Chapter 54

One of the aliens inserted a sedative through my IV, and slowly my consciousness began to fade.

I tried to raise my hand, trying to say something, but my words didn't come out. My eyes began to feel heavy, and slowly my vision darkened.

In the last moment before I lost consciousness, I saw Zask standing beside me, his face remained cold but his eyes... there was something there that I couldn't decipher.

"Ugh, I feel so dizzy..." I said softly feeling the dizziness in my head.

I woke up with a heavy head and slightly blurred vision. The stabbing pain in my lower abdomen soon pulled me fully awake. I tried to lift my body, but the pain made me grimace.

Slowly, I examined my surroundings. This room was different from the room I was in before. The walls were off-white with dim light from the fluorescent lights mounted on the ceiling. I quickly realised that this was a medical room.

A chill ran down my spine as a thought crossed my mind. My hand trembled as it touched my stomach. It felt flatter than before.

"No..." I whispered, tears starting to run down my cheeks.

I touched my stomach repeatedly, trying to confirm that it wasn't real. But there was no pulse, no tiny movement that had always reminded me that I was carrying life inside.

"No! It can't be!" I began to cry, the pain in my heart far greater than the pain in my body.

My screams echoed in the empty room. I felt like everything I had had been taken away from me. That foetus was a part of me, the only thing that made me feel meaningful in the midst of all this suffering. And now, everything was gone.

I clenched my fists shakily, anger beginning to replace my sadness.

"Zask..." I muttered, my voice filled with hatred. "This is all your fault. You let this happen. You... you took my baby away from me. Fighting for my wellbeing found me agreeing to the curettage. His friend thought of his own interests without thinking of my feelings. I will repay you."

I felt a burning heat in my chest. This pain will never be forgotten, and I will never forgive him. He decided to take something most precious from me, and now I only have one goal.

Revenge.

I clenched my fists on the blanket covering my body, determined to make Zask feel the same pain. I no longer cared about anything he said. All his tenderness, care, and sweet promises were just a front.

As my mind continued to fill with hatred, the door to the room opened.

Zerg's tall figure stood there with the infectious smile he always carried, but this time there was something different in his eyes, like he knew that I was already on the brink of destruction.

"You're finally awake," he said casually, stepping inside with his hands tucked in his pockets. "How are you feeling, Lana?"

Zask shouldn't be so casual about asking something like that. Even though he had a sad and touching look on his face, I didn't think it matched the sadness I was feeling right now. What I'm feeling must not be equal to what he's feeling because the pain of a mother losing her baby must be far more painful than anything else.

I glared at him, restraining myself from exploding. But my emotions were too great to control. "I don't need any pleasantries from you, Zerg," I said coldly. "I only need one thing from you right now."

He raised an eyebrow, looking interested. "And what is that, if I may know?"

I looked at him with determined eyes. "Bring me that Bitfrox crystal as soon as you can. I want this done. I don't want to beat around the bush and get everything done neatly and I want to see Zask without leaving anything behind."

Her smile widened, like she had been waiting for those words to come out of my mouth. "That's the Lana I know," she said, moving closer to where I lay. "I've waited so long for a moment like this. Where has the Lana I've been looking for been?"

I didn't take my eyes off her. "I want Zask to pay for what he did. I want him to feel the same pain I feel now."

Zerg seemed very satisfied with my words and he looked very excited. I actually didn't like that expression because I was sure that this man in front of me had no genuine feelings and was cooperating only for something that benefited him but at least I could use him as a way for me to solve my problem here.

Zerg chuckled, his eyes shining with something almost resembling satisfaction. "You really impressed me, Lana. I knew you had this potential from the start. But I must remind you, we must remain patient. All of this takes time."

"Patience?" I growled, my voice full of anger. "I've had enough patience, Zerg. I don't care about your time anymore. If you're really serious about this plan, then prove it to me. Bring me the crystal as soon as possible."

He stared at me for a while, as if considering my words. Finally, he nodded.

"Very well," he said quietly but firmly. "I'll make sure the process is expedited. My team is close to finding the crystal, and I'll do whatever it takes to get it to Earth as quickly as possible. But remember, Lana, when the time comes, you must be ready to do your part."

I didn't answer. I just looked at him coldly, showing that I wasn't going to back down.

He smiled again, this time softer than usual. "You really have changed, Lana. And I couldn't be more proud."

I didn't care about his praise. To me, Zerg was just a tool to achieve my goal.

"Go now," I said shortly, averting my gaze from him.

He laughed softly before turning towards the door. "I'll be back soon with good news. Get ready, Lana."

When he left the room, I looked back up at the ceiling, my tears flowing again without me being able to stop them.

I didn't know if I'd made the right decision, but one thing was for sure, I would never forgive Zask.
