Chapter 149 I Know She Has Her Reasons
Ethan Martinez, the lawyer, was still going through the will. When he finished, he didn't say who'd get the Taylor Group.
"That's it? How are the shares split? If it's not in the will, does that mean they're divided equally?" Nolan asked.
Ethan replied, "It's in the will. Mr. Hayden Taylor said whoever he gave the company seal to would get 94% of his shares, and the other 6% would go to his other two kids. But since the seal was stolen, that part's invalid."
"So, whoever has the seal gets the company?" Nolan shot back.
"Nolan, don't you get the law? Preston stole the seal, which means it doesn't count and will just get him in trouble."
Mason couldn't help but laugh.
"Nolan, the will says Dad had to hand it over himself, not that someone could swipe it!" Mason ignored Nolan's glare and asked the lawyer, "So, if that part's invalid, how do we split the shares?"
"By law, they should be split equally among the three kids," Ethan said, raising his hand.
Nolan added, "Why? I've been running the company, and Isabella, she's a woman, why should she get an equal share? Dad's been funding Mason's new ventures, but Mason hasn't done anything to beat the Smith Group! Why should they get a piece of the company?"
"Because Preston broke the will's rules. Otherwise, most of the shares would've gone to one person. Whether that would've been you, we don't know," Isabella said with a cold smile.
"Yeah, Mr. Hayden Taylor once told me he knew about you moving company assets and planned to give all the shares to Mason. He also said I had to be there when he handed over the seal," Ethan said.
Isabella kept sneering, maybe out of disappointment. Even in a crisis, Hayden never thought of letting her take charge.
"You're a lawyer, you need proof! When did I ever move company assets?" Nolan yelled at Ethan.
"I'm just passing on Mr. Hayden Taylor's words," Ethan said calmly. He must've dealt with unreasonable family members like Nolan before.
Then he looked at Nolan with a bit of sympathy and signaled to the two cops that they could proceed.
"Mr. Nolan Taylor, a guy named Alexander came to the station and confessed. He said he pushed Preston to steal the will and the seal. Alexander also claimed you messed with Mr. Johnson's car eleven years ago, causing the deaths of Mr. Johnson and his wife, and the paralysis and coma of Alexander's dad, Brandon Robinson, who died two years later. You're coming with us!" one of the cops said to Nolan.
"I don't know any Alexander! He's lying! I'm not going!" Nolan shot back.
"He's got evidence," the cop said, reaching for the handcuffs.
"Impossible!" Nolan yelled.
"I have evidence too. I'll go with you," Isabella said, looking at me with some guilt.
My eyes welled up. I was clearly upset, but I couldn't help but laugh. "Isabella, I know you have your reasons. I won't blame you."
Mason scratched his head, still not getting the situation.
But Elizabeth smiled. She knew that once Nolan was in prison or sentenced to death, his shares would either go to Ella or be split between Ella and Ryder.
Isabella used to be Elizabeth's rival, but now they were allies.
Suddenly, a few more cops rushed in and said, "Mrs. Ella Taylor, you need to come with us too! Mr. Hayden Taylor's family doctor just reported that someone switched his medication. We checked the surveillance on his computer and found that it was you."
"What did you do! That was my Dad!" Nolan was agitated, pointing at Ella.
"What could I do! Of course, I wanted him to die sooner. With the company in such a mess, the longer he lived, the easier it would be for you to lose control! Look, he even wanted to give the shares to your useless brother!" Ella shouted.
I didn't expect Samuel to be so capable, proving my suspicions so quickly.
Mason touched his nose and said, somewhat aggrieved, "Ella, I'm still here! Stop insulting me!"
"Shouldn't your focus be on the fact that Ella harmed Dad?" Elizabeth said to him in disappointment.
"Yeah, if Grandpa hadn't died so early, maybe most of the Taylor Group's shares would have gone to you," Finn said bluntly, looking helpless.
Mason had always wanted to take shortcuts. Now that it was his turn, he couldn't react.
"Right! Dad was so old, why were you still tormenting him!" Mason finally reacted, pointing at Nolan and Ella accusingly.
