Chapter 64 – Blood and War

I quickly opened the gate, it was the final obstacle in between me and the long-awaited freedom I was seeking. How many days it has been? One door and I will soon in the arms of my mate. Loving and comforting as much as the thought was the reality was equally cruel.

My wolf whimpered, and I knew she still wanted him and his wolf. They were fated mates after all.

In the distance, I could hear the collective growls of wolves. I was quick to open the door. My blood turned cold seeing the horrific sight in front of my eyes. The blood was spilled on the ground. Countless dead bodies were lying on the ground, cold, lifeless.

I gulped loudly as I see a rogue wolf scurried through the woods toward the direction of the woods, a trail of blood following him. He stopped immediately; I know he must have sensed me.

He turned towards me slowly like it was painful for him to move and I know by the first look he was gravely injured. He bare his canines at me as soon as our eyes meet. Come on.

He let out a final howl as if a declaration of death. My eyes widened as he ran towards me to attack on me. Before he could even come ten feet closer to me, he was already pinned down by a larger and much mystic wolf.

The larger one take him down in one move and with the howl and he finally attacked his neck. The rogue died, helplessly, suffering till his last breath. I saw the life vanishing from his eyes and soon he followed the same fate as of the other countless dead wolves lying alongside him.

I know the wolf instantly as soon our eye meet. He was Asher. I am sure of it. Maybe it was because of the pack bond or the mystic aura he was radiating, I know he was Asher for sure.

“Asher…” as soon as I said the word, he growled a menacing howl and walked towards me and leaped on me before licking my face and hands. I started laughing as it tickles.

He licked my wounds and they instantly healed. Yes, the saliva of wolves have healing effects. He bowed instantly and lowered his head, ready for my command.

“Shift.” I commanded and he nodded before rushing to the basement I just came from. After a long awful ten minutes he was back in front of me.

I was quick to notice he was wearing exact same clothes of the guards dead inside. I couldn’t help but smile. He adjusted his pants and once again bowed in front of me.

“Our Luna is safe and sound.” He declared more to himself and I know he was talking to his pack through the pack bond.

“Luna.” he said.

“Asher.” I smiled back. “it’s not good manners to take something without permission.” I said and couldn’t grin. I grinned for the forest time in last three days and he smiled too, rubbing the back of his neck in embarrassment.

“I am sure they don’t mind.” He said and winked before started walking towards me. he examined my wounds and after he was reassured that I was fine he finally turned towards to forest.

He whistled and in the next second ten wolves were in front of us.

“They are the strongest warriors of our pack and their loyalty is out of bounds.” He said with that they all bowed in front of me. I bowed slightly in return and moved my attention back to Asher.

“Where’s Reed?” I asked. It was the first thing I wanna know. It was the only thing I want to know at this point.

He tried to look calm but despite his best efforts he couldn’t hide the worry. He rubbed his neck awkwardly and I know he was hiding something. Don’t tell me!

“Answer my damn question Asher.” I was surprised at how loud my voice was. I was scared. I don’t know there was this deep feeling of unknown fear in my stomach. On the top of that, Asher’s behaviour was not helping it either.

“He’s…” He looked away. “He’s not responding.” he said and hung his head down in shame.

My mouth was wide open. I don’t know how to react to what he just said.

“What do you mean he is not responding?” I asked as my worst fear was slowly turning to reality.

“I don’t know. One moment he was leading us. I know for sure he already found you as before he was disappeared, he gave me your location.” He said and I could tell he was not lying either.

“One moment he was there and in another he was suddenly cut off.” He said and I could sense the fear and deadness in his voice.

I closed my eyes. what the hell is happening? I mean, what kind of sick game Ravenna was puling here? I gritted my teeth.

“And? Who was with him?” I asked after he didn’t speak.

“He got out of our sight. I mean I was with him but was soon surrounded by enemies, it was like they were already prepared for that.” he said. None of said anything after that.

“I will find him. I know for sure he is somewhere here only.” I said and looked straight in the woods. I know for sure he was here, closer than I could think of. But before that I have to do something important. Something only, I could do as an alpha now in absence of Reed.

“What is the status of the current war?” I asked. Asher looked reluctant for a second before finally speaking.

We are losing currently. Without the alpha, our pack is falling apart. Enemy forces are breaking through. The witches are powerful and clearly exceed our expectations.” He said and once again hung his head low in the ground as if it was shameful for him to even talk.

“And...?” I raised my head, folding my hands, waiting for him to complete.

“The rogues were easy to deal with but they are nowhere around what we had on papers. They are vast in numbers. We have faced the far severe casualty than we expected.” He said and started rubbing his head.

As soon as he completed his sentence, the wolves surrounding us started howling painfully as if giving tribute to the fallen comrades who died alongside them in this war. For what? For me? to rescue the pathetic excuse of alpha I have been?

Blood seethed inside me, as I barely contained my rage in my body. I don’t know what am I gonna do if I saw Ravenna or Michael. I want blood.

My thoughts were instantly cut short by the arrival of the enemies. I scrunched my nose as I was hit by the mixed smell of iron and blood.

Around thrice of our number and as big as the normal wolf, we were soon surrounded by the rogues, baring their canines and growling. None of them trying to attack us. They were only baring their teeth, looking for something.

Asher transformed back into his majestic wolf form and take on the lead, standing in front of the enemies. “We will finish them while you look for alpha.” He said through the mind link.

I cracked my neck and stood tall on the ground as if I didn’t listen to the single word he just said. I slowly walked in front of them and stand straight before clearing my throat and looking straight in the eyes of enemies.

“Kneel.” I ordered in my alpha voice.
