Chapter 49

I walked slowly through the western garden of Zask's headquarters. The area was much larger than I had imagined, with strange plants that glowed under artificial light. Although it looked calm, there was something off in the air. I didn't know if it was just me or an actual bad feeling.

I held Zask's message tightly, trying to locate him. "Zask?" I called softly, hoping he was around. However, there was no answer.

I walked further into the garden, my eyes searching for him. "Zask, where are you? Are you there? Zask?" I asked again, this time in a slightly louder tone. Still no answer.

An uneasy feeling began to creep into my heart. Why would he ask me to come here if he wasn't there himself? Was this just a misunderstanding? Or was there something else going on?

Actually there was a suspicion in my heart about this, but I kept thinking positively because it could be that Zask needed to discuss something with me, I didn't want to create conflict with Zask for the time being so I decided to throw away my negative thoughts.

I continued walking, until my gaze fell on a small staircase at the end of the garden. The stairs seemed to lead to the lower part of the garden, perhaps to a more secluded place. I hesitated for a moment, but curiosity drove me to take a step in that direction.

My steps slowly descended the stairs, but suddenly I felt a hard push from behind.

'Oh my!'

I muttered in shock, I tried to see who it was that pushed me, but I couldn't find anything. One thing I realised at that moment was that my foetus was in danger. If I were to fall then there would definitely be something bad happening to my foetus.

"Aahhh!" I screamed in panic, my body lost its balance and fell down. A sharp pain instantly travelled through my body as I hit the last step. I felt something strange in my stomach, a pain so painful that it made me choke with fear.

"No... no, please no!" I sobbed, my hand reflexively holding my aching stomach.

I was really scared, the worry and fear travelling through my body. I cried, I really didn't want my innocent baby to experience anything bad. I had just experienced motherhood, and there was already a big problem facing my foetus.

I lay there, the pain making my body tremble. I don't know who pushed me, but right now there's only one thing on my mind: my baby. Was my baby okay? Was I going to lose my baby?

"Help!" I shouted at the top of my lungs, hoping that someone would hear me. "Please someone help me! I can't move, my stomach hurts!"

I continued to sob, my tears explaining the pain I felt in my stomach. But actually the crying was not just because of the pain, but the fear of losing my foetus.

Moments later, I heard footsteps approaching quickly. Several aliens wearing guard uniforms came over to me. They seemed surprised at my state, and one of them immediately bent down to examine my condition.

"Take me to the medical room... please," I pleaded weakly, tears already rolling down my cheeks.

They immediately carried me, and the pain in my stomach grew more pronounced with every movement. I couldn't stop crying, my mind filled with the fear of losing this foetus. Although I had thought about giving up on this pregnancy, I knew that I couldn't lose this baby now. My baby was a part of me, and I couldn't afford to lose my baby.

After a few minutes that felt like an eternity, I finally arrived at the medical room. The alien medical experts moved quickly, fitting tools to my body and checking my condition attentively. I felt dizzy, weak, and extremely frightened.

"This baby has to survive... she has to survive," I muttered softly, almost as a prayer.

Shortly after, the sound of heavy footsteps could be heard from outside the room. I turned my head weakly, and in the doorway stood Zask. His face looked tense and anxious, his eyes immediately fixed on me.

"Lana!" he exclaimed, walking quickly towards me. He looked so worried, more than I'd ever seen him before.

I couldn't say anything, my tears continuing to flow as I tried to hold back the pain that was still radiating in my stomach. Zask held my hand tightly, looking at me with worried eyes.

"Who did this to you?" he asked in a low tone, but I could feel the anger behind his words.

I just shook my head weakly, too tired to answer. Right now, the only thing I'm thinking about is this baby's condition. This baby must live, even though it goes against what I should do but I still love this baby so much.

Zask stood up, his face filled with tension as he stared at the alien health experts who were busy working. "Make sure she and the baby are okay," he ordered in a stern tone.

The aliens nodded quickly and continued to work without saying anything. I saw Zask walk out of the infirmary, but I knew he wouldn't go far.

Some time later, one of the aliens handling my condition came out of the room. I saw him approach Zask, his face looking tense and anxious.

Zask immediately approached him, the look in his eyes full of questions that demanded answers. "How is she? How is the foetus? Did something happen to the foetus?" he asked in a stern tone.

The alien looked hesitant, as if he was finding it difficult to say anything. I, who was still lying on the bed, could only stare at them fearfully, hoping that the news I was about to hear was not bad news.

The pain in my abdomen intensified, even though I knew the alien medical experts had administered a bleeding stopper and a local anaesthetic. My body felt heavy, and my eyes began to water from the unrelenting pain. I closed my eyes, trying to focus on long, slow breaths to calm myself down.
