Chapter 150 Bad People Are Always Good at Disguising Themselves
"It's really you, Nolan. Grandpa Hayden was planning for you until the day he died. He wanted me to drop the investigation into my parents' car accident, and in return, he'd give me half of his antique collection. You're such a jerk!" I glared at Nolan, tears streaming down my face, and spat out the words.
"Nolan's not just a jerk, he's a total waste. He embezzled so many company assets to prop up Ella's brother's business," Isabella said, raising an eyebrow.
"You all knew! You told Dad, didn't you?" Nolan snapped.
"He's the CEO, how could he not know?"
"Dad, Mom! Didn't you both teach us from a young age to abide by the law?" Ryder shouted.
The scene was a mess, and my head was pounding.
"Officer, please take them away. I can't deal with this anymore," I said irritably, thinking this should've been resolved quicker.
"Take them away!" The cop, just as fed up, dragged Nolan and Ella off. Isabella and a heartbroken Ryder followed.
Ethan hadn't left yet and said, "Mr. Hayden Taylor's will is in three copies: one with me, one in a bank safe deposit box, and one that Mr. Preston Taylor stole. Now that Mr. Nolan Taylor and his family are in jail, the inheritance situation might change. Just a heads-up, I'll keep handling Mr. Hayden Taylor's funeral arrangements. Let me know if anything comes up."
I showed no emotion and pulled Daniel to leave.
Finn suddenly called out to me.
"What's up, Finn?" I asked.
He said, "Emily, our family never knew the truth about your parents. Otherwise, with my parents' temper, they wouldn't have covered for Nolan. But I still want to apologize to you as a Taylor."
"Finn, you don't need to apologize to me. The ones who should apologize are those who caused my parents' deaths and those who covered for them," I took a deep breath and continued, "I should also apologize to you. In my last conversation with Grandpa Hayden, I discovered that someone was seeking revenge against the Taylor family. Grandpa Hayden wanted me to bring you all in and reminded Nolan about it. To protect that person, I watched coldly and delayed. It was me who watched him die."
"Emily, you don't need to blame yourself. Dad was already close to death. Besides, if Dad had really told Nolan, Nolan might have already fled by now, causing more trouble for the cops," Elizabeth comforted me.
"Exactly! Who would've thought that, except for Ryder, Nolan's entire family would be so corrupt!" Mason said angrily and complained, "Wasn't Dad always particular about character? How could he have handed the company over to someone as morally bankrupt as Nolan?"
Elizabeth added, "Isn't it because you were too incompetent? If you had been able to support the Taylor Group back then, would Dad have needed to cover for Nolan?"
Mason retorted, "How can you say that! Wasn't Isabella also there? Her abilities are evident to all of us now. If the Taylor Group had been handed to Isabella back then, I would have felt more balanced! Do you know, over the years, just suppressing Nolan's scandals cost a billion dollars! How did he have the nerve to question us just now!"
"Good thing you didn't beat him up in front of the cops, or we would have had to go with them too," Elizabeth said with a relieved smile, her voice gentle.
"I'm too old to be that impulsive. Dad just died, and if I beat Nolan in front of the cops, who would handle Dad's funeral? If the media found out, it's shame on our whole family," Mason sighed and looked at Finn and us, saying softly, "In front of the kids, give me some dignity."
"Wasn't I just praising you?" Elizabeth asked.
Daniel couldn't help but smile, but given the serious atmosphere, he quickly restrained his expression.
"We'll go. Tomorrow..." I hesitated. I should blame Hayden, but he was already dead. He was always so good to me. If I didn't attend his funeral, I would feel bad.
"You shouldn't come. After all, it's the Taylor family that wronged you. If you come, it would be unfair to your parents," Elizabeth said, then I thought for a moment and nodded.
I said to Finn, "Finn, I'll send a wreath. Please tell Grandpa Hayden at his grave that I no longer blame him."
Anyway, it was all even now.
When Daniel and I finally got home, it was already 3 AM. I sat on the couch, dazed for a while.
I felt like I had cried all my tears on the way back.
But inside, I still felt a constant ache and some confusion.
It was supposed to be my revenge. All along, I was surrounded by everyone's love, and even the final truth wasn't revealed by me. Therefore, I felt a deep sense of sadness.
"I'm here. Let's go to bed, okay?" Daniel said, picking me up.
