Chapter 25
l was exhausted by the time l got to my place and l just wanted to sleep but luck wasn't on my side today seeing as l found Ali in the living room. She looked deep in thought like she always did these days and l just mumbled a hi but before l completely passed she stopped me. "What did your parents look like, did your mom have red hair as well, who do you look like your mom or your dad. She asked me and l saw an unwanted tear slip from her eyes and my heart broke for her.
There are some truths that were better off left as secrets because they had a way of crushing your soul. "Ali don't do this" l said softly to her. Ali doesn't know a single thing about pain and heartbreak due to her father being protective and shielding her away but we were all destined to feel pain one way or the other.
'Let's do it "Ali as stuck in and I stared at her. l had an idea about what she was talking about but I needed to hear it from her. "What do you mean "I asked her so that we both have an understanding of what she was asking of me because there was no going back. This truth is to be tough to handle and I'm afraid it will tear Ali apart. That's because of spoilt nature and I don't think she'll be able to share have parents or anything with anybody so this shit wasn't going to do her any good.
"Let's take the DNA test between you and my parents, l just can't tell the what ifs anymore. We all deserve to know "
"are you sure you wanna know "I asked her sitting on the couch next to her . "Not knowing is worse, every single day I come up with the reason why you could possibly look like my parents well I don't and it's tearing me a part, I can't even sleep at night it's all I think about so it has to stop". I get where she's coming from because I have been there, I have lived through the nightmare and now it is her cross to bear.
"Okay then I am does that mean you're going to talk to your parents "I asked her because from the way I see things, her parents know but they just afraid to say it out loud. I think they can see that it might hurt her and that the truth won't do her any good but not knowing isn't doing her any good as well. She's always in thought these days, she hardly goes out and she bunks classes.
"no but I just wanted to talk to you first before l talk to them " I'm not sure if her father will agree because the man just seems to hate me or I don't know. But he avoided me like a plague in these two weeks and I'm not sure if he would want the truth to come out. Ali's mother is a completely different matter though, I am yearning to see the look on her face when she discovers that she really is my mother. I know for now she only suspects it like Ali does but soon she will find out the truth and I might get to meet my brother.
"Okay I'll book an appointment at the hospital and then we can take it from the "l try reassuring her but she just looks sad and depressed and sad. If she already feels like this before the truth then l wonder what she will feel like when she finds out the truth. I don't even know why we have to go and confirm because the truth is looking right at us in the face. I look like Alexander Parker and nobody can doubt that he is my father. If Ali were to see a picture of my mom then she would cry because she really is my mother's daughter.
"You know the truth don't don't you" she looked at me in a completely strange manner but I refuse to answer her ,this is a truth that she has to find out for herself with the proof right in front of her because that is a matter that will haunt her for life. This is about her whole identity and l just hope that when she gets the answers she seeks she'll be able to face them because l know how difficult it is to digest this.
"Ali lets just wait for the test instead of fighting for something we aren't even sure of" l told her. If there's something l've gotten to know about Ali in the past few days then it's her need to start a fight. She intentionally provokes you so that you react and l really didn't want to get into that with her today.
