Chapter 146 No One Can Escape the Cop

Daniel chimed in, "Yeah, we already guessed where Preston might be this morning. But he's got guts; he drove his car to the base of a hill in the suburbs and ditched it to make a run for it. Some fugitives did the same, thinking they can hide out in the hills and not get caught. But the area isn't that big; send a dozen people to search, and they'll nab him in half a day."

"Are you sure this isn't just a trick to throw the cops off?" I couldn't believe Preston would be that dumb unless he was really desperate.

"Not sure, you might be right. Otherwise, why haven't we heard anything by now?"

I had a hunch someone was helping Preston, but I had no clue who. But from the surveillance footage, it looked like Preston was the only one who did the deed.

Daniel noticed me struggling to walk as I got up to get some water and couldn't help but comment, "Your foot still numb from yesterday?"

"Yeah. Sex is great in the moment, but it hurts afterward," I sighed.

"Tonight, I'll make sure you get a good rest."

"Aren't you feeling tired at all?"

"I run 6 miles every day in the military, along with other training. This is nothing."

"Alright, I got it. You're impressive."

"Need me to feed you later?" he asked.

"No, that's not necessary," I waved my hand, took a sip of water, and added, "You don't need to make dinner for me tonight. I'm already full; I'll just have some veggies later."

"What did you eat? Did you order takeout with me here?"

"Cookies. I was drawing all afternoon and got hungry."

"When I have some time off, I'll learn to bake and make you some cookies to keep at home."

"Why don't you learn tonight?" I thought, since we weren't having sex tonight, he could sacrifice a bit of his workout time to learn baking.

"Do you want to gain 5 pounds?"

"No." I immediately waved my hand. He laughed and went to the kitchen.

Since I said I wasn't eating, he cooked a big plate of spaghetti and even set aside a small plate for me.

"How come it tastes just like takeout?" I took a bite and was amazed.

"I found a video tutorial," he replied.

"Very good!" I gave him a thumbs up.

Later, I was lying on the couch browsing the news while he did push-ups in the space I had designated for yoga.

He soon got hot and took off his shirt, revealing his toned upper body.

Watching him do push-ups made my mind wander.

I swallowed and, after a moment of silence, turned over.

He said, "What? Am I not attractive anymore? You're just staring at your phone?"

"I can only look but not have sex; it's frustrating. Go ahead, don't bother me, thanks." I never thought I would become a woman who stays home playing on my phone all day.

I used to feel uncomfortable if I didn't go out for a day. But after staying home for over a month due to the pandemic, I had learned to enjoy my time at home.

I watched shows, played games, and ordered takeout when I was hungry, and the day just passed like that.

"Aren't you going to exercise?" he asked.

I thought about what I ate today, which didn't seem to have many calories, and decided not to exercise. I confidently said, "I don't want muscles on me."

"You're nothing like those socialites; they still work out at home. How long has your yoga mat been in the corner?"

"I don't remember." I thought I had only done yoga twice since meeting Daniel.

"Go to bed early tonight; I'll wake you up for a run in the morning," he added.

I also wanted to go to bed early, so I got up to take a shower. When I came out, I glanced at my phone and saw the news that Preston had been caught.

"No matter how cunning he is, he can't escape the cops." I was reading the news about his capture and saw a comment. [This guy caused a scene at this time. He's doomed anyway; will he take the fall for the Taylor Group's tax evasion?]

Was Preston the kind of person who would consider his family? Just as I was thinking, my phone rang. It was Isabella calling, and I answered immediately.

"Your grandpa woke up. You need to come to the hospital," Isabella said.

"Does he want to see me?" I asked.

"Yes, and bring Daniel with you for safety."

"Didn't you arrange bodyguards for me?"

"They take shifts, and one person isn't enough. Daniel seems quite capable."

"Okay." I looked down at my pajamas, sighed, and changed into regular clothes.

Daniel asked, "Why are you changing?"

"Grandpa Hayden woke up and wants to see me. I need you to come with me."

"Of course, I'll go with you. I wouldn't feel safe letting you go alone at night." He got up from the floor and wiped the sweat from his forehead.

I looked at his sweaty body and couldn't help but swallow again.

"Wait for me; I'll take a quick shower," he said.

"Okay," I replied.
