Chapter 117 I WILL BE WAITING.

Asher

I blinked quickly, trying to steady myself.

Nathaniel's smirk grew larger and I scoffed, pushing his hand off my shoulders. "Of course." I said.

"Okay, I won't argue with you."

"How is Eve?" I asked, looking away from him.

He didn't respond, and only walked into my line of sight, he tilted his head slightly and my frown deepened.

"You can also choose to not tell me, it's your choice." I said and his smile grew larger.

"We are divorced."

My eyes widened, and I could feel my heart doing a little flip. I looked away from him, afraid I was letting my excitement show.

"That's not what I was asking you about." I said.

"She's probably alright." He responded and I turned towards him, his face was now empty, devoid of any emotion.

"So—" I trailed off, raising my hand to the back of my head and I took a deep breath before I asked. "Why did you get divorced?"

Nathaniel tilted his head slightly, a little smile playing at his lips. I scoffed, turning away and he finally answered.

"We didn't love each other. It was just an alliance."

I raised a brow. "An alliance?" I managed to slip out, I clasped my hands over my mouth quickly but he already heard my words.

"Yes. What? You thought I loved her?" He asked and I rolled my eyes.

"It's your fault for not explaining clearly." I said, walking away but he called out to me and I paused.

"When I get rid of him, I'll come to you." He assured me.

A smile rose on my face but I didn't turn back, I only nodded before returning to my room.

Early the next morning, we returned to the family. My mother stood at the door when we arrived and she smiled the moment she saw me.

She hugged me tight, and my hands curled tightly around her, a slight smile raising on my face. She pulled out of the hug and studied my body. "You didn't get hurt, right?" She asked, a brow raised.

"Of course I didn't. You still have Dima watching me." I said quickly with a smile on my face.

She pulled back a little before she spoke. "You both could have conspired to lie to me." She said, and I looked back to catch Dima's face.

He stood tall, his face devoid of any emotions. I shook my head, looking back at her.

"He would never." I said and she also looked towards him, a light chuckle escaping her lips. We walked into the house and I retired into my room.

I stood by the window, eyes drifting across the field. It had been two days since I had returned, I couldn't help but wonder when Nathaniel would finally catch him. I left the window side and took a seat when a knock came on my door. A smile grew onto my face. Was he here already?

"Come in." I said quickly but the person who opened the door was Dima.

My smile dropped as soon as he appeared before me. "What are you doing here?" I asked and he raised a brow, scanning the place.

"Were you expecting someone else?" He asked and I shook my head no.

"Your mother needs you downstairs." He said, and I nodded, raising up to my feet.

"Okay. I'll be there in a minute." I said, Dima's eyes scanned the room once more before he finally left.

I packed up some papers from the floor and hurried downstairs. I had just taken my seat opposite her when an attendant walked in.

"Someone wants to see the heir."

I rose up to my feet quickly, could it be him? Or could it be someone else? My gaze dropped and I managed to catch my mother's confused gaze.

I crouched down slowly, and sat.

"Who is it?"

"He didn't say." The attendant said and a frown settled on my mother's face, she was about to speak but I beat her to it.

"I'll go see the person. I think it's someone I know." I said, walking out before she could say anything else and when I saw the person, it was indeed Nathaniel.

A smile rose on my face, and I walked faster, getting to his side faster than I would have.

"You were waiting for me?" He asked but I scoffed, rolling my eyes.

"Have you caught him?" I asked in return, but he ignored my question and looked beyond me.

I turned back, and saw my mother peeking out through the window. I looked between the both of them, and their eyes were locked. I tapped his arm lightly.

"Have you caught him?" I asked again and he quickly snapped out of it.

"Yes. He committed suicide." He said and my eyes widened. Could there be more of them? "Don't worry, I've dealt with everyone of his contacts. There is no survivor." He said and I nodded happily.

"But there's something I still need to confirm." He said, his tone dropping low and I raised a brow.

"What is it?" I asked, and he shook his head quickly.

"Nothing."

I retracted backwards, studying him. "Are you sure?" I asked and he smiled.

"You should know that I'll be able to protect myself." He said and I lowered my head, agreeing with his words.

"When will you return?" I asked.

"Soon." He paused, dipping his hands into his pockets, and bringing out a wedding invitation. I raised a brow, looking up to catch his gaze.

He nudged me on, and I took the invitation from his hands.

"The true lovers are reuniting." He said and my eyes widened as I read the name on the invitation.

"Eve is getting married..." I paused, raising my eyes to look up to him. "To River?" I said and he nodded.

"Wow." I said, looking back down at the papers. "You managed to hide it well."

He shrugged. "Are you going to be there?"

I smiled, my hands dropping. "Yes, Of course. I will be there."

"Okay, I'll be waiting.”
