Chapter 50 Natural Enemies
George glared at Ethan, annoyed, realizing that Ethan wasn't someone he could underestimate, considering he could read minds and see the future.
George stepped toward Ethan with an intimidating gesture, hoping to make him retract his statement. But Ethan wasn't easily intimidated. While he didn't possess superhuman physical strength like George, Prince Jacob, and the other espers, he possessed a mental fortitude that surpassed all of that.
George and Ethan stood facing each other, George looking extremely irritated. He wanted Ethan to clarify his statement so he could punch him in the face.
"Say that again!" He said, threatening Ethan arrogantly.
"Are you deaf? Shouldn't you already know that you're the one with the greatest potential to attack others?"
"Damn you! If that's what you think, I guess you'll be the first person I'll attack to death!"
"Just do it if you can!"
"Tch, damn you—"
"George, stop...!" Nami tried to stop George, who seemed to be getting worked up because Ethan had responded so well to her challenge.
Nami grabbed George's hand and held it back. She knew that George could freeze Ethan to death with his powers. George turned to Nami, who was staring at him with eyes that seemed to be pleading with him to stop. Seeing Nami's innocent face touched George, his heart pounding. He didn't know why he suddenly felt so weak.
"W-what are you doing? Let go of my hand!" He said, suddenly agitated and embarrassed.
"I won't let go until you promise not to use your powers to attack Ethan!" The more she asked him to stop, the more she insisted on holding George's hand. Even though she hadn't used her powers at all, George could feel her immense strength.
"What the hell are you doing? Why should I listen to your words? Besides, what crazy woman is as strong as you? Hurry up and let go of your hand...!" George cursed in annoyance even though his red face showed that he was very nervous and embarrassed at the moment.
Seeing the two of them arguing like lovers made everyone think the fight wouldn't happen. But for Jacob, who had been watching Nami the entire time, his thoughts were filled only with the desire to retaliate and fight.
Jacob walked away nonchalantly, passing by Nami, George, Ethan, Viviene, and Dayana. He didn't want to get involved in a childish argument, as his only desire was to be the strongest.
But as he walked, all eyes were immediately on him. His charisma was so strong that people naturally followed him. Unlike those who respected and admired him, George didn't think so at all.
Instead, he viewed Prince Jacob as his natural enemy, someone he desperately wanted to defeat. Although he knew Nami's strength, he never considered conquering her the way men usually do.
Seeing Prince Jacob pass by, Nami immediately released George's hand from her grip. Nami's unease piqued George's curiosity.
"What's wrong? Why did you suddenly let go of my hand?" He blurted out, suddenly protesting after he had previously urged her to let go.
"Weren't you the one who asked to be let go?"
"You suddenly let go of my hand after him!"
"You mean Prince Jacob?"
"Who cares if he's a prince or not? You still—"
"But I care!" Nami said firmly. To her, the status of a high-ranking noble like Jacob was extremely high, considering that the royal family's ancestors were descendants of Hades, the god of the underworld who was known for his strength and power.
"I care too!" Viviene blurted out. She was one of those who desired a special closeness with members of the royal family.
"Yes, Icare too!" Dayana said, joining Viviene.
Seeing the two girls agree with Nami, the others followed suit, making George feel pressured. He was annoyed because it seemed like he was the only one who hated Jacob here.
"Damn you all!" He said angrily. Seeing his reaction, Ethan, who had been silent for a while, began to feel something funny.
"Hmmp..." Ethan tried to hold back his laughter as he saw George's foolish face. Hearing Ethan's muffled voice made George and Nami immediately turn their heads toward him.
"Hey, are you laughing?" George asked irritably after realizing Ethan was trying to laugh at him. But instead of being intimidated, Ethan just wanted to laugh even more.
"Tsk, you look like an idiot!" Ethan joked. Everyone who heard him was shocked, unable to believe he had the nerve to say that to George, who was known as a strong and dangerous student, given his father's reputation as a wealthy and influential politician not only in Evangelia, but throughout the world.
Seeing Ethan's expression change from usual made Nami happy. Since they first met Ethan, he had seemed reserved and cynical, as if he lived inside his own mind. But something she hadn't expected happened: Ethan smiled, and it was a very sweet smile.
"Hahaha..." Nami laughed, following Ethan after observing George's confused face.
"Nami?" Viviene and Dayana looked at her in confusion. But her laugh was so sincere and beautiful that anyone who saw it almost couldn't blink.
"She's so beautiful."
