Chapter 34 Obsession
Nami fell silent after hearing Lea's words, which clearly showed her anger over what had happened. Lea seemed to want to blame her for what had happened, and that confused her.
"Lea, I-"
"You shouldn't say anything else! Come on, Syd, let's go back to our room!" Lea said, grabbing Sydney's still-frightened hand and leading her back to her room.
"Tch, what's wrong with her? Scared by a little fight like this? Are they sure they want to become Yeagers?" George's quip broke the tension, even though the fight had ended 17 minutes ago.
George walked over to Nami, who remained rooted to the spot, guiltily, while everyone else continued to stare at him, curious about his identity.
"Why do you look so anxious? Come on, relax, it's just a minor damage, haha..."
"Don't bother me. I don't want to talk!" Nami felt even more uneasy after George told her it was just a minor damage, while everything was already smashed and the walls were cracked.
She decided to leave because staying here would only make her an interesting spectacle for everyone present. But seeing her leave made George unable to let her go. George grabbed her hand and held it tightly.
Nami felt her hand grow so cold it was starting to freeze. She tried to pull her hand away from George's grasp, but their hands seemed to be fused together.
"Let me go, what are you doing?"
"Just try to let go if you can! I know what you're worried about. You're afraid of having to pay for compensation and repairs to this place, aren't you? I know you've been living in Professor Levi Sanders's Laboratory since you were kicked out of the orphanage!"
"You're wrong, I wasn't kicked out! I left the orphanage!"
"Oh really? Haha... I thought they kicked you out because you were too old to stay at the orphanage. So, out of shame, you decided to leave, is that it?"
"That's none of your business! Let go of my hand!"
"Just try it! Didn't you manage to fend off all of Prince Jacob's attacks earlier? Surely you can do something as easy as this without any effort, right?"
"Cold—" She muttered. The cold was starting to make her feel pain. She tried to pull her nearly frozen hand away, but she realized that if she pulled it away forcefully in this condition, it could be severed.
Mariah, who witnessed what George did to Nami, felt extremely jealous and angry. She didn't know what George was really thinking. George had long known about her feelings, and he had always shown signs that he shared them. But since he met Nami, those signals seemed to have disappeared, and George began to ignore her.
"George, let her go!" Mariah said. Although it seemed like she was trying to help Nami get George to let her go, it was actually a response to her jealousy.
"Leave me alone, Mary!" George said, shooting Mariah a vicious glare that made her immediately freeze in fear.
Mariah knew that George was just like his father, they were very dangerous people. But all this time, she thought they were in the same group. That's why when George acted cynically towards her, she felt they were different.
Mariah's hands were clenched into fists and trembling, holding back the anger she desperately wanted to unleash. But knowing she couldn't face George's coldness, she decided to leave, carrying all her pent-up anger and jealousy with her.
"Mary, where are you going?" Bella grabbed her hand, trying to stop her from leaving. Meanwhile, Colin and Morgan were already standing in front of her.
"You want me to talk to George?" Colin asked. He hated it when George ignored Mariah like this.
"Even if you talk to him, he won't care. Damn, I don't know what he really sees in that woman? Why is he so obsessed with her?"
"It seems obvious, because she's very strong. George met her when his parents left him at the Everdeen Orphanage for several years. So, you could say George knew her before we did." Morgan said. Mariah was stunned, and this fact made her even more upset. George and Nami had lived at the same orphanage. This meant that George's obsession with Nami had probably been going on for a very long time.
Mariah pulled her hand from Bella's grasp. She walked away, her irritation evident in her steps.
"Mary, wait—"
"Come on, Bella, leave her alone! She's just jealous and that's understandable since George was the first man to sleep with her. That jerk George, it seems like he's trying to make Nami his next target. What a playboy, hahaha..."
Colin and Morgan burst out laughing, finding it hilarious, while Bella thought all men were stupid and insensitive.
"Men are idiots!"
"Hey, who are you calling idiots?"
"Of course it's you two, who else?"
"Wow, that's so rude, huh? Hahaha..."
"You idiots, I'm leaving!" Bella said as she left, leaving Colin and Morgan still laughing at their stupid joke.
"Hey, Bella, where are you going? Why are you in such a hurry?"
"None of your business. You idiots!"
