly, "No need; I've been staying at a friend's house and I don't want to go back right now."

"A friend's house?" Giulio noticed something. When Laura mentioned Sophia, she would usually say her name directly. "Who is this friend?"

Laura didn't bother to hide it anymore and looked at her father defiantly, "Henry. I've been staying at Henry's house these past few days."

"You!" Giulio was so angry that he was at a loss for words.

He knew Henry had taken Laura away, but knowing her relationship with Sophia, he assumed she would end up with her. He didn't expect her to be at Henry's the whole time!

Of course, he didn't know that Sophia was actually at Henry's too. Although Laura was at a sanatorium, she was still living with Sophia.

Realizing that his daughter had been tricked into staying at Henry's house, Giulio felt as if he had swallowed a fly. With a cold snort, he turned and left.

‘There's no need to persuade Laura anymore. The assassins should act today. Once Henry is dead, no matter how deep Laura falls, it won't matter.’

Giulio was scheming in his heart while looking around the banquet. When he saw a figure in a black gown, his eyes lit up, and he approached.

"Miss Alessia, congratulations. You young people are really promising. The large White family is now under your control."

He greeted Alessia with a smile, his face full of satisfaction, as if he were looking at an outstanding junior.

Alessia stopped and showed an amused expression.

"Head of the Costa family, what can I do for you?"

Giulio coughed lightly and said seriously, "Alessia, perhaps you don't know, but the four great families of Freton City have always been united. This is how we maintain control over Freton City."

"We don't meddle in the internal squabbles of each other’s families. Even if you collude with outsiders like Nicholas, we can pretend not to know."

"But now that you are the head of the White family, you must understand the responsibility of being one of the four great families of Freton City. Whether for Freton City or the White family, you absolutely cannot continue to associate with outsiders like Nicholas. Otherwise, you are betraying the entire Freton City!"
