Chapter 145 My Legs Are Still Weak

No matter what, Aiden was still richer than your average Joe. As long as he held onto his current assets, he wouldn't be strapped for cash. But he couldn't just hand over all his money to his mistress.

Sure enough, not long after, Isabella hit me up again, telling me not to lend Aiden any money.

Isabella: [He won't be able to pay you back. It's my fault for letting him live so lavishly all these years. He's forgotten that he once couldn't even bring himself to buy a $1,000 tie.]

Honestly, I wouldn't buy that either. Luckily, Daniel doesn't wear suits. The $6,000 cufflinks I bought for James before were a total waste.

Emily: [Mom, the report about the Smith Group's tax evasion, it wasn't you, was it?]

Isabella: [The Smith Group is my baby; I couldn't do that. But I know who did. At the time, James let you down, and I didn't want to fix things. I thought, let him be! To get to where I am now, I haven't lost much. In fact, I'm grateful this incident implicated the Taylor Group.]

It seemed Isabella didn't want the Taylor Group to do well and even rarely swore.

Emily: [Can you tell me who reported it?]

Isabella: [You never knew? Let me tell you, but don't tell anyone else. I don't want to make things difficult for him.]

Isabella sent the person's name and quickly retracted it.

I widened my eyes. How could it be him?

I had even called him before, my senior Alexander Robinson.

Before getting this answer, I had even suspected David, but never Alexander.

Alexander joined the company a year before me and took good care of me. I never thought he would report the Smith Group.

Emily: [Mom, do you know why?]

Isabella: [I don't know, but James has a bad temper at the company. It's normal for him to offend a few people. You know, I also found out that the person who pushed Ava at the exhibition was someone Alexander hired. Alexander specifically found someone with a similar height and build to James.]

I didn't know how James and Ava offended Alexander, but I felt very satisfied. So I didn't tell the police about it. As for the report, I did send someone to remind Alexander. He gave me a million dollars in compensation, saying he'd give me a third of the money later.

I pursed my lips, my mind racing, but I couldn't grasp anything.

In my mind, Alexander had always been a reliable and sunny figure. I didn't know if James was too much, or if years of work had changed Alexander's personality.

I went quiet for a moment and decided to delete part of my chat with Isabella, like we never talked about this.

After all the drama with the Taylor family, I might be in danger. If someone got hold of my phone and saw these messages, it could implicate Alexander.

Thinking it over, I also deleted part of my chat with Daniel.

After a sigh of relief, I thought it was only fair that bad people got what they deserved. James treated me so poorly; he should pay me back somehow.

Mulling it over, I sent Daniel a message: [Keep an eye on the foreclosure auctions for James' properties. I plan to snag a bargain.]

Daniel: [I had the same idea.]

Emily: [Good thing I told you. We don't want to end up bidding against each other and driving up the price, wasting a lot of money.]

Daniel: [Yeah, if we manage to get a deal, let's go see James together and thank him for his "gift."]

Emily: [You're so bad, but I love it!]

We did need to thank James for his "gift." Too bad the money he spent on Ava was probably gone for good.

Now, I felt way more cheerful than before.

Being with the right person really did bring positive vibes.

Daniel: [Clean yourself up tonight and show me how much you like me in bed.]

Emily: [No way, my legs are still weak!]

I munched on a few more cookies and sprawled on the couch, flipping through some home design materials and the latest works of famous designers.

Looked like I'd have to delay going back to work again, and the Taylor family drama was never-ending.

Daniel came back after work. Given my current situation, he was pretty worried about me.

"I saw a guy outside. I was about to confront him, but he handed me a cigarette, saying Isabella sent him to protect you," Daniel said, taking off his coat and hanging it on the rack by the door.

"Isabella did send me two bodyguards, but they should be on a shift system. Actually, I don't go out much now, so they should be relieved," I remembered mentioning the bodyguards before.

Daniel added, "Preston should be caught soon."

"Because there are cameras everywhere in this city?" I asked.

The person who pushed Ava was caught within a day. Preston had been on the run for almost a whole day now. If he wasn't caught soon, I'd start to suspect some cameras were broken.
