Chapter 55

He laughed softly before turning towards the door. "I'll be back soon with good news. Get ready, Lana."

When he left the room, I looked back up at the ceiling, my tears flowing again without me being able to stop them.

I don't know if I made the right decision, but one thing is for sure, I will never forgive Zask.

A few days had passed since the curettage. My body was recovering, but my heart felt like a battlefield. The emotional scars left by the incident burned more and more every time I saw Zask.

Our relationship, if it could be called a relationship, was now like a rope that was about to break. I could no longer look at him without feeling deep anger and hatred. I knew that Zask was the reason I lost my fetus, and I would never forgive him.

Actually, there was no serious relationship between the two of us from the start, just a bond of feelings because we had slept together without having a child together, but in fact all of that fell apart after what had just happened.

I will never be deceived again, I don't want to lose my child a second time, so if I don't want to lose my child again I must avoid being touched by that man again.

Today, I sat in a room that now felt more like a prison than a sanctuary. The food he sent for me is still intact on the table, not touched in the slightest. I knew he was trying to show his concern, but I couldn't accept that.

'That's sickening, I don't need that kind of attention anyway who would want to be cared for by a man like that? I don't even want to see his face at all.' I muttered in annoyance.

A knock on the door broke the silence. I knew who it was without even looking. And just as I expected, Zask walked in without waiting for my permission.

"Lana," he said in his usual stern tone.

I didn't answer, just turned my face the other way. I didn't want to see his face so badly that even hearing his voice felt like hearing something sickening.

He approached, standing in front of the table with his arms crossed. "I've noticed that you're getting away from me," he said.

I shrugged wordlessly. Who cares? I didn't even want to respond to him at all. He should have been grateful that I responded like that after what he'd done to me so far.

"Lana, you can't go on like this," he continued, his voice colder. "Losing a foetus is sad, but you have to stop dwelling on it. If you think rationally, you'll realise that this isn't the end of the world."

What? Think rationally? After what I went through? I think what he said was very, very irrational and he should have realised that it was a very inappropriate thing for her to say in front of me.

His words were like nails pounding into my chest. I turned to look at him, my eyes blazing with anger. "Rational?" I exclaimed in a high tone. "You want me to think rationally? You think losing a child is just a small thing that can be forgotten?"

He looked at me emotionlessly, as if I was just a child throwing a tantrum. Did she think it was a funny thing? To me this was a ridiculous joke, she was making it seem like a trivial thing when the feelings of those I was feeling were really exploding like an erupting volcano.

"Lana, it's not something that can't be fixed," he said flatly. "We can try again. You can get pregnant again. You just need to see this as an opportunity to try something new."

I froze, unable to believe what he had just said. "You really are heartless," I whispered, but my voice began to tremble with anger. "To you, having children is just about producing a successor. No love, no emotion. Just politics, right?"

Zask remained silent, and that made me even angrier.

"You don't even care that I'm the one who has to endure all this pain!" I cried, tears starting to run down my cheeks. "To you, I'm just a tool. Just a vessel for your children!"

He didn't argue, didn't say anything in his defence. Instead, he stood calmly, letting my words hit him.

"Why didn't you say anything?" I asked, my voice breaking. "Was I wrong? Did I overreact? Or do you really not care?"

He took a deep breath, his eyes remaining flat. "Lana, you're too naive," he said finally. "I know you think of that foetus as something precious, but you have to see the bigger picture. Losing that foetus is not the end of the world."

I paused, feeling his words like a knife plunging deeper into my heart.

"For you, maybe," I retorted softly, my voice full of hatred. "But to me, it was everything."

He shook his head softly, then started walking towards the door. I thought he would just leave, but he stopped in the doorway and turned to me.

"Prepare yourself, Lana," he said in a cold tone. "I will use you again to produce the next successor. We cannot delay too long."

My eyes widened, and I felt my chest tighten.

He strode away without waiting for my reply, leaving me still frozen in my place.

I stared at the tightly closed door, my breath coming in short gasps. His words kept repeating in my head, making the pre-existing hatred fester even more.

"Zask..." I whispered softly, my voice filled with anger.

I clenched my fists, trying to drown out the pain and anger welling up inside me. But I knew this wasn't something I could just ignore.

"He'll pay," I muttered, determination beginning to grow in my heart. "He'll regret ever playing me like this."
