Chapter 70 - Snow
Reed’s pov.
It was snowing.
“Say can I ask you a question?” she asked still looking out the window.
“What comes of snow when its melt?” I smirked at the obvious question.
“Water obviously.”
“Bzzt.” she chuckled. “Spring comes dummy.”
“Spring is my favorite season.” She whispered, her voice like soft chime of wind.
She was my spring. My favorite season. I was snow. I’d frozen somewhere along the line in darkness, in my dark cage and she was a fresh bright spring.
I fell in love like it was a logical necessity.
“Don’t reject me. I am glad I met you. Falling in love with you bought me happiness.” I wept.
For the first time in my life, I felt somehow forgiven- somehow saved. Like a river of snow melted by the breath of spring. The tears wouldn’t stop flowing.
God, please let her meet someone else who really can make her happy. I am willing to pay anything.
I am willing to be frozen in snow from now until I die…
“I see you’re finally awake.” I heard the voice of the man and I don’t have to open my eyes to see who’s voice it belonged to. I opened my eyes and blinked several times.
My throat burns. My chest hurts, I couldn’t feel my hands and legs, my jaw hurt. Dammit, my whole body hurts. It’s like was pummeled by the train or truck.
I turned my head slowly and my eyes widened as soon as I saw Ravenna. Anger took over my body as our eyes meet and I lunged on her without even thinking. She raised her eye brows in boring manner and snapped her fingers.
“Prohibere!”
I was stopped mid-tracks. she looked past me. I tried to wriggle from the power of her magic.
“Don’t bother. The force you use will only transferred back to you. this is the binding spell. And currently you are bonded with the ground.” she said as a matter of factly. I don’t know why but she was more talkative for no reason.
“Oh! you don’t need to be that harsh with my son. He was just startled.” I heard his voice again from the back and now I know where she was looking at.
“Unstrained him.” he ordered and Ravenna snapped her fingers again and the heavy weight binding me to the ground, it lifted off like smoke in air.
I heard him walking towards me, my whole-body tenses as I heard his footsteps. “Now, be a good boy and sit. Will you?” he said calmly and patted my head, still standing behind me.
My heart stopped the moment he touched me. he patted and ruffled my hair. I…
Hundred of emotions hit me like wreck, anger, regret, affection, I could feel it surging from my heart, the feeling I wouldn’t believe I was capable of producing.
I slapped his hand back. “Don’t touch me.” I seethed in anger. I saw him flicnching by my tone but he tried his best not to show on his face.
“All this son and father is going to make me puke.” Ravenna commented while sipping her tea.
Andrew joined her and sit beside her. although I was not restrained anymore but for some reason, I didn’t move a single inch. Not because I was scared from them, I just couldn’t.
Now that I cleared my mind, I looked around to see where I was. it was a house. A small one. the walls were painted white and sunlight was streaming into the room through the window.
The house was complete opposite to the theme of the scene. On the top of that I couldn’t believe the two of them living in the house like that.
Andrew poured tea in two cups and finally gazes at me. I was still on my knees on the ground. He patted at the chair beside him, gesturing me to come join them. As if over my dead body.
After he was sure I won’t comply to his wishes, he sighed and stood on his place before coming towards me with the cup of tea in his hand.
“Here. It will help you heal faster.” He said and stretched his hand out towards me. I just stared at his stupid face. the face of the rogue king Michael. Behind it was the man who killed my mother.
Who I hated the most in this world. For whom I even made the deal with devil itself and sold my soul.
“Don’t trust me? I had thousand chances to kill you while you were asleep.” He commented and put the cup back on the chair.
“Why?” this was all I could mustered. My throat was burning and my guts were like they were crushed from inside. I had taken a good beating from him.
“Why what?” he interjected. I knew he knew what I was asking, but he was playing clueless.
“Why are you here? When I sent you to hell?” I finally said and I could feel the anger coming back as I said the last word.
He started laughing, his voice was annoying for some reason, maybe because it was of Michael’s.
“Who said I was in hell?” he said and raised his one eyebrow. Now I was out of words. I tried to speak but coughed hard. My throat was burning for some reason.
“It’s the poison.” He again picked the cup and passed it to me. “Drink it.” he ordered and for some reason I just silently complied.
The rich aroma of the tea somehow soothes my throat and before long the burning was gone. I feel the surge of energy flowing through my body as I regain my power.
“Feeling better?” he asked and eyes me. I didn’t speak.
“Now we have very much to catch up.” he said and I finally stood up from my pathetic position.
