Chapter 780 No News

Margaret spoke in a gentle tone, but Juniper cut her off before she could finish.

"Samuel told you I was hospitalized last night, didn't he?" Juniper asked flatly.

Margaret nodded.

Juniper's face showed no emotion at all, as if she were talking about something that had nothing to do with her.

"Last night I ran into some thugs in an alley. The person who saved me was probably Alden, but he left before I woke up."

Listening to Juniper's calm account, Margaret couldn't hide her surprise. "Alden?"

"Did you try to call him?" Margaret asked.

Juniper shook her head and sighed. "No, he changed his number a long time ago. Samuel came to the hospital this morning."

Juniper's composure made Margaret realize something — the calmer a person acts after going through something scary, the more worried you should be.

Margaret frowned and gently tried to clear things up. "I know there's been a misunderstanding between you two. Samuel didn't know either — someone went to the break room and answered your call, then deleted the call log."

That was the truth. Samuel really had no idea any of this had happened.

But Samuel knew Juniper well enough to know that no matter how he tried to explain, it wouldn't change anything.

"Is that so?"

Juniper gave a cold, careless laugh. She didn't believe Samuel's story.

Margaret didn't want things between them to get any worse, especially since the baby would be arriving soon.

"I mean it — Samuel really didn't lie to you." Margaret pressed on quickly. "If you don't believe me, you can go ask the crew when you get out. One of the staff saw Rainey with their own eyes..."

"Okay, let's drop this topic."

Juniper cut her off again, rubbing her temple. "Right now I just want the baby to be okay. I don't want to deal with anything else."

Seeing Juniper's impatience, Margaret let it go.

After a moment of silence, Juniper felt the awkward tension in the room and spoke up on her own.

"Once I'm out of the hospital, I'll think about where things stand with Samuel. Maybe we're just not right for each other."

Juniper said it calmly, keeping her expression deliberately relaxed.

Hearing that Juniper was thinking about breaking up, Margaret felt a quiet wave of worry.

Juniper was about to become a mother. If she left Samuel now, how would she raise the baby on her own?

Thinking about the practical reality, Margaret took Juniper's hand and spoke earnestly. "Every couple has their problems — that's normal. But there's no need to take it this far. Samuel really does care about you."

Juniper remained completely unmoved.

Every word Rainey had said on the phone was still crystal clear in her mind.

And the fact that Rainey had spoken with such confidence told Juniper that she and Samuel were far more tangled up than he let on.

Her emotions churned inside her, but she didn't want to make a scene. Out of respect for Margaret's good intentions, she just said vaguely, "We'll see. I just want to focus on getting better for now."

Margaret knew Juniper could be stubborn, so she smiled gently and said, "Alright. Just don't overthink things, and keep the baby in mind."

The two of them talked in the hospital room until noon. Samuel never showed up the entire time.

Late that afternoon, Samuel wrapped up at the set and headed straight to the hospital.

But a nurse stopped him in the hallway.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Hall. Ms. Hayes said she doesn't want any visitors. She also asked me to let you know she's not planning to change rooms."

Hearing how firm Juniper was, Samuel knew the misunderstanding was still unresolved.

Even Margaret coming all the way here hadn't made a difference.

He took a slow breath to calm himself. Not wanting to upset Juniper further, he handed the nurse what he'd brought.

"These are some supplements I got for her. Could you please give them to her?"

With that, Samuel shook his head helplessly and walked away, his lonely figure disappearing around the corner of the hallway.

A short while later, a nurse came into Juniper's room carrying two boxes of supplements.

Juniper paused, then quickly figured out that Samuel had been there.

Before the nurse could say anything, Juniper spoke first. "Could you hold onto those for me? And if he comes again, please return them to him."

"Oh..." The nurse looked uncomfortable.

She didn't mind helping, but even as an outsider, she could see that things between Juniper and Samuel were at a real standstill.

Soon after, Margaret made it back to Starlight Entertainment.

She'd been worried about the company the whole way back and had checked Facebook a few times on the road. Thankfully, no bad news had come out about the company in the past few days.

She pulled up the company's official page and smiled with satisfaction.

Kevin had been keeping up with the weekly promotional posts without fail — even on weekends, he'd been helping clients get their content out.

Looks like Kevin had things under control. That put half of her worries to rest.

When she walked into the office, the staff all looked sharp and focused. Nobody had been slacking off while she was away.

Margaret greeted a few employees, then headed to the trainees' practice room.

"Boss!"

The trainees all stopped what they were doing when they saw her.

"Where have you been all this time?"

They crowded around her, and at Margaret's request, they performed a routine for her.

"Not bad — you've improved since last time."

Margaret nodded. Kevin had clearly been doing a solid job.

"Mr. Harris came by to check on us a lot while you were gone. He'd sit and talk with us too," one of the trainees said.

The others chimed in with praise for Kevin — but then their expressions shifted.

"Though we haven't seen him around lately. He's probably just busy."

Margaret's eyes narrowed slightly. He hadn't been in for a few days?

She went back to her office and pulled up the employee attendance records.

Sure enough, Kevin hadn't come in for two days.

That caught her attention right away. She'd left him in charge, and he'd been handling things well — so why had he suddenly gone AWOL?

Margaret frowned and picked up her phone to call him.

It rang for a long time. No answer.

"Hello, the person you are calling is currently unavailable..."

After the voicemail message ended, the automated reply kicked in.

Margaret tried again. And again. Still nothing.

Out of options, she sent him a string of texts.

"Kevin, if you don't call me back, I'm docking your entire paycheck!"

"Still ignoring me? Fine — no year-end bonus either!"

Message after message went out, and every single one disappeared into silence.

Margaret's frown deepened. Had something actually happened to Kevin?

"If you don't respond, I'm pairing Electra with another actor for a PR romance story tomorrow."

Electra was Kevin's one weak spot. But even that message got no reply.

Margaret stared at her phone. She'd called him at least ten times. Nothing.

She sat there, brow furrowed.

She went to find Electra. Kevin had been chasing after her for a while now, and knowing him, he would've told her where he was going.

"Has Kevin been in touch with you lately?"

Margaret asked her straight out. Electra checked her phone and shook her head.

"He told me he was going out to eat two days ago. I haven't heard from him since."

He hadn't even replied to Electra?
