Chapter 48
Several days have passed since my encounter with Zerg. The time that seemed to pass by was slow yet suffocating, leaving me lost in my own thoughts. The thought of the Bitfrox crystal continued to haunt me, but there was something else that began to occupy my attention, namely the foetus in my womb.
This was a serious matter for me because it involved my biological child. Maybe Zerg can take it easy to decide the fate of the child I'm carrying right now, but not me, who can't just take away my child's life. But unfortunately this child has a father that I hate.
I don't hate him completely, but I don't want to like him either. My feelings were annoying, too naive, too weak and lacking in conviction.
I sat on the edge of the bed, clutching my increasingly active stomach. The foetus was moving more frequently now, as if to tell me that it was really alive. Every time I felt its movements, there was a warm feeling that ran through my heart, but it was also accompanied by a sense of confusion that I found hard to explain.
"Why does it have to be like this?" I murmured softly, almost silently. "Why does it have to be him?"
I let out a long breath, trying to calm the anxiety that kept haunting me. If only this baby wasn't Zask's, I knew things would be a lot easier. I wouldn't have to feel torn between loving this child and hating his father. But reality didn't make it that easy.
"Oh!"
My hand traced my stomach which was slightly distended due to the presence of my growing fetus inside. I was so happy for my pregnancy but I was also sad for my pregnancy. A thing that gives two different meanings at the same time.
There was a part of me that regretted not making the decision earlier, when I could still abort the foetus without too much consideration. However, deep down, I knew that the decision would be very difficult for me to make. It was natural instinct that made me keep this baby. No matter how much I hated Zask, this foetus was a part of me. And I loved it, even though I knew it would only complicate things.
I touched my stomach slowly, feeling the pulse of life inside. My tears welled up, but I didn't let them fall. I had to stay strong, for myself and for this baby.
However, how can I be strong when every day I am faced with a dilemma like this? How can I choose between following the Zerg's plan and keeping the foetus that is the only thing that makes me feel alive?
I was deep in thought when a soft knock on the door broke my reverie. I looked up, feeling a little surprised. It wasn't usual for someone to knock on my door like this, especially since I had been alone in my room more often.
Cautiously, I walked towards the door and opened it. In front of the door, I found a tray of food, with a small piece of paper lying on it.
I frowned, confused. Zask usually came straight to bring me food, even if he was late. However, this time he just left the tray in front of the door. What on earth was going on?
I carried the tray into the room and placed it on the table. My trembling hand picked up the small paper, reading it carefully.
'Wait for me in the west garden of the headquarters. I want to talk to you.'
The message was so short and not much was written in it. It was just like that and I even tried to look for other pieces of words in case I missed reading it or didn't get to see it, but after I flipped through the paper I didn't find any message other than the one I read just now. That was indeed the only message I read, nothing else.
The message was simple, but it was enough to make me pause. Zask rarely wrote messages like this. Usually he would just say what he wanted, without the need to make me feel curious like now.
It's quite strange, you see from the man's attitude that is mysterious and unpredictable, I also can't assume too much about this and it could be him sending this message to me.
"What is it now?" I muttered, staring at the paper with furrowed brows.
I tried to find meaning behind the words, but found nothing but confusion. Why did Zask want to meet me in the park? And why didn't he come himself to tell me?
I stared at the food in front of me. Despite my growing curiosity, I knew I had to eat something first. My body needed energy, especially with the increasingly active foetus inside my womb.
"Ah I'm so hungry, plus there are alien babies that are in need of great nutrition inside. No wonder I keep feeling hungry but this is normal because I'm a pregnant woman," I monologued.
Slowly, I began to eat the food, even though my mind kept drifting to the message I had received. What exactly did Zask want to talk about? And why did he choose the park as the place?
As I ate, I couldn't stop thinking about the possibilities. Was it about the foetus? Or was it about something bigger, something involving this base or even the Zerg's plans?
After finishing my meal, I sat down for a moment to catch my breath and try to calm myself down. I knew that I had to be prepared for whatever might happen there. No matter what Zask wanted to talk about, I had to stay strong.
With somewhat hesitant steps, I got up from my seat and walked towards the door. The message was still ringing in my mind, making me feel increasingly anxious but also curious. I didn't know what was going to happen, but one thing was certain: I had to find the answer.
I then opened the door and stepped out of my room. I took another glance inside my room and then actually stepped out before I closed my bedroom door and walked towards the park to meet Zask.
