Chapter 105 - GO!
It's as if a burning blade has pierced me, causing a scream of agony to escape my lips. Instinctively, I clutch my belly with my hands, as if that could soothe the pain consuming me.
I fold in on myself, clutching my belly desperately as if that could stop the pain. I feel warm liquid sliding between my legs, a cold hint that something is terribly wrong.
Surprise and fear flash across my face as I realize what is happening. The warm liquid soaks the bottom of my dress, staining it red confirming my fears and making it clear that something is terribly wrong. Fear grips me, my breathing becomes rapid and choppy as I face the possibility of what this could mean.
"Something is wrong!", I exclaim in desperation, searching his face for an answer I don't have. The pain consumes me, but the uncertainty of what is to come is even more overwhelming.
Genrant, noticing my distress, rushes to my side, his face reflecting a mixture of concern and determination. His expert hands instinctively search my belly, gently probing in an attempt to determine the source of my pain.
"Darling, what's wrong with you?" my mother exclaims as she kneels beside me, her hands outstretched in a gesture of support. The pain seems to overshadow everything else, but through the fog of my agony, I can feel her palpable concern.
My hands clutch at my belly in desperation, as if they can contain the pain that consumes me. Genrant frowns as he examines my abdomen, his eyes scanning for any sign of emergency. His comforting presence gives me some comfort, but fear still burns deep within me.
"Doctor!" says Genrant urgently, his voice steady despite the chaos around us. My mother brings her hands to her chin, her expression reflecting the same concern and determination as we prepare to face the unknown.
The doctor hurries toward me, his deft hands scanning my belly for any sign of injury. "On a scale of one to ten, how much does it hurt?" he asks urgently, his voice carrying with it the concern reflected in his eyes.
"A whopping ten, it hurts like hell!" I reply with a groan, squeezing Genrant's hand tightly in search of comfort. My heartbeat seems to echo in my ears, rapid and uncontrolled, as anxiety takes over.
Genrant responds to my squeeze gently, his eyes reflecting concern but also unwavering determination. "I'm here for you," he murmurs in a serene voice, trying to instill calm in me in the midst of uncertainty. "The doctor will help us and soon we'll be home, everything will be fine." However, his face is marked by worry and fear, an expression that cannot hide the gravity of the situation. His hand clings to mine firmly, as if to protect me from whatever danger lurks around us.
The doctor continues to examine me carefully, his movements precise as he assesses the gravity of the situation. "I'm going to need help moving her to the pack, but it has to be fast, or else..." his voice breaks for a moment, his worried look reflecting the urgency of the situation.
"Or else what? What do you mean?" asks Genrant defensively and aggressively, his hand still clinging to mine, as if he fears someone might try to separate us.
The doctor doesn't respond, concern reflected on his serious face, but there is no time for explanations. I feel helpless, my mind struggling to comprehend what is happening. Is my baby okay? What is going on inside me? Questions crowd my mind, but no one seems to have answers.
The doctor looks up at Genrant, his expression somber like the storm clouds hanging overhead. "If we don't get her there in time, we could lose her," he states bluntly, his words echoing in the tension-laden air around us like an ominous echo.
"And not just her," the doctor adds. "Also the baby. Every minute counts right now. There's no time for more explanations - let's go!"
Genrant clenches his fists in a forceful fury, his knuckles white under the pressure. His tense jaw exudes determination and barely contained rage. "I won't let that happen," he mutters between his teeth, each word laden with a desperate sense of urgency. His gaze meets mine, a glint of determination and love shining in his dark eyes like beacons in the darkness.
The pain is excruciating, like sharp knives piercing my abdomen, each spasm a torture that threatens to snatch me from consciousness. I struggle to stay awake, to hold on to reality as I feel the world fading around me. Through the haze of pain, I see Genrant's face, his expression marked by anguish and worry. It seems as if every beat of my heart echoes in him, as if every sigh is an echo of his own internal struggle.
With determination, my mother makes her way to the car, key in hand and a determined expression on her face. She slides behind the wheel confidently, her hands gripping the steering wheel tightly as she prepares the vehicle for departure. Genrant leans into me, his arms gently around me, lifting me gently as if fearing that any abruptness might worsen my already weakened state. I feel his controlled strength, his comforting touch as he holds me tenderly, taking care not to increase my pain. With precise movements, he carries me towards the car my mother had taken to come and pick me up, making sure not to put too much pressure on my weakened body.
Genrant gently settles me in the back of the car, his strong but gentle hands holding me carefully. His eyes sparkle with concern and determination, and I can feel his concern radiating through his every gesture.
As he takes a seat next to me, placing my head on his legs, I feel a slight tremor in his body, barely perceptible but evident to me. Her gaze meets mine for an instant, and in that brief eye contact, I find comfort.
Without wasting a second, my mother starts the engine and accelerates with determination, her focus on getting to the herd as quickly as possible. The roar of the engine mingles with the crackle of flames in the distance as we pull away from the disaster site.
The ride is tumultuous, every bump and twist in the road seeming to increase my pain and weakness. But Genrant is by my side, his presence comforting like an anchor in the midst of the storm. He holds me tenderly, his gaze fixed on me with concern and love, promising to protect me at all costs during the journey to the safety of the herd.
The tension in the atmosphere is palpable as we hurry toward the herd, each minute feeling like an eternity in the midst of pain. The landscape blurs through the window as the world rushes by. My body feels weak, my mind clouded by the struggle with pain and fatigue. Every bump in the road is like a direct hit to my weary bones, but I cling to the hope of reaching the herd in time.
Will my baby be okay?
